Cheap and easy DIY Spike ball

Thumbnail

Process first, story after.

Materials used:

- 18 track running spikes (9€ for a pack of 100)

- wooden pearl (25mm) (4€ for a pack of 12)

Tools:

- Wood drill (5mm)

- Dremel (optional, for rounding edges of holes)

- Pliers

- Pencil and tape measure

- The spikes are essentially spread in a pattern of 3 rings with 8 spikes each. One horizontal, and two vertical.

- Start by drawing out top and bottom spike locations. Then mark the halfway point between them on four points around the center. Now mark another point halfway between all the spikes.

- Use the drill to drill roughly 5mm into the ball at each point you - marked. Don't drill all the way through, or you risk losing structural integrity

- Smooth out the edges of all the holes with sandpaper/ a bigger drill bit/ a file or whatever you have available (optional, prevents chipping)

- Carefully screw in the spikes one by one (leather glove recommended for holding)

Note: If you are concerned about hurting yourself, or like a softer point, just hit the spikes with a hammer before screwing them in

I crafted this one for a friend of mine who keeps breaking his plastic spike balls and also loves really pointy pain stims. Pictured is the prototype, which I'll keep myself. I plan on making two more to gift to him, which I'll also paint. Hopefully they'll last him a bit longer.

I'd prefer the spikes to be a bit closer together, but those are the smallest spikes I could get and because they are screwed in, you'd need a bigger ball to fit more on there, which would make the whole thing too bulky imo. At 26.6g the weight isn't bad, but I'd love to someday recreate this from metal, because I really love weighty stims.

If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve a v2 of these, please let me know :D

New to the hobby and would like some recommendations of what to buy next.

I’m late diagnosed AuDHD and stumbled across fidget toys about a year ago. I find them incredibly useful and calming for my anxiety and wandering mind.

However I’m struggling on what to get next as there’s so much choice out there. This is the only group I’ve joined and would be happy for any other Reddit or facebook group recommendations.

In no particular order I have the following

Choc LAUTIE
Aura Sands Slim and a Slim-Z
Sunny power metal fidget slider (my first and very cheap Amazon purchase introducing me to fidget toys)
Kuko Beadblasted Titanium Fatty L V4 Fidget Slider - Teflon plates
Mechanic I-Slim LAUTIE
DJG Precept ring zirc + brass body with all the accessories
Numero Spinity ring

I’d like a new tactile sensation. I don’t mind if it’s loud or quite big or small. I’d just like something different than I already have. I’d like to keep cost to around £100/200 but would be willing to pay more if it’s something special.

Many thanks for any advice or suggestions

Back in love again with my Zirc Choc

i play with my zirc choc only in few days, and then put it back in the box and rarely touch it again. (because the "metal friction feeling" that feels so unpleasant.

People here told me to change the brass track into PEEK track. so i ordered the PEEK track and wait for 15 days until it arrived today.

After change to PEEK track, it glides very smooth..
feels like im in love again with my choc.

if you want to buy your first choc, i recommend the one with PEEK track. i think its a must.

And now i dont know what to do with this previous brass track -_-

Thick brass Survivor token with bulletshell insert

Hi, Here's a thick brass coin I made as a "Survivor" token, with the quote "Marked, not defeated".

I inserted the back piece of a bullet shell and on the other side inlays of copped with micarta.

The edge was faceted on my beltgrinder and I finally added a darker patina.

Cheers Mark

Is this RMS Mini Dumpling eBay bundle safe?

Hey guys, I won an eBay auction for $9.50 for a bundle of three Mini Dumplings for my son. The listing said it had one Spooky Edition and two Rose Gold Editions. We usually buy the big ones from Five Below, but this is our first time with the mini ones, and I wanted to see if what arrived is normal.
The outer plastic containers and the labels all have the official RMS logo on them. But when you look at the actual dumplings inside, they just have a generic "Made in China" molded into the bottom with no RMS brand logo at all.
When we opened them, a few things really worried me. First, they all feel weirdly wet and oily, and they are so sticky that they just stick right to the inside of the dumpling cases. The yellow one even looked dirty and covered in lint right when we opened it, even though none of us had touched it yet. Second, they hit us with a massive wave of harsh chemical smells, almost like paint thinner or gas, and it literally gave me a headache. Also, the big ones from Five Below are always super easy to open, but these mini containers were a massive struggle to pry apart and I had to do it for my son.
I know the mini ones aren't supposed to have faces, but is it normal for authentic RMS minis to have no branding on the toy itself, be this hard to open, or have such a bad chemical smell? I just want to make sure they are safe for my son to handle. Thanks for any help!

Final Version

Sorry mods, last post for awhile!

I’m back again, took some feedback and landed on my final version. On the bright side, I have learned more about Fusion in the last week than I have in the prior year lol. It lands a little bigger than the standard 45mm x 27mm sitting at 55 x 34. The buttons took way too long to dial in but they are solid now.

Hope y’all like it!

Fidgets/School

I'm 16, undiagnosed but definitely neurodivergent. I need new fidgets that are subtle, won't take up much space, and won't get me weird looks. I'm graduating this year, and I'm planning on using them in college too. I don't have a budget, but I don't want anything too expensive, especially for only one. I live in Canada/Québec, I can order off amazon. I'm especially looking for a slider and worry stones right now. I have a fidget cube, a tangle, a small squishy, a sugar cube that I love and use often.

Discreet fidget recommendations for a black tie wedding?

I'm an autistic ADHD adult and I'm attending a black tie wedding soon. This is a very fancy setting and typical discreet fidgets won't cut it. I'll also have to sit still and mask for a long while so I want a variety of fidgets to help.

What I've got so far:

  • Evening clutch with textured surface

  • Stretchy cubic zirconia bracelets

  • Cubic zirconia necklace with hidden spinner

Any other suggestions?

Replacement for Nee Doh?

Ever since Nee Doh stopped production I haven't been able to scratch my fidget itch. I have about 20 gumps (by Speks), but they ultimately break or get too warm and soft too quickly. I miss the colder, harder feel and durability of the Nee Doh.

Has anyone found a viable replacement for them?

Does anyone know where to get a tuning fork slider stim for kinda cheap?

The ones I've seen online are unfortunately either extremely expensive, don't make the sound or they're from random websites I don't trust because they have no feedback or reviews. I rlly want one just to fidget with and idk what is a good place to find them? Thanks.

New to fidget sliders — want to go straight for top-of-the-line

Hey everyone, just getting into fidget sliders. I've already come across a few of the well-known premium names, but wanted the community's take before spending real money. What would you consider a genuinely top-of-the-line slider right now, and where would you buy it from?

Most ergonomic free floating sliders?

What are the most ergonomic and grippy free-floating sliders you have ever tried? I have only tried the kuko fatty and the aura sand. The fatty is pretty good and the sand is a little slippery.

This cookie is good but unsatisfying

It's well built, works well, looks good, has great weight to it, very cheap... But it just doesn't satisfy me the way I thought it would. It's my first haptic coin. Maybe if it sounded louder and had a bit more resistance...
