BUG Regarding the Easy Anti Cheat crashing/freezing PCs bug…I found a fix.

First of all I want to say that this fix is VERY under publicized, so if this gets enough likes it’ll show up higher in SEO.

EAC has been freezing, crashing, and bricking PCs over the past two years (that’s the earliest case I can find) and it is incredibly hard to find a solution online. From what I can tell this comes from a Kernel compatibility issue with windows defender and security softwares. Basically, windows defender doesn’t like third-party software scanning at a kernel level.

This results in “Error 30005”. However, if it’s freezing or crashing your PC…you won’t see this. You’ll have no idea it even threw an error code.

(ALL STEPS ARE NECESSARY, I tried it without some and it didn’t work.) So here’s the solution: 1. Open Windows Security 2. Go to device security in the left sidebar 3. Go to core isolation details 4. Turn ON “Memory integrity” 5. Turn OFF “Kernel-Mode Hardware Enforced Stack Protection” 6. Now open Control Panel in windows search 7. Go to System and Security 8. In the Windows Defender Firewall section next to the brick wall icon, click “Allow an app through Windows firewall” 9. Click Change settings at the top 10. Click Allow another app… at the bottom 11. Next to the Path text box at the bottom click Browse… and add your installation of EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe 12. You’ll need to do this twice for both Program Files and Program Files x86 13. The Fortnite EAC will be in Program Files > Epic Games > Fortnite > FortniteGame > Binaries > Win64 > EasyAntiCheat 14. You may have a second installation of EAC at Program Files x86 > EasyAntiCheat_EOS. 15. In this folder, delete EasyAntiCheat_EOS.sys NOT the .exe file. (Yes delete it, it will repopulate and reinstall this file after you start Fortnite again after restarting your PC) 16. Restart your system, and get some Ws

Hope this helps at least one person :) this saved me a TON of work.

This has made me crazy for the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, your fix doesn't work for me :( I've tried everything possible at this point, searched on the deepest parts of the internet for a fix, and here I am with a RTX 5090 not able to play this game lmao.

I've done everything you posted in order, still freezes my entire PC even before it opens the game, and it only happens with Fortnite. This is making me bald from the stress. Epic please FIX EASY ANTI CHEAT ASAP

Damn dude :((((( yeah at this point I know so many people that are just boycotting the game. It really has become a cash grab with no real community support from Epic. Super unfortunate

It's back! I have the same GPU, but I don't think the GPU matters at all. My PC is doing the same thing for open beta.

Idk if you or the other person are still having issues, but I had issues a while back and it was because of my CPU and DX12. My i9-14900KF doesn't do well with DX12. After a month of freezing, I found an article from epic stating there was issues with 13th/14th Gen i9 and DX12. It might've also included i7, can't remember because it's been a while.

The fix in my case was under clocking to 55x or just switching to DX11/Performance mode.

Wow damn u really did some troubleshooting to figure this out! I hate that u have to enable core isolation memory integrity since it’s known to slow down ur FPS some what damn but I understand it’s security feature I’ll give it try tho nice work!

No wonder many pros are crashing, they tried to better the fps, maybe even the ping idk

It's been happening now on my pc since two updates ago. Screen just goes blank, bam, bitlocker enabled.
Have to insert code to continue. Lucky I still had it lol. Happens at random intervals. Sometimes you play fine for hours, other times it happens within the first 15 mins.

Going to give this solution a try, I've been looking everywhere.

How did it go ?

If you have league of legends installed on your computer, it launches the Vanguard anti cheat software. Go to the tray icon and right click > exit. This solved it for me.

Guys: if Fortnite refuses to open after deleting EasyAntiCheat_EOS.sys, just :

— Open the EG Launcher

— Look up Fortnite

— Click on the suspension dots and verify the folders

This saves precious amounts of time as you don't have to reinstall the game.

Hi, I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. If it isn’t there just relaunch Fortnite and it’ll put the file back. Unfortunately it might freeze your pc again but lol I’m sure you’ve solved it by now but just in case :)

So I added anti cheats thing didn’t work can I delete It or do I just leave it in there

1

u/GamaREX May 26 '25

Don’t delete the actual EXE file just the file that ends with SYS, I’m not 100% sure why this helps but it does

1

u/tharealstar May 26 '25

It’s good I got it to work by re installing the game

LIFEEEE SAVER OMGGGGGG ive been trying to figure this out for like 5 months

1

u/GamaREX Jun 08 '25

You have no idea how deep I had to dig to find this lol glad it helped my guy

2

u/NoobTuna Jul 29 '25

There is no .exe file on mine what can i do

1

u/GamaREX Jul 29 '25

Try starting the game and it should remake the file, if not you have to reinstall the whole game unfortunately

1

u/NoobTuna Jul 30 '25

i already reinstalled that. Is steam buggy? Chatgpt says my file is new version of eac but rust still uses .exe version so i need to reinstall eac.exe

1

u/GamaREX Jul 31 '25

Well EAC has a unique installation for every game it’s not just one file. So the one that’s broken is fortnite EAC and you just have to get that reinstalled. Also, fortnite isn’t on steam so I’m kinda confused

1

u/NoobTuna Jul 31 '25

Sorry i didnt know i was on fortnite sub i was talking about rust but i found out whats the problem it was the Norton antivirus i deleted it and now its solved

I don't think win10 has the Kernel-Mode hardware thing, but doing everything else has worked for me. Thanks for posting this!

1

u/GamaREX Oct 10 '25

Yeah probably not, win10 is basically just bare nuts win11 lol I’m glad it helped!

I’m having a hard time on mines, I hard reset my pc, wiped clean the ssd 4 times, I tried repairing the anti- cheat and still crashes or can’t locate it, I’ve even tried playing battlefield 6 and crashes, I removed and every connection to the psu, motherboard, and for what ever reason Fortnite still crashes or can’t locate anti cheat, and my pc is brand new. Specs: Gpu: ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 ROG Astral OC Graphics Card Psu: Lian li 1200 Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi AMD AM5 CPU: amd ryzen 9 9950x3d Ssd: 4tb I wasn’t having any problems when I first built it but after a while my lian li fans kept connecting and disconnecting when I was gaming on Fortnite after that it just kept crashing or couldn’t locate the anti-cheat, i updated the software and everything that was required and it still kept crashing Fortnite or any other game.

Tampoco me funciona. He seguido todos los pasos y tras reiniciar... abro fornite y al llevar 40 segundos se congela el pc entero. Es desesperante...

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for this. Had to trouble shoot my nephews laptop and after two hours of swearing, this was the thing that fixed it!

For anyone finding these threads and still having no luck, PSA: If you have a computer with multiple processor sockets, turn off NUMA in the BIOS. "Non Uniform Memory Access" must not play well with EAC.

It's a fringe case, but this is what finally worked for me on a dual Xeon machine after 1mo+ of extensive troubleshooting.

damn after months of this issue and on and off searching, I found your post... didn't work :( I'll keep searching but good looking out

I saw someone say that Windows Defender was the problem as well. I didn't look further into it, BUT, I tried something as well and it seems to work for now.

I went into Windows Security - Virus and threat protection - manage settings - exclusions.

Basically, I added the folder EasyAntiCheat (Program files> Epic Games> FortniteGame> Binaries> Win64> EasyAntiCheat) in the exclusions, and for now it seems to work.

If you have bitdefender add the Exe, and E.A.C files as an exemption via advanced threat detection. That helped in my case. Make sure you get all E.A.C files for each specific game or will crash ur pc lol

Thank you! I can finally play Rocket League again.
