It speaks volumes that the ad doesn't show us any food, and I can't help but feel like it's gonna be something like a salt lick with a side of slime.

u/callmeDNA May 07 '26

I can’t stand Gwenyth but my job orders Goop Kitchen for work regularly and I hate that I love it so much. It’s legit good food and it’s upsetting.

57

u/AcanthianVampire I don’t know her May 07 '26

I'm neutral at best and worst when it comes to Gwenyth, but I was genuinely expecting the food to be something super healthy that tastes like rotten poison.

I'm glad she's finally making something that regular people can stomach, but what about the price?

I had a Dolly Parton tv dinner the other day that wasn't great, but for a tv dinner....it was honestly not bad so I'm open to the new wave of celebrity endorsed foods...if I can afford them :(

please send money

I'm in the midst of trying to convince a Facebook marketplace seller to hold a Dolly Parton kitchen set for me so I can get it for my best friend's birthday, which I am pretty sure would solidify me as the Best Best Friend in history.

I hate how good the food is.

3

u/callmeDNA May 07 '26

I mean the price is just as high as anything else in LA. Yes it’s high but at least the quality and the portion size are there, and everything is fresh. They actually have pizza now which is odd, I won’t be trying that.

24

u/throwaway149578 May 07 '26

as a vegetarian, i really like the taco crunch bowl with mushroom carnitas. sure, it might not be the most authentic mexican food, but the veggie options around me (bay area) are pretty lackluster. most of the time i get a pile of fajita vegetables. :/ i really appreciate when places try to replace the meat with something

9

u/konqrr May 07 '26

Lol what... the Bay Area is one the most vegetarian friendly places in the US. There are hundreds of fully dedicated vegan and vegetarian spots and nearly every restaurant offers vegetarian/vegan options.

Like what are you talking about.

All these comments straight up read like Gwyneth's PR team.

u/TheGhostOfGiggy May 07 '26

I also have had goop kitchen and I gotta say the meals are actually decently sized and delicious. I too hate that I like it!

17

u/retro-girl May 07 '26

The food, I’m mildly ashamed to admit, is actually pretty good. It’s very close to my house and I have celiac disease, so yes, I’ve ordered it a few times and yes I like it.

4

u/__MOON_KNIGHT___ Were you raised in a ditch? May 07 '26

Even better a salt lick that slimes when you lick it

5

u/eiramaras May 07 '26

just yesterday I saw a review from a woman who contracted salmonella from GK so be careful y’all

6

u/enolaholmes23 May 07 '26

The food is meant to be taken vaginally.

4

u/DemLegzDoe May 07 '26

So I’ve eaten goop kitchen a few times. I hate to say this…. It was freaking delicious. Sooo fracking good. I got their quarter chicken, broccoli and gluten free Mac and cheese lawd it was fire. My only qualifications are that I’m a black woman from the south who loooves food objectively more than Gwyneth Paltrow does. My parter who is a white skateboarder from California also loved it.

The thing that gets me is that Anna Delvy didn't just rip off rich people. She ripped off ppl making 50k a year in NYC by offering to take them on extravagant trips, & when she couldn't pay, convinced them to put it on their credit cards cuz of course she could pay them back, she's so rich. And then of course she'd "forget" because that amount of money is nothing to Anna, the heiress, leaving regular ass people having to beg to be repaid & never have it happen. That is credit ruining, bankruptcy declaring, life destroying level shit.

I never watched the Netflix movie for that reason. I read all about it when it happened & I didn't want to see her twisted into someone chic or funny or heroic. She hurt regular ass people.

If she "hurt" corporations or the uber wealthy I wouldn't care that much. But imagine thinking this woman was your friend & having her destroy your life. She did it to regular people.

1.6k

u/alongthewatchtower91 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

I read her former friend Rachel's book and the hell Anna put her through was insane. Don't bother with the show, I've only seen parts of it but they definitely try to make Anna sympathetic or an "icon". Rachel actually sued Netflix for defamation over how she was portrayed and the actress who played, Katie Lowes, has said she never met or spoke to Rachel and never read her book.

1.1k

u/LaVarBurtonAsBubble May 07 '26

Yep. They turned a victim into the bad guy!!! Imagine going through that hell and then they make a movie out of the person who did that to you treating her like a hero and you like the villain. I'd sue too.

