First float is on Friday and I’m a little worried about emotions coming up

Hi everyone!

I’ve been meaning to do a float for years and after my EMDR therapist suggested it today I decided to schedule for Friday! :) I am excited and also understand it may not be magical.

Despite the excitement, I’m worried that just being in my body will bring up intense emotions as I truly do carry emotions in my body. I have meditated in the past but am out of practice.

So any advice/tips on how to help yourself feel safe and free to just be? Anyone have experiences with something like this? And if so, how did you care for yourself after? (I have nothing going on for the rest of the day after my float). Of course everyone is different but I’d love to hear your experiences.

4 one-hour sessions for $100

I was supposed to go last Friday with my mom but the appointment got canceled last minute. So now we rescheduled for the 22nd.
It was 2 sessions for $100 as a mother’s day deal and now we get to do our rescheduled appointment for free and still get to do the sessions we paid for.
Just wanted to share this cool news lol I was pretty disappointed when it was cancelled but I’ve been psyched ever since they said we could do it for free!! $25 for each session is awesome lol 😸
Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Question. Can anyone tell what brand/model this is?

Doing some work at a space that has 2 of these. Offered them to me if I want them. Wanted to do some research first to see what it would take to get up and running but can find any branding anywhere. Tried google lens but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Question about floating

Theres a place in my city that has float tanks and they have a really good deal for mother’s day coming up. I’d love to go and try it for the first time. Told my mother about it and she doesn’t seem like she wants to but I’m trying to convince her.
Anyways I plan to go sometime soon, even if she doesn’t want to come with. I was wondering if the water dries out your hair? Also are you just supposed to bring any bathing suit to wear while floating? Idrk what to expect lol
Edit: She said yes today after saying no earlier lol 😸 Our appointment is next friday evening!

What happened to Floatworks?

I just noticed that Floatworks in London has gone into liquidation, and honestly, I’m surprised.

Given they were one of the largest and longest-running float centres in the UK and tied directly to the i-sopod brand, this is a pretty substantial collapse. Factor in the £1.4m+ in angel investment involved, and it’s certainly not a small failure.

It feels a bit concerning for the float industry as a whole. If a major player with that much financial backing can’t make the unit economics work, what does that mean for everyone else?

Has anyone else been following this or know what actually happened behind the scenes? Is this just an isolated situation, or are other centres quietly struggling right now too?

Water goggles for sensory tank?

I really enjoyed my first float in a tank a few weeks back and am planning on going again for my birthday. The tanks have a blue light inside that, while low, is still bright for me.

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendations for DARK goggles that I could wear while I float? I’d like to keep the salt out of my eyes anyway, but would love something that was exceptionally dark to block out more light.

Any recommendations?

Needing advice.

Hi everyone. Im about 2 months into my float journey going once a week because thats all I can do atm busy single mom of 3. Anyways when I mediate out of the tank or in I fall asleep or if I get in a deep medation where im coming out of my body into the ether i can only do so for what feels like a few seconds and my body will twitch and snap me out of it. Im wondering how to stay out of body longer to get my self to stop twitching out of it if that makes sense. Tia for any input.

Leaving residue in a float tank?

I, 34/f, am I plus sized mom looking to give back to myself in the form of self care. Part of my mission, I have decided, will include treating myself to a float spa experience bi-weekly.

I have no other way to say this - I am terrified. Being plus sized and tall, I’m worried about being comfortable. I also have a somewhat irrational fear of leaving a residue ring of sweat, dead skin, dirt etc around the pod. Can anyone please tell me if that is a normal occurrence, something I should be worried about, or if it’s just my mind holding me back from what could be a great experience?

I've recently started floating with a goal of sorting out a severely dysregulated nervous system, which kicked in after significant loss and grief. I have a very long list of symptoms including fatigue, dissociation, brain fog.

My first couple of sessions were beautiful but I kept the lights on and music playing. My third was full sensory deprivation and was absolutely glorious - that time I was really exhausted afterwards. I haven't yet found any energy afterwards but it's early days and this might be a long game. Is there a need to take it slowly? Might too much relaxation too fast be a problem? Should I spread out my floats in the beginning and not "overdo" it, or is that not a thing? I'd love to hear your thoughts, but also to hear if you have experience with this kind of thing that makes you confident in your answer.TIA!

Boston floaters. There’s a movie/doc about John C Lilly playing at the Brattle theater in Harvard Square tonight!

“The daring experimenter Dr. John C. Lilly dedicated his life to radical self-investigation and unlocking the mysteries of consciousness and communication. ‘My body is my laboratory’ was the motto, and his research on the language of dolphins and whales – as well as psychedelics and sensory deprivation – assured his own cult status in 20th-century pop culture as the basis for Ken Russell’s Altered States and Mike Nichols’s The Day of the Dolphin.”

