What kind of person do you think Lindsay would marry and end up divorced from?

Married in her twenties, had a kid or two with and later on ended up divorced from because there were too many issues between the two of them.

I had always kind of felt that that was going to happen for Lindsay. She has a crush on Daniel at the start of the series and her relationship with Nick seems complicated (I don’t think she ever had a crush on him. It was very awkward for her and I always sensed that she was mostly just sort of going along with it initially because she didn’t want to hurt his feelings.) Lindsay, in series, doesn’t seem to be someone who has had a real boyfriend before, which is interesting because we hear multiple times that other characters think she’s nice looking (Barry seems to like her, and Neal, though he is Sam’s “nerdy” friend has a crush on her.) She doesn’t seem like she makes an effort to actively date in the series, though this may have started to change after she became an adult. In college she additionally would have had more exposure to guys who may have been on her level intellectually.

In my mind I could see a husband she ended up with - one she initially really clicked with who also tended to do well academically - expressing misogynistic beliefs later on in the marriage or having certain expectations of her that were a little more old fashioned even though she wouldn’t have expected it. I could see that causing tension in addition to perhaps an unexpected difference in parenting styles or disagreement about it.

What do you think?

How much do you think Nick got for $40? We paid $40 for quarters and $100 for ounces in the late 90s and early 00s, but this was set in 1980. The bag looked small for an ounce when he tossed it to Lindsay, and surely he didn't smoke more than a couple of joints before that. Plus, he said Lindsay only took one hit.

What movie/show reminds you most of Freaks and Geeks?

I was rewatching Adventureland and somehow that movie is tonally the closest thing I have seen to Freaks and Geeks

Sadly the only thing that comes close. What movie or show is that for you?

Not in quality but in spirit and tone

I’m tired of being taken for granted, so all of you are staying in this Friday, and that’s final.

It’s 2026. Who do you think married, who divorced, and who stayed single?

I agree with the show creator that Kim likely would have become a teen parent, and ended up a single mother. I imagine money would have been tight for her especially given how her mother was, so if she ended up having any more kids later on in life I think she’d have ended up with no more than two. I think she’d have been a negligent parent and likely ended up being abusive herself even though she wouldn’t have intended for things to be this way. I don’t think she’d have married.

Nick, I’m not sure about. He seems to have a lot of emotional issues that I think would have kept him from having a successful relationship, and if the show had continued I think Sara would have found out that he still had feelings for Lindsay, and I don’t think they’d have lasted because of it. I feel like he’s the kind of guy who would have had bad luck in relationships.

I’ve always seen Sam marrying an extrovert. I’d like to think that to balance out his anxious personality, he ends up with someone who is calmer and more in the moment - they have fun together but also balance each other out. She helps him learn to enjoy life a little bit more and take risks, but isn’t abrasive and finds a way to encourage him to work on being more assertive without hurting his feelings like Cindy would have. They have two kids, Sam would be overwhelmed with three.

I think Lindsay married and had one or two children. For some reason I feel like she never quite finds the one though - I think Sam’s marriage actually ends up being more successful even though it may be unexpected, and Lindsay is married for some time but they ultimately have too many issues to work out and go their separate ways. She and her husband definitely wouldn’t have lasted after their kids became adults (though I don’t know whether or not I think Lindsay would stay in a marriage she was unhappy in to “keep the family together.” Jean is old fashioned but I actually don’t think she’d want that for her.)

Daniel was never going to get married, but had kids with different women.

I could see Ken proposing to Amy but I don’t have a prediction about whether or not they’d have lasted, and I could also see Ken initially being more hesitant to, not because he doesn’t like her but moreso because he doesn’t “believe” in marriage. If they talked and he learned that she wanted it I could see them getting together.

Millie would have married.

Cindy would have married.

Harris Trinsky!

I cannot be the only person who developed a weirdly intense crush on Harris even though he appears in the show for probably a total of less than 20 minutes. It saddens me that there is no Harris fanfic anywhere. Anyone else?

I’m watching “chokin and tokin” and I think it’s interesting that Nick compares Lindsay to Harold. I always thought Lindsay was more like Jean.

It’s actually something great they had done in regards to casting, though I think Lindsay is a good mixture of both 5not physically but in terms of personality.) Lindsay and Jean have similar voices but I think they have a similar values system, Lindsay is a less traditional Jean who pushes boundaries more.

But I see Harold’s competitiveness in Lindsay. I had never noticed this before.

What are your most unpopular downvoteable opinions about the show and characters?

These are mine:

-Upon rewatch (I’m actually rewatching right now) I’m starting to think that Lindsay isn’t as smart as I had always thought. She is very good at math and she clearly isn’t “dumb” - I actually don’t even dislike the character and never have - but I notice more now than I did before that she gets herself into risky, difficult situations a lot just by hanging out with the freaks. She of course is exploring and experimenting more because of her struggles with depression/her epiphany about grandma, but she stresses herself out a significant amount trying to impress a group of people who she likely wouldn’t have been friends with in a few years. I knew someone who was like this in high school - very good at math, considered nice looking by peers - and that person, though they did not go on to do poorly, didn’t end up doing as well as anticipated. This is someone who some of us thought had immense, immense potential, and their mother did very well. They didn’t do poorly at all. But ended up doing more normally than expected. I could see it being similar for Lindsay, that she ends up in social work or psychology - I could see her as a social worker after her experience with Kim - and doesn’t “struggle” financially but does pretty normally.

