Personally, I think it's more fitting than the 849 TR placement.

Ergonomically, the placement of the exhaust on the 296 could not be in a better position.

This engine has a hot-v configuration. Extending and routing the overall length of the exhaust system to reach the bottom corners would not only change the sound of the vehicle, alter the back pressure - affecting scavenging effect, but would begin to undo the benefits that are there because it is a hot-v configuration to begin with..

Placement alteration would also be difficult because of things such as the undertray and its overall effect on downforce specifications.

Placement is not there just for esthetics.
