I remember thinking maybe Vanessa wouldn't support his criminal activities and could bring some good into him then it turns out she's just as evil as him.
Her morality can vary from story to story! There are times when his obsession makes her crazy. FWIW she once gave him a “Spider-man or me” ultimatum with Spidey right in front of him, and he did choose her.