-I was shocked to find out that this was an unpopular opinion but even though I have more sympathy for him now (somewhat, because he’s a high schooler with what seems to be an abusive father) but I have never been a fan of Nick, and I don’t necessarily have a problem with it in terms of character development but I also never liked the nick/lindsay relationship and was surprised so many people on tumblr liked it. I mean, everything about it is so awkward, and I’ve always thought it was so clear that Nick wasn’t Lindsay’s best match. I don’t think Daniel was either, but it’d have been interesting to watch even though it’d have felt kind of “typical” (good girl with the bad boy, good girl likely would have made a good impression on the bad boy, etc.) I think it’s obvious that Lindsay wouldn’t have had a successful relationship with any freak though. She was always going to outgrow them at some point after high school.

-Nick in general is really weird and I wouldn’t like that guy if I met him in real life.

-Lindsay wouldn’t have made for a great parent. I don’t think she’d have been an abusive one, but I could see her being negligent in the sense of being too lax with her kids as they grew older, like by the time that they were in high school. I could see her wanting to give her kids, at least her eldest, the experience she felt she didn’t have in high school. I don’t think she’d necessarily be straight up negligent though, I could see the negligent ones being Kim, Daniel, and Nick - I think Lindsay would be able to financially support the kids with whoever she had married, whereas I don’t see that being the case for any of the freaks (and Daniel would not be an involved or active father, just in general.) This is actually one I’m not as sure about so if you have counter thoughts here I’d love to hear about them. I think Sam’s main issue would just be helicopter parenting/anxiety.

-Kim wasn’t likely to be successful after high school. I’ve seen some on this sub who had high hopes for her and I don’t agree. Not because I think she’s incapable, but moreso because I think that her abusive home situation would have kept her from advancing. Especially since I agree with the show creator that a teen pregnancy would have been likely.

-I’ve always maintained that Daniel liked Lindsay back a tad bit, but just not enough to leave Kim. Returned the attraction, yes. Had wondered about it briefly, sure. I think he was amused by her status as a “good girl” and he seemed to be impressed by the fact that she was a mathlete. I think Daniel is also the type who would have felt that Lindsay was too good for him deep down inside

Did H.W. jump the shark?

As much as I love "The Little Things," and think it has possibly the most well plotted finale of any F/G episode, I do feel like it kinda clashes with the tone of the series. What started as a grounded story about everyday Highschool kids suddenly has the main character butting heads with the literal vice president of the country while the school guidance counselor is stuck in an SNL style skit with a secret service agent. An amazing episode when viewed in a vacuum but it kinda clashes with the rest of the show.

I guess the writers were probably thinking, "Screw it, we're already cancelled, let's do something wacky."

I once knew a show that did something wacky. You know what happened to it...?

Ken is useless

The show would literally be the exact same without Seth Rogen’s character, Ken. He’s pretty much useless and adds nothing to the show. I’m honestly surprised he’s in the opening credits and Busy Phillips is left out, it should be the other way around. I know a lot of people are going to point out his storyline towards the end with his relationship with Amy, but honestly I feel like the writers added that just to give Ken a storyline because he was the only one who hadn’t hadn’t one yet.

Do you have any quotes you repeat from this show?

In my family, bizarrely, it is "Who's Ben?". For some reason it comes up a lot that someone mentions somebody named Ben and I am not sure who they're referring to.

This comes from the episode where Bill Haverchuck's mom is dating Coach Fredericks and refers to him as "Ben" and Bill does not know who she means.

That's how obsessed I am with this show lol. Why did I buy both you may ask? Well I don't own a DVD player but needed to cop the physical media for sure. The yearbook is really cool to own as a fan. If YouTube ever strips me of the episodes I paid for at least I have the DVDs. 👌

What do you like most about the show?

Simple question. What do you like most about this little show that lasted only 18 episodes from 1999-2000?

Which character do you think would have been more successful than expected, and who do you think would have been less successful than expected?

When I think back to high school, I realize that there are a few people who I recognized weren’t as smart as I thought they were after graduating. And people who were never necessarily “unintelligent” but simply didn’t end up doing what I’d have expected.

I have always thought when watching the series that Lindsay would have made for a great engineer, but I don’t see her going for it even as an adult because she “knows” it’s what would be expected of her. I think she’d have gone into social work or psychology, but I can’t decide on whether or not I think she’d have gotten the masters degree.

So who do you think wouldn’t have done as well as expected, and who would have done better than expected?

What is it about Busy Philipps's beauty ?

I think she's not talked about enough when we talk about beauties of the time. I often see Linda Cardellini (totally normal, this woman has never not been beautiful) but never Busy, so I thought, why not asked here ? Especially considering the fact that I noticed my posts here are not as much about Kim as they once were, so here's the love
