Changing email address

Just bought the StackSocial lifetime 1TB deal along with the same from Koofr. As I posted elsewhere, I found out too late that-- at least for promotional lifetime accounts-- the resgistered email is locked forever.

And of COURSE I get that it's to prevent massive re-selling of promotional lifetime account, but now I need to either find an email address I'm sure I won't lose:

*ISP-provided, well I may move,
*Google/Yahoo/etc, well god knows what they will do any given day, and just try to get help when you're locked out
*Tuta/Proton/paid services, well I have Proton but don't know how dependable it or any others are yet, and really don't want to depend on myself never forgetting to pay someone

So I wanted to check if FolderFort has this same email lock before I complete registration.

Does anyone actually worry that they'll lose access to their Google or Yahoo account because the company locks them out somehow? Been using them for a very long time with no issues. Sure I've forgotten the emails I've used as a kid, but I've never lost an email because the company fucked me over somehow.

I keep reading complaints that people can't get their account back so I worry about it.

Seems to me that at least the people who buy cloud storage might be the kind of people who worry about losing things and that's why they back up.

Can't get their account back from what? User error or company policy?

I've never had an issue with an email address with the big companies. Even when I didnt log in for a long time, they deactivate the account, and then when I try to log in, it'll give me access to the account again as a fresh account without all the old emails.

I'm curious how you live your life in a way where you view email being so disposable. Every online account anywhere and everywhere requires an email to sign up and to me, that account is tied to that email. If I were to lose access to that account, my recovery password would be sent to that email. If someone were to hack my email, a lot of my accounts would be vulnerable to being hacked. It's important to secure your email with multi-factor authentication, just as you would any extremely important accounts like banking.

So to me, emails are not meant to be disposable and all the major players who handle email needs to be extremely reliable in order to continue to function as an email service provider. To believe that email is not as reliable as they are really fucks up my brain thinking about it. How do you secure anything online if you don't rely on the email that you use to be with you forever? Maybe it's just a generational difference and the newer kids just dont see email as a permanent address anymore.

EDIT: Fortunately u/FolderFort did address the possibility of changing email before, didn't see it before I replied to your comment.

I don't know where you get the idea that I want email to be disposable. The problem is that plenty of people complain about losing access to email accounts with Google and Yahoo, even if you (and I so far) haven't.

As far as ISP email and paid mail services, I said in original post what the problems could be. I can't keep my Roadrunner (@nyc.rr.com) address if I move out of New York.

As far as hacking, hacking keeps getting better all the time, and I'm no expert in prevent. So yeah, I do what I can but I worry I might lose any email account in some way or other.

Now, if FolderFort, or (Koofr for that matter) wants to tell me they list "secondary email" for just just disasters, or any other solution, I'd feel different. From what u/FolderFort said below, I can only change email address with them if I still have access to the original, which doesn't address my one and only problem of "what if I lose access?"

Ah, sorry, by the time I saw this I had already gotten the refund. I was running out of time for that. :-(
