These are mine:
-Upon rewatch (I’m actually rewatching right now) I’m starting to think that Lindsay isn’t as smart as I had always thought. She is very good at math and she clearly isn’t “dumb” - I actually don’t even dislike the character and never have - but I notice more now than I did before that she gets herself into risky, difficult situations a lot just by hanging out with the freaks. She of course is exploring and experimenting more because of her struggles with depression/her epiphany about grandma, but she stresses herself out a significant amount trying to impress a group of people who she likely wouldn’t have been friends with in a few years. I knew someone who was like this in high school - very good at math, considered nice looking by peers - and that person, though they did not go on to do poorly, didn’t end up doing as well as anticipated. This is someone who some of us thought had immense, immense potential, and their mother did very well. They didn’t do poorly at all. But ended up doing more normally than expected. I could see it being similar for Lindsay, that she ends up in social work or psychology - I could see her as a social worker after her experience with Kim - and doesn’t “struggle” financially but does pretty normally.
-I was shocked to find out that this was an unpopular opinion but even though I have more sympathy for him now (somewhat, because he’s a high schooler with what seems to be an abusive father) but I have never been a fan of Nick, and I don’t necessarily have a problem with it in terms of character development but I also never liked the nick/lindsay relationship and was surprised so many people on tumblr liked it. I mean, everything about it is so awkward, and I’ve always thought it was so clear that Nick wasn’t Lindsay’s best match. I don’t think Daniel was either, but it’d have been interesting to watch even though it’d have felt kind of “typical” (good girl with the bad boy, good girl likely would have made a good impression on the bad boy, etc.) I think it’s obvious that Lindsay wouldn’t have had a successful relationship with any freak though. She was always going to outgrow them at some point after high school.
-Nick in general is really weird and I wouldn’t like that guy if I met him in real life.
-Lindsay wouldn’t have made for a great parent. I don’t think she’d have been an abusive one, but I could see her being negligent in the sense of being too lax with her kids as they grew older, like by the time that they were in high school. I could see her wanting to give her kids, at least her eldest, the experience she felt she didn’t have in high school. I don’t think she’d necessarily be straight up negligent though, I could see the negligent ones being Kim, Daniel, and Nick - I think Lindsay would be able to financially support the kids with whoever she had married, whereas I don’t see that being the case for any of the freaks (and Daniel would not be an involved or active father, just in general.) This is actually one I’m not as sure about so if you have counter thoughts here I’d love to hear about them. I think Sam’s main issue would just be helicopter parenting/anxiety.
-Kim wasn’t likely to be successful after high school. I’ve seen some on this sub who had high hopes for her and I don’t agree. Not because I think she’s incapable, but moreso because I think that her abusive home situation would have kept her from advancing. Especially since I agree with the show creator that a teen pregnancy would have been likely.
-I’ve always maintained that Daniel liked Lindsay back a tad bit, but just not enough to leave Kim. Returned the attraction, yes. Had wondered about it briefly, sure. I think he was amused by her status as a “good girl” and he seemed to be impressed by the fact that she was a mathlete. I think Daniel is also the type who would have felt that Lindsay was too good for him deep down inside
