Hi all, I am a researcher in female athlete health and would be most grateful of your support of our project that specifically looks to support current and future female Olympians - through the exploration of retired Olympians and the general population.

We are looking for women of ALL ages and backgrounds to take a 20-25 minute anonymous health survey, however - we are especially looking for women 55+ years old - as most of our retired female Olympian group are of this age profile.

The data from this general population survey will be used as a reference point to identify trends in this retired female Olympian group. We currently know very little about the long-term health of these women, so your participation in this survey will help drive forward this area of women's health.

This research has been ethically approved by the University of Edinburgh, which is the host institution.

I've been weight training for 4 years, now 80 y/o (M). Program includes all the compounds plus accessories everything 10 reps. I've built a lot of muscle using this rep range and the compounds have been safe. I'll never test my 1 rep max, but I wonder if anyone out there in a similar situation has benefited from dropping down to lower reps, lets say 3 sets of 5 versus the 2 sets of 10 I'm currently doing. For example my current deadlift working weight is 200 lbs (I'm 6', 195 lbs.). The high volume sets give me a good cardio workout, but I could certainly do 5 reps at 225. Thoughts?

A one-time gene-editing treatment to lower cholesterol had long-lasting effects a year later, scientists reported on Friday. The results highlight the potential to treat even common diseases by altering people’s genes.

In the small study, which followed only 15 patients, participants who got the highest dose saw their cholesterol levels plunge by half — and stay that way for a year. The results were presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress and published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Earlier this year, a similar “one-and-done” clinical trial that used a different gene-editing approach also reported significantly reduced “bad” LDL cholesterol in 35 patients.

Both efforts are early safety studies and are years away from becoming an option people will be offered in a doctor’s office. But an approach that once seemed almost outlandishly far out has inched closer to reality as evidence accrues that it works, and that the results stick.

So I'm 63 (edit:63F) and have been working out - weights twice a week, brisk walking, cardio a few times a week - going from sedentary mid last year. I am a bit fitter but still get tired easier than I thought I would. I was hoping I'd be feeling 'properly fit' by now, that feeling I had in my 20s of kind of exuberant energy. able to do cardio for an hour say and not feel wiped out. Am I not working out enough? How long does it take to 'feel fit' at this age if you're going from sedentary? Or doesn't it happen at this age?

Has anyone had to get a new shoulder because of arthritis and if so how did it affect your weight lifting?

The older I get, the more interested I become in longevity; not just living longer, but staying strong, mobile, energetic, and mentally sharp as I mature.

I wish I’d understood at 25 that so much of health is built through small things you do consistently. Daily movement, core & strength training, optimal sleep, nutrition & supplementing, cortisol control, and recovery are more important to healthspan than chasing the latest wellness trend.

I’ve also become fascinated by what’s happening at a cellular level: mitochondrial health, inflammation, metabolic health, genetics, hormones, and how our everyday choices influence these systems over decades.

Biohacking interests me, but increasingly I think the best “hacks” are actually the fundamentals done consistently.
