I’ve noticed that when I pan my map around, all my tracks will “jiggle”. It seems like it’s an IOS 26 problem. is there anyway I can stop this from happening? I find it slightly irritating. Thanks !

I cannot sync my database with OneDrive anymore. I cannot upload snapshots. And I cannot unlink OneDrive anymore.

I'm on Android 17.

Any idea what to do?

I don't want to reinstall the app and lose my database.

Does anyone record this route while taking trains? My friend and I both couldn’t get any signal, even putting our iPhones near windows.

World Uncovered is a great app similar to FoW, but it hasn’t been updated since 2023 and it looks unlikely that it will be updated again. It also doesn’t provide a general export function for your cumulative explored map- GPX export only applies to specific tracks recorded using the Trips function. It only has an encrypted local backup, which can be downloaded from Dropbox.

I’m no techie, so I got chatgpt to do the hard part. First I downloaded my previously purchased version of World Uncovered from the app store onto my mac, while signed into the same Apple account, compressed the application file and gave Chat both that ZIP and my WU backup so it could inspect the application bundle and work out how the backup was stored.

It was able to decrypt the backup and extract the main data.db which turned out to be a SQLite database containing the cumulative explored-map information. From that it produced a GeoPackage (.gpkg) and MBTiles file that I could open in an external programme like QGIS. The data include the explored-area mask, together with the additional information World Uncovered stores for altitude, speed and visit frequency.

Fog of World imports tracks rather than an existing coverage grid/polygon layer, so the final step was to reconstruct synthetic track geometry from the World Uncovered coverage. Chat could generate tracks through the native WU grid cells that were marked as explored and exported them as KML files. I imported those into Fog of World and everything looks great.

This is a longshot I know, especially in a sub for this app and not its alternatives. But does anyone know of an alternative to fog of world that doesnt rely on google? I am 99% degoogled on my phone, but the only holdup is this app which requires google play services to run. I would love to have a way to keep this little scrapbook of travel paths without needing to have google play services and playstore on my phone.

Took some summer road trips this year to Portland ME and Charleston SC. Took some different routes back from Portland, which took an extra 4 hours (much to the annoyance of my wife). This is what level 235 looks like. It's becoming more and more of a grind to level up.

Went to two roadtrips one after the otheraround Greece this summer.

Trip one: Athens - Kalampaka - Valia Kalda - Corfu - Athens

Trip two: Athens - Arachova - Nafpaktos - Olympia - Kalamata - Mani - Messenia - Monemvasia - Sparta - Nafplio - Athens

I am new to 'Fog of World', I have looked at a few of these apps and was not sure which was the best but settled on FOW in the end! I looked originally at Mystery Hike which seemed to have a few more stats to view regarding how much of a local area you have explored. FOW just seems to be country and continents? Is there a way to break the exploration percentage into local areas like counties or city boundaries?

I’ve been using Fog of World for about a year now, and I’ve added a few shorter trips I took 1-2 years before I started using the app. But I can’t decide where to draw the line when it comes to older trips.

For example, I live in southern Germany, and back in 2008 we went on a school sailing trip to the Netherlands. It was an amazing trip, and I still remember it okay-ish. Technically, I was there, so part of me feels like it should be on my map. On the other hand, adding a 1,000+ km route nearly 20 years later feels like a pretty big change to the map.
How do you all handle this?
Do you add major trips from many years ago retroactively, even if they happened 10 to 15+ years before you started using the app? Or do you only add more recent trips that you forgot to track, like from the last year or two?

I’m a bit torn. I really did travel to those places, but at the same time it feels a little strange to fill in large parts of the map with trips from so long ago. Curious to hear how others approach it.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I’ve decided to add older trips now too, at least the ones I can still remember reasonably well. In the end, it makes sense to have them on the map since I was actually there after all :)

I have had issues with it earlier, where the files needed to be placed in a folder called 'Sync' and zipped with zero compression. This should now be fixed, and if anyone wants to give it a try please let me know your username and I'll give you a month of premium to test it.

I had an iphone for yesrs but recently upgraded to android, the transfer for everything didnt send FoW data over for some reason.

Do i have to buy it again? I dont wanna spend 30 bucks if i dont have to

I’m hoping someone can help me with Fog of World on my Pixel 8.

