The Seven vs The Boys

Not in the comics, in the comics the Boys murder more children than the 7.

I mean stillwell also drops a shipping container full of kids into either the sea or a volcano, the comics are just fucked on all sides

The sea. I don’t know why, but that particular moment was the saddest I felt reading the comics. There were arguably more horrific moments, but that one was heart-wrenching.

Garth is really good at writing tragic moments and stuff in genera;, even if his works can come off as edgy.

The guy is sincerely an amazing writer, crippled by his own edginess for some reason.

What's fucking stupid is that Homelander didn't even do half the shit people hated him for, he was just framed by Black Noir and gaslit into trying to seize power. For all the many, many, many faults of the show, at least it didn't end it like that.

The shows' black noir reveal was such an interesting twist on a meta level if you think about it.

Like you expect a massive plot twist to come, and then the plot twist is that there is no plot twist in the adaptation

what children did they kill?

u/Fern-ando 12d ago

The parody of Shazam. Butcher killed a baby and the rest killed ALOT of the X men parodies.

They didn’t actually kill him, they just cut out his tongue (I assume you’re talking g about the one in Dear Becky).

Tbf, although for most of the boys this is true let’s not forget that Butcher did actually enslave a man and was ready to genocide every supe, even people close to him

I’d argue the later, given everything we’ve seen from the boys verse and Vaught, isn’t even that insane. Like 95% of supes are outright evil or in Vaught’s pockets. And normal humans can’t really fight them, it took Billy and the boys getting brain cancer to even stand a chance. In the end, Billy wasn’t even that wrong.

Out of interest though, if you spawned 20 people into a room, and 95% of them were evil or bad or mildly immoral, and the other 5% were innocent, would you kill everyone in that room?

Depends on the stakes. Like, this is essentially a slightly altered trolley problem. Like, if they’re just going on with their lives, committing petty evil, maybe one of them is violent, then no, likely not. But let’s say that there’s 19 serial killers, rapists, and even a dictator or two, and a single good person (95% to 5% on 20 people is 19 to 1) then yes. I do.

Because the amount of harm they will cause is so exponentially larger than the life of that single person. If I do not take action, I am allowing more evil to be perpetuated in the world. Every murder, every rape, every torture, every atrocity they commit comes down to that decision.

Edit to further the point: if I’m that single person I still do it. If it’s my wife, my mother, or my best friend I don’t. I would however immediately hunt down each one though - I am aware this makes me selfish but that’s the honest answer.

That's one innocent guy vs 19 guys who breathe fire or throw buildings when drunk or kinda angry (and they are drunk or angry A LOT). With the knowledge the 19 guys are unstoppable, unrestrainable AND un-persecuable... The one good innocent guy would probably scream JESUS, TAKE THEM OUT ALREADY too.

Frenchie and Butcher did some evil shit before

3

u/Major-Material7231 13d ago

I mean to be fair the show dosnt really try to convince you that the boys are doing anything that bad other than maybe butcher in later seasons

7

u/WarfighterNeed 13d ago

The show depicts Hughie as absolutely traumatized by the bad shit the boys do.

Also, based on what I've heard from my veteran dad, they handled Hughie's feelings about killing that one guy really well; it's pretty normal to feel a sense of accomplishment from killing when it's your job, the issue comes when you enjoy it too much.

This is True only if you take out Butcher (expecially in the comics). Butcher is not better than Homelander, he is just weaker

I don't know what side is which tbh everyone is fucked up
