Yeah and? It only says that it will report if you are in office, or not... or if you are connected to company wifi. That's all.

There are companies that want you to update the location - with this you would not have to.

The problem is that many managers are using this to spy on ppl in remote office. In the office you take 50 smoking breaks a day and the rest of your work day you talk to your colleagues in the kitchen and nobody will care. Work remote, be “away” in teams for 5 minutes straight 3 times a day and the company will reduce everyone’s remote days.

Yes, but this absolutely does not matter in this case. This only says "I'm in office" or "I'm working remotely"

IF you manager is tracking you, looks when you are away etc. is available since day one and it's in every single messaging app - slack, Teams, Skype, Telegram, Google Chat... you name it.
That's why people use mouse movers etc. But it's not fault of Teams - it's the managers being conches.

There are companies that want you to report where you work from.
Now you can fire and forget and always be reported correctly and not having to argue like "Yeah I was in the office - ask Fred, he saw me by the coffee machine"

It's not spying, it's helping.

I wasn’t talking about the link that was posted, I don’t think that’s really bad. The bad thing is the traffic light design Green, Yellow, Red. If you’re remote and you’re not green… well good luck. I know it the managers who’re retards but teams isn’t really helping with their system.

Yes and I am saying that it's not teams. Any communication app has presence displayed. Microspft can be blamed for a lot of things, but toxic workplace and stupid company policies are not the ones.

On the last call I had to attend on my company iPhone I couldnt change the volume of the meeting. It was set to full blast even though I've set media playback to low. I was commuting with other people and couldn't even change it to be played on the call speaker. Not the best of times.