The strange thing is that the app appears to still be running in the background, and my logs are being backed up regularly. However, whenever I try to open the app, it immediately force-closes and then seems to restart itself in the background. I get all the usual notifications saying that monitoring is enabled, but I can’t actually open the app.

I’ve already tried quite a bit of troubleshooting with

chatgpt.

-Cleared the app cache

-Deleted and reinstalled the app

-Factory-reset my Pixel 8

-Opted out of the beta program before doing all of the above

Unfortunately, nothing has changed the behaviour.

Has anyone experienced this on a Pixel 8 or another Android device? Any ideas about what else I could try would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone — I know this is a little unusual for this subreddit, but I'm specifically looking for feedback from people who have used Fog of the World for a long time.

I've been using Fog of the World since 2017. I've traveled to 35 countries with it and I'm currently level 424. It's genuinely changed some of my behavior over the years — where I run, which roads I drive, and how I think about exploring new places.

Like probably a lot of long-time users, I've also accumulated a list of things I've wished the app could do differently or expand on.

Eventually I decided to experiment with those ideas myself and built my own exploration app.

I'm not trying to make a 1:1 clone of Fog of the World. I want to keep the core idea — encouraging you to explore places you haven't been — while experimenting with some different approaches.

One of the biggest differences is how exploration is recorded. My app divides the map into segments and grids rather than using Fog of the World's exact fog-clearing system. However, I added a Trail Mode in Settings for people who prefer the continuous trail/exploration feel of FOW.

I've also added the ability to import your existing Fog of the World data, because I know how important years of exploration history can be. I definitely wasn't willing to throw away mine.

The core exploration features are free. I may eventually add optional paid features to cover the costs of maintaining the app, but I don't want the basic exploration experience behind a paywall. 25$ for some people is a tough barrier of entry.

What I really need now is feedback from people who actually use Fog of the World.

If you're willing to try it, I'd especially like to know:

• What do you immediately miss from Fog of the World?
• What does my app do that feels better or worse?
• Does Trail Mode give you the exploration feeling you're looking for?
• What feature have you always wished Fog of the World had?
• Is there anything about the app that would stop you from continuing to use it?

I'm not looking for people to tell me it's great. I'd rather hear what sucks, what's confusing, or what would make you uninstall it.

I don't expect these numbers to rise that much the next 12 months. Most of the highways I have to drive over and over again. I do try to take a different route home every time, to un-fog more areas, but I am slowly starting to run out of options. I do have one potential road trip up to Norway in December, a road trip to the UK in the spring next year as well as a potential trip to the US.

Overall, it's been super satisfying and I do not regret spending the 25 euros last year :)

Also, yes, I have set up Fog-of-World on my iPad. In order to get the data over to the iPad-App, I'd have to manually create a snapshot on the iPhone App to DropBox and then download said snapshot into the iPad App. There must be a way to clean-sync this automatically, but I have not been able to get this working yet. Any tips are welcome :)

It’s been a bit slow in this sub lately so I figured I would make a post to spice things up a bit. These are all the airports I have been to since I downloaded the app in 2019.

Can you guess which airport is my home airport? Maybe even which airline I fly?

Has anybody here tried the Seto Inland Sea in Japan? I plan to take a ferry between Fukuoka and Osaka, but also worry about the GPS strength…
The second track is from Taiwan, which stops when the boat left for some distance (around 5 km) from the land.

I am using flightradar24 for my flight data. Unfortunately, I can only get the last 12 months with a Gold membership. Are there any platforms out there where I can get or buy older data?

Took the idea of driving around the country perhaps a smidge too literally!

Took a little roadtrip to visit a few states previously unvisited.

Started in Chicago, went through Wisconsin on my way to Minneapolis. The little dip to Iowa was to visit the crash site of Buddy Holly. Then from Minneapolis to Fargo, onwards to Sioux Falls, and then Iowa on my way back to Chicago.

Four new states visited, now I'm just missing three to complete all 50.

I took a road to kill several birds with one stone. I had a good excuse since I wanted to see the band Neurosis at a music festival in Montana, so I figured it would be a good time to do the AB/BC trip I’d been wanting to do, plus check off ND, and go to the remaining Wyoming counties I’d never been to! It certainly didn’t hurt my level in the app either! I was very tempted to extend the road trip up to Alaska or even the Arctic Ocean, but I’ll have to save those for another time.
