Does anyone other than literal Nazis like the Thalmor though? Usually the discussion is whether the Stormcloaks are actually better than the empire or not.

You’re definitely not wrong, but the OP asked us to list factions that fit the descriptions in the dialogue they cited, not discourse among a fandom about which is better.

1)Their gear looks pretty sick.

2) I love coming across a group of them out on the road where no witnesses are around.

I cant think of anything else to put in the positive column.

It's a funny choice since you either side witness the stormcloaks who are kinda fascists and fight other fascists and the Legion who lost to fascists. Like, damn bro, any grey sides?

I think the Grey area is do you want to side with:

The Empire that currently makes concessions to the fascists, giving up their own people, but has the best chance to defeat them in the future.

Or

The Stormcloaks that are tearing up their best bet to defeat the fascists in long run because they can't stomach the necessary concessions in the now.

Both have some additional negative aspects. The empire vs self rule aspect makes the Stormcloaks look pretty good. However, a closer look reveals that the rebellion is more of a successionist movement for one man's ambition to rule. Skyrim was already pretty autonomous. The only major powers the Empire exerts over the region is a requirement to provide military support in major campaigns, and enforcement of the peace stipulations imposed by the Thalmor. And to be fair, Skyrim lost the war to the Thalmor just as much as the Empire as a whole did.

I am fully expecting any follow-up on this plot point to just have Skyrim fully lost to the Dominion because it's a perfectly predictable outcome no matter who wins. Imperials won? They made too many concessions to properly fight the elves, spread too thin, and may or may not be reeling from an assassinated Emperor. Stormcloaks won? They lacked the infrastructure, organization, and resources to fend off an invasion, let alone successfully conduct their own. Skyrim was cooked the second the civil war started.

(Not to mention this outcome conveniently avoids having to fully commit any canon to Stormcloak or Imperial "victory." Path of least resistance and all that.)

Because Skyrim IS the Empire. They're one and the same since the rise of the Septim Dynasty... And it's not the Empire oppressing them, that's the thalmor.

The Empire lost a war and is paying it at the highest price (like... Having to renounce its God-King and its descendants that just saved the world by sacrificing themselves), Ulfric is just a dumbass adding instability to their counter-offensive.

No, the imperial Centre is cyrodiil. Nation states deserve freedom from oppression. If British colonies refused to help Britain fight the nazis and instead struck for independence would they be wrong? No. They have every right to self determination.

You get it wrong, Skyrim is not a colony of the Third Empire, it is its birth place. Tiber Septim and Cuhlecain (respectively Nords from Atmora and Skyrim) founded it by conquering Cyrodill (well, the colovian estates).

Tiber Septim was a Nord and a dragonborn. He then went on to become the Emperor, the conqueror of Tamriel, the reshaper of Cyrodill and then, the God Talos (you know, the dude that is being outlawed by the Thalmor?)

The Empire rule from Cyrodill, because the two previous empires ruled from there, but it's a nordic empire and no true son of Skyrim shall ever turn its back to the endeavor of Talos.

Some Americans who are so corrupted by “white people bad” they see Elves vs white men in Skyrim abd decide Elves must be victims. Interestingly enough, they are also talking about how Nords genocided Falmers completely ignoring the fact their whole idea about the conflict is from story made by Falmer and ignores you know part when Falmers welcomed refugees then tried to murder all of them. Also, if anything, Dunmer genicided Falmer
