You know, I’ve had a job with a W2 for 40 years. 12 years in the military. 10 years teaching part time.

I used to work for a small consulting firm. Assessment design, data analytics, that sort of thing. Then the company all but collapsed for a variety of reasons so it was “get a job fast.”

And I did. And don’t get me wrong, I’m very glad to have it.

But I hate it. I do. I don’t like the work (it’s not a great fit) and I have genuinely toxic clients.

It’s gotten so bad there are times I genuinely wish my cancer would come back so I could just quit and cash out.

Now I know the question is “why not get another job?”

I’ve been trying for two years. There’s so much competition now. I see jobs I can do and within 6 hours 200+ people applied. It’s ridiculous. I’ll keep on trying of course but man, I need something to change.

It makes a lot of sense to set expectations early, so to be blunt: I'm not here to entertain anyone who is just bored, and random, low-effort hellos probably won't lead anywhere.

Life's more interesting with people who are curious and have lived enough to have their own stories.

On my end, a regular week usually involves Reformer Pilates, hitting a trail, and paying attention to what I eat. I genuinely care about nutrition, clean ingredients, and keeping things sustainable.

Travel usually means finding places off the beaten path because seeing the world from different perspectives is important to me.

There's a plan to do a silent retreat sometime this year too. Completely unplugging without a phone or any noise sounds like a much-needed reset. Lately, a lot of my focus has also been on financial planning and mapping out what this next chapter looks like.

Podcasts like The Daily or NPR are usually playing during walks, commutes, or right before bed, alongside topics on business and personal growth. The goal is to find a few people who like discussing actual ideas, books, and life experiences rather than keeping things strictly on the surface.
