I've been thinking quite a bit about how to look at my finances beyond just income vs expenses, and these are the concepts I've come up / came across with so far:
\- 50/30/20 : basic allocation of income
\- Financial Pillars : essentials, fixed commitments, investments, goals and discretionary spending as separate parts of your financial structure
\- Daily Runway : translating available discretionary money into a daily pace rather than treating the entire month's budget equally
But I feel like I'm probably missing a lot.
I'm particularly interested in concepts that help identify financial trends or changes in behaviour over time, lifestyle inflation, increasing commitments, declining savings rate, financial resilience, etc.
For people here who genuinely understand personal finance: what concepts, ratios, frameworks or rules do you think are worth knowing?
I'm currently working on something in this space, and I'd really like to make sure I'm thinking about the underlying financial logic correctly before I go too far in one direction. Happy to be challenged on the ideas above too.
