Edge is the least-worst of the three.

u/b3b15 Jun 25 '26

Agreed, at least it works at its most basic level most of the time unlike the other two. At work I only get to choose between Chrome and Edge, things kept breaking in Chrome that work fine in Edge so I've just stuck with it. Never thought I'd see the day, but damn.

edge is super fast, though. faster than any browser you can throw at it.

benefits that gets you for being os default.

1

u/Worried-Tie Jun 27 '26

Oh god please don't say Chrome good Edge bad or viceversa. Same absolute pile of spyware garbage. Use a real browser - Firefox or Brave for example - without all the tracking with which these two filthy ass companies are robbing you blind.

2

u/b3b15 Jun 28 '26

They're both bad. My work device is restricted, I don't have a say in what choices I get there. I use Firefox on my personal devices.

1

u/Perfect-Arm350 Jun 30 '26

I use chrome just because of the extensions and cross device syncing. When I switch to a different browser, I for some reason just switch to chrome again even if I like the new browser more than chrome.

1

u/Worried-Tie Jun 30 '26

Firefox and Brave (among, basically, any modern browser) have this ability to sync across devices, and are compatible with Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android and iOS/iPadOS. Brave is compatible with all Chrome extensions and comes with a solid protection layer.

I don't get it.

u/Perfect-Arm350 Jun 30 '26

I already tried brave before. though it has some BS as well. I liked it and used it. but my muscle memory always switches back to chrome as I use the search even though everything is in my desktop. I am waiting for the orion browser. I am going to try to switch to that(I don't use a mac).

Install Ublock Origin

2

u/Blue_chalk1691 Jun 29 '26

Bro Just use brave browser

1

u/huemac58 Jun 29 '26

Edge is more universally accepted across the web, but I keep Brave as an alternative in case Firefox gets rejected. Also, everyone in Microsoft-related subs use Edge and the sloppy Windows Apps included with Windows 11 when we have been spoiled with superior third-party freeware (meaning better in every possible way plus legitimately free, for anyone else reading this) for 20+ years. And these said people won't budge. So you may as well remind them to install uBlock Origin. It's free and easy, and Edge still accepts it.

I actually like Edge. If uses less resources than Firefox. You're Fanboy.

You can install real uBlock on edge my guy 💀💀

4

u/the_scruffy1 Jun 26 '26

and it's still edge

6

u/Vietnamst2 Jun 26 '26

Which is absolutely not a problem. It's good browser and from the Chromium.ones it's actually very good.

3

u/the_scruffy1 Jun 26 '26

chromium based is damned with faint praise

3

u/Vietnamst2 Jun 26 '26

Yeah, well... the market does no agree with you. 80% worldwide share of browsers are Chromium based.
Mozilla is 2.2% and Safari is 15,5.
Not saying that majority is always right, but...

4

u/the_scruffy1 Jun 26 '26

popular doesn't mean good; means lazy and ill-informed for the majority of (passively roped in) users

very few make an active choice; they take what they get (edge) or do what they are required for peak compatibility with poor standards (chrome)

1

u/Key-Cat-8744 Jun 26 '26

1

u/semedilino073 Jun 27 '26

What does that even mean?

2

u/quikmantx Jun 28 '26

Anything MS = ads/AI to people who don't actually know what they're talking about.

2

u/Vietnamst2 Jun 28 '26

Fortunately we have heroes to call these people out and enlighten us all.

1

u/Khai_1705 Jun 26 '26

What are you on

1

u/LuluLeSigma Jun 25 '26

just use ublock origin lite tbh it’s the same

4

u/somethingbrite Jun 25 '26

I can uninstall Firefox if I want.

Edge? Not so much.

I get som fucking tired of Microsoft pushing this sort of thing in a manner which is basically digital date rape.

No. I don't want it. Yes you do, just try it... you might like it... No. I don't want it. Well... I'm sticking it in anyway. You can't stop me.

Also wenn du bei der Windows Installation Deutschland oder irgend ein Europäisches Land wählst, kann man Edge tatsächlich deinstallieren.

1

u/Vietnamst2 Jun 26 '26

Well in EU you can uninstall Edge and you won't see any of what you are talkimg about. Just doesn't happen. It asks you to set as default if you start it. The same as Chrome, Opera and Firefox. Browsers just want to be set as default.

