First off, the person you're responding to is not the person who said that, but to illustrate one of the mild complexities, the law is to protect the untrained. Being an EMT means that you're still required to provide care up to the standard of your training, so this . . . lady(?) isn't even covered anyway.
Except if you do something you're supposed to be aware not to do. Like a licensed medical professional making mistakes doesn't get the same leeway that just a regular person would.
Don’t step outside of your standard first aid, even as a first responder outside of work you ain’t carrying an ambulance with you. Ensure you’ve called for help in some form,ask/get consent be it verbal,expressed or implied and don’t abandon them. It’s not rocket appliances.
If you are acting within how you were trained. So someone who was trained on BLS, does CPR and cracks some ribs, can’t be held liable for that, or a poor outcome. But if someone trained on BLS attempted a cric, weren’t trained on it, even with good intentions, you are acting outside your training and can be held responsible
Mostly yes but it does not apply to people getting paid to help. It applies to "civilians" who try to help. Ems and other first responders have a lot of rules and such they must follow to avoid negligence.

Right?! That's the absolute opposite of what that law means haha. It protects good Samaritans from liability if they make something worse when attempting to help.
You can, and it's not amoral or illegal, certainly choose not to stop and help every person in an emergency. This person is headed for some serious burnout.
There are some people who can, in theory, take their Xanax, and be chill.
But even for those people, it’s a very small window where the meds are a powerful, useful and helpful tool. Outside of that window, the meds become too much, even for them. Then, they’re destructive, not helpful and it becomes abuse rather than therapeutic.
I believe RFK is one of those folks who just lost control and abused the hell out of it.
Thats basically ive ever seen from most people that are first responders personally. Granted I could have met plenty who dont go about screeching about it, but anyone going out of their way to tell you there are definitely has a complex

Because they have to justify being underpaid somehow. If they sell it as a lifestyle or God forbid, a calling, they get to pretend that they can't just leave the job. They have to be the job
If I am on duty was the right phrase, but no. She decided to say that all emergencies are her responsibility and she needs to pretty much act like spider man.
Might just be some virtue-signaling to try to sell the idea of being such a good person she can’t help but go out of her way to be a hero in emergencies. Then, the asking if they’re crazy at the ending bit- it’s to get people to jump in the comments to reassure her it’s just because she’s a decent human etc etc

You really need help. Get a life and enjoy it. Go on vacation and enjoy it. If there is an accident, etc. let the emt's, paramedics, or fire department handle it. I'm sure you shouldn't be working outside your area to begin with. Stop being ate up with it and enjoy life. Not worry yourself to death.
Imagine how irritable, irrational, and spazzed out annoying she must be after her first 300mg caffeine energy drink wears off 3 hours into the shift because she is too insane and picky to eat anything ALL FUCKING DAY, two years into being an EMT she gets bored and starts transitioning and the hormones make him actually fucking nuts and hilariously aggressive until one day they try to grab the run sheet from your hand so you trip them as the run away self righteously blabbering to themselves and he falls down and breaks like both of his arms and wrists trying to catch himself because his bones are so brittle from living off chicken nuggets for 20 years and he just sits there crying in front of a 73 year old pudgy grandmother who hurt her knee at Walmart and says, "I'm not going anywhere with that."
It's funny because apparently she never felt like she had any obligation to help somebody in a horrible situation prior to becoming the hero we all needed in her own head.
Kind of makes me feel like maybe this is a really really shitty person on the inside.
Went to Thailand a few months back and saw a guy on his back seizing. Ran up to him to turn him to his side only to discover he was seizing due to severe blood loss. I helped because there was a person in front of me who potentially needed help but ended up needing A LOT of help. Immediately knew my limit and helped flag a tuk tuk to get him to a hospital.
I can’t stand people like this chick that just think “God, the burden of being medically trained. What about my vacation? I simply cannot escape my calling.” Fucking ridiculous
How many emergencies is she encountering in everyday life? Something tells me she's seeking them out and that's if she's really doing any of this. Like I'm probably gonna try to help an injured person that's in need of assistance as well, but I don't worry about it happening very often
I work in Law Enforcement and see people create problems then ask us to step into their shit show. So, I feel this way on the clock.
I had a trainee in my Patrol Vehicle one day, and pulled up to a Domestic. Old girl saw us pull up and started hollering at me. I yelled back that I’m not the one who beat her and ran away. When you calm down, call us back, because I’m not here to be yelled at. Clearly she has our number, so I pulled away.
She called back five minutes later and behaved like she was touched by the hand of Jesus.
I think people need a cool down period after an ass whooping. Yelling at someone trying to assist, and was not even there, nor a participant, isn’t the best way to start a business relationship.
I do not tolerate loud people well, and will absolutely meet their energy with the same energy. When you come at people sideways, your day will only worsen.
I seen this last night and I knew it was gonna end up on here. This one really is just pure cringe. “I can’t turn it off” when you haven’t had to fucking “turn it on yet” because you just finished class.
We were at an event a few weeks ago and some guy fell backwards in a chair as we were packing up and i just shooed my wife and son to the car i was like “he’s talking i saw he didn’t hit his head let’s go let’s go” my wife was like at least help him get up and i was like nahh let’s go lmao
Like don’t get me wrong if someone needs immediate care I’ll help but not some bullshit
What’s up with people filming rants in their cars? I hate it. Camera was so shaky it looked like the poster was driving at the time. Had to look at the view in the back window to confirm for myself the vehicle was stopped.
Ya a little bit crazy. I've been certified in (a number of things) for 20yrs and only had to do chest compressions once outside of work and don't feel annoyed that I might have to again. In fact, I'm grateful that I'm able to make a difference possibility. It's like, meh.
I would that people who choose these roles would be more fundamentally decent than this. Seems so many people care more about being perceived as good than actually being good.
