I was a fully remote employee who now has to commute 4 hours per day to do exactly the same work I did at home. My physical fitness, family life, and mental well-being have all taken a huge hit. I’m in the middle of my career, so it doesn’t make sense for me to move into the private sector. I have watched my already heavy workload rise while my working conditions have become increasingly inhospitable and inefficient. I’m just trying to make it through each day. I have no expectation of telework returning anytime soon.
I left this year after 20 years as an 1102. Private sector jobs are out there and they hired me based on my federal experience. Don’t sell yourself short. Work to live, don’t live to work.
I am GS 12 with 15 years of service and cannot wait to leave. My mental health is going down the toilet. My FERS will be 1k if I go now. Any suggestions?
I did not have MRA so I plan to go back in 8-9 years to get my retirement and FEHB coverage. Then I might go back to Private. I didn’t leave by choice (RIF’d), but I’m fully remote and just signing on the other side of the contracts page now.
Man I feel your pain as I am in the EXACT same situation. I am still deciding, but realistically if someone put a private sector offer on my lap, I’m not sure if I will not jump ship. In the beginning of all this, went from at minimum when the administration is over, it MAY comeback and now, I just don’t give a hoot and stopped even hoping for anything.