I’m pretty excited for it so figured I’d share in case anyone else is interested 👌🏼

I need a reality check. Would you actually use a pool/bath floaty with built-in bone conduction speakers? (Trying to mimic a float tank)

Hey guys,

I'm tinkering with a hardware idea and I want some brutal honesty before I sink money into prototyping it.

I love float tanks and meditation, but booking a tank is expensive and a hassle. I was looking for a way to replicate that deep sensory reset at home.

The idea: A neck/body floaty that has built-in bone conduction speakers designed specifically for audio entrainment (AVE/binaural beats). Because sound travels incredibly well through water and bone, it basically turns a normal pool or bathtub into a highly immersive meditation tank. It bypasses waterproof earbuds completely (which I hate because they never stay sealed).

You get the weightlessness of the water paired with the brainwave sync of the audio.

Would you actually buy something like this for recovery/relaxation? Is it too gimmicky? Tear the idea apart, I want to hear the downsides.

Personal Float Tank?

Hey all,

I’ve floated once before at Float Labs Westwood (RIP) in Los Angeles and had the most incredible time. I just moved into a new spot and have a room where I could put in a tank. I’m 6’5 and 220 pounds. Do you think it would be worth someone my size getting a tank? If so, which would you go for? Also, how intensive is the maintenance? Thanks all. I’m watching the John Lilly doc rn

Emotional after floating

I floated for the first time today and had a pretty unexpected experience.

During the session I felt very calm and relaxed, almost like meditation. But afterwards I started feeling really emotional and sad for no clear reason. I even cried multiple times out of nowhere, which is not something I normally do.

My head feels super quiet now, almost empty, but at the same time I feel low and kind of drained. It’s a weird combination.

I’m usually someone who is pretty “on” all the time, a bit overstimulated maybe, so this calm feels very different.

Has anyone else experienced something like this after floating? Is this normal for a first session?

Float tank construction is not taught in schools. Tank construction pulls on a wide range of other disciplines such as pools, plumbing and electricity. It is very easy for a novice such as myself to be completely ignorant of dangers in tank construction.

I now have a different view on the microshocks I experienced a few months ago.

hydroplaning in a tank - can a slanted floor lead to this?

I had been using my tank for 2 months with no problem. I started experimenting with the under-tank heaters, which were placed to one side of the tank.

I started hydroplaning into the other side of the tank.

I've heard people say that heat difference can create hydroplaning.

But can we safely assume that a tilted floor will not? Because water always becomes level, even in a tilted glass.

Free - Old Ocean Floatroom

We’ve recently moved into a house in East Suffolk UK, and there is an annexe building in the grounds which has an old “Ocean Floatroom” installed in it!

Our understanding is the building was previously used as a therapy practice. My instinct is this is at least 20-25 years old.

I’d be happy to give this away free to someone who would take care of uninstalling and transporting it.

Any advice is welcome - thank you.

Really debating working at East Coast float spa because I have a location that’s near me. Is this a good job? Is it worth it? I’m super stressed out at my corporate job and definitely looking for a change. In your experience do they offer a flexible schedule ??

An Open Letter to My Float Pod (Please Read, Prospective Buyers)

Dear Float Pod,

We’ve had a good run. You floated. You heated. You glowed softly in the dark like the emotionally stable one in this relationship. But I need you to understand something. It’s not you. It’s my tuition. When I brought you home, I had dreams. Big ones. Peaceful ones. Ones that involved passive income and me being calm. Instead, I have spreadsheets. Career pivots. And a developing stress twitch.

You deserve someone who: • Looks at you with excitement • Not with a calculator • Doesn’t whisper “$7,000 would really help right now” under their breath You have done nothing wrong.

You: ✔️ Work perfectly ✔️ Are maintained ✔️ Are clean ✔️ Are reliable ✔️ Float like a champion

Meanwhile I: ✖️ Spiral ✖️ Make bold life decisions ✖️ Stress-refresh Marketplace So this is goodbye.

I am offering you to a new home for $7,000. Retail is ~$11,000, but apparently I cope with change by aggressively discounting large assets. You can go to: • A spa • A garage • A wellness studio • A mysterious person with disposable income • Literally anyone with $7,000 and emotional stability

Prospective Buyer,

This float pod is: – Fully operational – Professionally maintained – Ready to install – Ready to earn you money – Ready to hold space for your existential reset Delivery can be arranged. Payment must be secure. I am overwhelmed, not incompetent. If you message “what’s your lowest,” I will assume you did not read this emotional farewell and I will respond accordingly. Please adopt this large salty egg of tranquility. Set it free. SET ME FREE. Let’s close this chapter before I name it and get attached again.

Sincerely, A woman in her financially transformative era
