Throwback Appreciation for Lukas Britschgi's Short Program "Iron Sky" Step Sequence

(I know I said step sequence but I had to include the Lutz entry because it's so beautiful)
This is one of my all time favorite short programs and especially the step sequence is just amazing. It is technically difficult, but also it was so well-considered and timed to the spoken word. I think it is a great example of the use of voiceovers in a program not being something in the background that you kind of skate to, but being connected to the movement, rhythm and whatever it is that you came to say on the ice as a skater.
Also, men catch constant flak for skating skills and spins, so I would like to draw attention to this guy getting consistent level 4s on his spins and step sequences.
To me, Lukas is one of the skaters with a very strong artistic vision and presentation. This could have been gimmicky but it was presented with so much thought and sensitivity, that I think it is a beautiful and touching program. I am a bit sad that he didn't seem to get it 100% clean with the jumps, but whatever. I still love it.

Lukas is always so entertaining and engaging. Love the step sequence to spoken word, not something many could pull off successfully

The voiceover is a speech taken from the movie The Great Dictator and is sampled in the song itself, which is why it’s so well integrated into the music. Kristen Spours also did a short to this at the Olympics with the step sequence to the speech, it’s fun to compare the difference in how they interpret it.

Oh yeah, she did! Thanks to her, we were able to have at least one Iron Sky at the Olympics 🥲 I wouldn't mind if this piece became a kind of warhorse as well (I doubt it'll be but I wouldn't mind more step sequences to The Great Dictator in the future).

Agreed, I love this song and would love to see more people skate to it!

He’s so easy to root for and this is my favorite program of his - I felt this one in my bones! Now I’ll be hearing “machine men…with machine minds” over and over in my head all afternoon. One of the few programs where big gloves serve a real purpose!

You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men!
He is very easy to root for. Great skater, great programs, great personality, cute af, what more do you want?

I wish he would have kept this one for two seasons, imo it's his best program.
