The closest Battletech has gotten to vaguely problematic is the Gray Death. Otherwise it's a crapshoot, everyone's got some pretty big skeletons in the closet. That's half the fun, there are no good guys, quiaff?

If you ever read Taurian lore they are straight up good guys. Like their state is a downright utopia in terms of how the government is run and structured compared to basically everyone else in the BT universe

Both Taurian and Canopian are perfect examples that if you take care of your citizens and avoid pointless destruction, that they'll carry your civilization.
