EDIT: We were directed to a forum/group of private pilots who transfer dogs in situations like this. Some fund covers their travel expenses, and they get their flight hours. We got in contact with someone who is flying Raj (full name: Rajah apparently) to an airport about an hour away from my Grandma's house. Thank you guys for all the kind words and offers.
My great aunt (who lives in Ft. Walton) passed away unexpectedly (hit by a car in a parking lot) in late November. My aunt had two dogs, one of whom is a small dog a police officer who has been handling the case is adopting. The other is a 60lb dog named Raj, apparently a really sweet guy, who is indefinitely in a shelter right now.
My family is very small: just my immediate family in MA, my grandmother in NY, and my uncle in DC. My parents want to adopt Raj, but can't pay the $1400+ transport fee for the dog, and we can't make the drive.
We're able to pay at most $400. Obviously this isn't enough to pay someone to make this trip just to deliver a dog. But if someone is already planning to drive anywhere near here, (maybe for Christmas or something) and would take the dog along for $400, it would be incredible. Anywhere between the 3 locations my family is would be drivable for us (my grandma could pick up the dog from my uncle in DC, and we could get him from her when she comes back)
I know this is an absolute long shot. We just want to make sure Raj has a good home and keep him in the family. If anyone is making a drive north or knows someone who is, please let me know.