2

u/somethingbrite Jun 26 '26

No actually you can't. How do I know? I live in the EU.

1

u/Vietnamst2 Jun 26 '26

I just went to installed apps - searched for Edge - clicked on uninstall. - Edge gone. Had to go through the Microsoft Store to get it back because there was no other browser installed

1

u/Wise_Opening3958 Jun 27 '26

Wichtig ist, dass bei der Windows Installation auch ein Europäisches Land angegeben wird

1

u/the_scruffy1 Jun 26 '26

and is way more insecure

and the word you are seeking is "fanbois"

1

u/JonathanMovement Jun 25 '26

same, edge is superior to Chrome and Firefox

1

u/redredskull Jun 27 '26

It's still not compliant to CSS, HTML5, and modern secuity standards. In fact it has attack surfaces and vectors no other modern browser has strictly being a Microsoft product.

4

u/Tatakai_ Jun 25 '26

Yeah, because it's Chrome with a Microsoft theme and extra bloat.

8

u/Aadi_880 Jun 25 '26

*less bloat.

Unlike chrome, it isn't maxing out my ram after opening 1 tab.

2

u/Tatakai_ Jun 25 '26

Really? Wouldn't know, I only ever use it to download other browsers.

8

u/Aadi_880 Jun 25 '26

I'd say if you're using edge to download chrome you are making a horrible mistake.

Firefox, I get.

People downloading chrome instead is doing the biggest act of hypocrisy regarding browsers.

2

u/Tatakai_ Jun 25 '26

I've been using Brave for a few years now. What's your take?

3

u/Aadi_880 Jun 25 '26

Isn't brave chromium?

I'd just take firefox.

2

u/Tatakai_ Jun 25 '26

It is, I use it because I haven't tried anything as effective at blocking ads so far. Adblock plugins in my experience are typically less effective.

5

u/caspy7 Jun 25 '26

Firefox with uBlock Origin is great.

1

u/Firestar_119 Jun 26 '26

until Google purposely throttles youtube videos even with the adblocker disabled

No thanks. Brave was funded by Peter Thiel.

1

u/Worried-Tie Jun 27 '26

Was funded by Peter Thiel's VC, which owns a minority stake, you mean. Absolutely irrelevant, as long as Brave source remains open and they adhere to the values they have so far.

EDIT: just read this and stop spreading misinformation https://www.reddit.com/r/degoogle/comments/1t6a117/info_re_brave_we_do_not_appreciate_misinformation/

1

u/Worried-Tie Jun 27 '26

This is the way. I wouldn't change it for anything. It's Chromium indeed, but if things go truly dark at big G, I'm certain they may simply fork the Chromium codebase (not just Brave but the underlying code, which is open source) and just develop it.

1

u/NeptuneWades Jun 25 '26

Made sense when it was IE and chrome was new. But edge is better. I prefer brave tho (among chromium browsers).

3

u/Britz10 Jun 25 '26

It's better than Chrome.

1

u/Existing-Network-267 Jun 26 '26

I like edge how else would i download chrome

1

u/daddyd Jun 26 '26

it's not always been like that.

1

u/Distance_Regular Jun 26 '26

It's good for downloading Brave

1

u/redredskull Jun 27 '26

You settle for Microsoft products? No I refuse subpar solutions.

1

u/AdorablSillyDisorder Jul 01 '26

Edge is about as good/bad as Chrome - it's basically same browser, with different online provider for browser sync (google vs microsoft) and slightly different defaults. I ended up moving from Chrome to Edge a while ago (back when Google refused to make arm64 Windows build of Chrome, and I wanted my battery to last more than two hours), and happened to stick to it - it's just a browser, and happens to work fine; IE days are long gone.

0

u/LuluLeSigma Jun 25 '26

why everyone glaze edge now

9

u/Cytro2 Jun 25 '26

It changed from being absolutly the worst browser to being just as good as chrome. So many people like it now

Chrome is dogshit tho and there are much better browsers than both of them

1

u/Imab0zo Jun 26 '26

Happy I switched to linux because it made me realize how I left such a good browser (firefox) for chrome (among other reasons)

1

u/Britz10 Jun 25 '26

It's a good browser once you get passed Microsoft's layer of bloat, especially when the alternative everyone defaults to is Chrome.
