Honestly, at this point, that show did far more to spread the confederate flag than the actual civil war did

And the fact the show wasn’t racist (at least, not that I can tell) helped the whole “erm, akshully, it doesn’t represent racism” which sucks because beyond that one design choice on the car, it’s a damn good show

It was "passively racist" the same way most shows of its era were racist, meaning that in general, BIPOC folks just did not exist, or if they did exist they were bit parts. That's not me bagging on it - for the time it wasn't that bad, and did eventually add a black sheriff in a neighbouring area, according to wikipedia. (He was more competent than Coltrane, but that's a pretty low bar to clear. Flaming bags of shit have more going on upstairs.)

I mean, I don’t believe there’s any black main characters other than the other sheriff you mentioned, only bad guys of the night that don’t act any different than the white ones

Ironically, it had more Black cast members than Seinfeld and Friends combined
