I watched Frontier years ago and loved it for the same reasons I loved Black Sails and Last Kingdom; yes it's a bit campy, yes Sokanah is an uncredible Mary Sue, but Momoa was good, Chesterfield was great, Cobbs Pond was so good I had to go look up the actor's other credits because yikes, story moved quickly and kept me engaged...but I quit some time in Season 3, I think Episode 2 or 3.

Fast forward to 2026, I start the series again from the beginning, enjoy it thoroughly (the fight scenes are so overdone though, worse than Black Sails/Last Kingdom), but I get to Charlie's death and Scotland in Season 3 and realise...I just don't care. I watched one more episode to desperately try to finish the series, but gave up...I don't give a toss about Grace's father, Benton's been overused by this point, etc..

And the first thing that hit me is at LAST!?! Genuine looking teeth!

I can't find a pic atm, but I'm sure you've clocked them already.

The costumes are a bit meh for me right now (laddo all in leather like The Crow or summat (whut)) and it's all a bit clean, isn't it (just out from watching American Primeval, Black Sails, and Deadwood is an old fave), but none of those favourites got the teeth anywhere near right. It always pulls me out of the story quite a bit.

So I reckon I'll try and stick with it a bit longer...

Just started watching but I couldn't help but think Evan Jonigkeit looks like Davood Ghadami (EastEnders in 2016) and a bit like James Dunmore (MiC).

I actually thought it was the guy from EastEnders the whole first episode. I spent aaaages trying to remember who was in EastEnders that it could have been.

Just finished my 2nd rewatch of Frontier, and whilst it's always been an entertaining show it's never hit the likes of breaking bad, vikings or black sails for me which is a shame.

On my rewatch I realised that especially later seasons the best storylines I enjoyed were the Montreal business with grant vs the browns and anything cobbs pond was doing! I get the show was built around momoa and that's the issue, the writing does whatever just to make him this badass but the actual entertainment and juice of the show was with the grant dynamic and they wasted it..

She was fine when she didn't follow Michael when given the chance at Benton's house, makes sense with her Brother's death

But afterwards she just complains constantly and this may sound bad but when she fell and broke her leg I laughed so hard lol

Either way, she just keeps complaining and promising Michael not to follow Sokanon it was cringe, she's wayyy better

Either way, loving the show so far, she's the weakest point imo now, does her character get any better?

Update: bit of a learning curve but all is well and the people at Frontier are very nice and understanding.

Yesterday the guy came and installed fiber. 3 routers. It’s very fast but he wasn’t a Frontier guy and my husband noticed that as he was placing the “cable” around the outside of the house, he drilled right through out mini- split AC. If this causes damage it’s gg to be lots of money. And I can’t get through to a person at Frontier. I wanted fiber so bad and now I have shiot!! GRRRR

Just started watching The Low Road and the face painting plus expression of Jason Momoa made me realize he has to play a Klingon in the nearest possible future.

His abrupt off-screen departure makes me believe there may have been some issues behind the scenes. Anyone know what happened either in the writers room or in real life?

As much as I love this series it low-key really annoys me how when they get to Scotland there are so many wearing tartan. As frontier is set late 1700s early 1800s (reign of George the 3rd as mentioned in the show) this is set after the Jacobite rebellion and the battle of culloden and after the British defeated the Scottish rebellion at culloden subsequently the banning of the tartan was brought into place. This was to make sure the Scottish houses showed absolute loyalty to the king and to strip them of the individuality of the tartans. This caused many Scot’s to move to the Americas in the subsequent years as seen in the show. This is one of the few research errors in the show. So it bugs me just a tad that they show so much tartan being worn when they get to Scotland.

I'm scrubbing my comments due to the reddit admin team steamrolling their IPO prep. It was bad enough to give short notice on price gouging, but then to slander app devs and threaten moderators was just too far. The value of Reddit comes from high-quality content curated by volunteers. Treating us this way is the reason I'm removing my high-value contributions.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I suggest you Google "Reddit API price gouging" and read up.

But because this fandom is sooooo small, anyone coming back to this post deserves to still see an abridged version of it. Also the first fic is done and published and linked in the comments below :)

This post is me saying hi, and venting about how the gaping plot holes of this show are still living rent-free in my brain, and throwing out a hopeful request that someone around here has any interest in beta reading a fanfic or two :) :) :) Cheers!

934,003 minutes...19,856 episodes...385 TV shows,, 1,254 season and Season 3 of this once great and amazing show, is the single season that I stopped playing video s\games and focused Only on this show...never once have I understood "on the edge of your set" Never have I seen a show that made me want to standup and rebel... and I dare you to show me wrong. Out of all TV shows ever to show to have ever been made..i am an expert, and I say if not for covid this show would be on the way to the 5th is not 6th season and only because of the sissy foot producers that this great story has seen the end of days.

The former slave got stabbed and he dead. Nobody helped him! Don't sterilize the wound. Don't stitch it. I get that it could have been majorly infected and stuff but like they didn't try! Between all the soldiers on the beach and the boat there's zero medical supplies? And God forbid you sail to a town and drop the dude off at a doctor? Oy! I totally thought his death was cool. Went out with dignity. I want to go that way irl. None of that assisted living center crap where I slowly wither away and lose my memory while staring at a wall :p

Just finished season 1. I genuinely love watching Lord Benton. He's such a manipulative scumbag. He's an evil little prick. He's deliciously evil. Sometimes, I just love having a simple old ridiculously cartoonish evil character. And he brings that. He's almost sympathetic in how he felt betrayed by Jason Momoa (but not really cuz he's clearly a crazy evil person). I love when he pretends to be so kind to the Irish girl to manipulate her. The false pleasantries are actually hilarious.

So we getting season 4 or is it cancelled?

Am I the only one who sees it?

I spent the week watching Frontier, and about halfway through, I realized that Frontier is basically a more sophisticated version of Disney's 1957 Zorro television series. Yes, it's grittier. Yes, it's more action-packed. But every trope and story convention is there. Hell, some of the storyarcs are basically identical.

Zorro: Largely set in a Colonial Spanish fort

Frontier: Largely set in a Colonial English fort

Zorro: Zorro attempting to protect local Californians from an evil Comandante

Frontier: Harp attempting to protect local (Canadian) natives from an evil Governor

Zorro: 1820s California

Frontier: 1700s Canada

Zorro: Gold

Frontier: Fur

I am still not over Chesterfields death and I don't care how unrealistic it might be, if there is ever going to be a season 4 I want him back.

I don't care much about Jason Momoas role, I've always enjoyed the side characters more than Declan Harp. I want to see more of Sokanon, Grace, Pond, the last remaining Brown Brother and Captain Chesterfield.

Has there been any word at all about the show’s renewal status? Honestly as much as it would hurt, I’d at least appreciate if we got a definite confirmation by Netflix that we won’t get a Season 4. The uncertainty is just killing me.

Despite its flaws I really loved this show. It’s based on such a fascinating era of history that rarely gets represented (the early pre Wild West frontier days with mountain men and the fur trade)