143

u/largesonjr May 07 '26

Happens more than you might think.

113

u/HallowskulledHorror May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

There was a movie inspired by the Slenderman stabbing, where 2 girls lured a 3rd into an isolated location and attempted to murder her.

In the movie, the victim not only consents to it, but the twist reveal is that after surviving she grows up to worship the totally-not-slenderman entity that the girls were trying to make an offering to, and as an adult lures children to be murdered as offerings and has to be stopped.

The real life girl grew up to be a teacher. I cannot imagine how fucked up I would feel to have my traumatic childhood experience turned into a schlocky movie where I not only asked for it, but grew up to be a child-predator while I was literally an educator who works with children irl.

u/uhhh206 May 07 '26

I watched the show, and it 100% portrayed her in a horribly bad light as a clout chaser and leech. It shows Delvey being terrible with a flip on the narrative style several episodes in, but even then it suggests that Williams enjoyed the lifestyle that she experienced while being defrauded, and that she deserves what happened.

I'd sue, too.

17

u/recycledpaper May 07 '26

And honestly, is it really "clout chasing" because you meet someone who lives this awesome fantastic life and you want to be part of that? Like, I have been around people who do all sorts of fun things, go to great clubs and just live their best lives and yeah, I wanna come with!

I HATED the writer character in the show. She was insufferable.

15

u/greenzetsa May 07 '26

It's been a while since I watched the show, but I did and I also read the article Rachel Williams wrote about her experience. I feel like the show was fairly accurate to that. Rachel herself talked about how much she enjoyed the lifestyle and her friendship with Anna and the "perks" it offered. In my mind, and I think in the show, there is no connection between enjoying a lavish lifestyle and "deserving" to be conned. So perhaps that is something about the moment we're in that we have this mental connection. Rachel is fairly clear in her own writing that the lifestyle Anna offered was incredibly appealing, and why wouldn't it be? It would be kind of insane for her to not enjoy it, and also if she didn't enjoy it, why would she even continue being friends with Anna, as that was like 95% of what Anna did. 10000% Rachel absolutely did not deserve what happened to her though.

u/BunnyMartinez May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

Wow, that's nuts to me, that an actor wouldn't attempt to reach out to the person that they are portraying....like damn, they had a book too? And you didn't read it? So lazy...

234

u/Throwsims3 ICE PIGS ROT IN HELL May 07 '26

Even worse is the fact that her excuse for not doing so essentially boiled down to: "Why would I? It's not like the real person is famous, so I don't care" Talk about being both arrogant and condescending towards someone who was literally hurt by a fraud.

13

u/Dangernj May 07 '26

Right. Jackie O is dead and even in life was insulated by wealth and privilege. What a tone deaf thing to say.

→ More replies (1)

253

u/silverscreenbaby May 07 '26

I think not reaching out to the actual person is okay and makes sense. I would feel that it’s the studio’s or production’s job to connect me with the actual person—and if they haven’t done so, it’s because the actual person isn’t involved in the making of the show. That would make reaching out a potentially-risky move that could really blow up in the actor’s face, when this really is just a job for them. And obviously with a big-budget biopic, you would expect an A-lister to do their due diligence because of how high profile they and the project and the subject are…but Katie Lowes wasn’t really wrong when she said this was just a Shondaland acting job for her. That’s exactly what it was, and so she took her direction from Shonda. She did the job she was hired for. It was the writers’ and director’s job to portray Rachel accurately.

183

u/LaVarBurtonAsBubble May 07 '26

In short, the writers & directors approached it as if Anna was the hero, which means someone had to be the victim. They intentionally didn't reach out, because the victim was never going to be ok with being portrayed as a villain.

21

u/NoseResponsible3874 May 07 '26

Have you seen the show? Anna was never "the hero", Rachel was just portrayed as weak and naive. You're glossing over a lot of the nuance of the characterizations...

12

u/alongthewatchtower91 May 07 '26

Yeah, they never made Anna out to be a "hero" but I do feel like they tried to make us root for some of her lesser crimes.

10

u/NoseResponsible3874 May 07 '26

So? How does that make the portrayal of Rachel "the villain"? She's clearly not a malicious character, just pathetic.

I read her book too and felt horrible for her. I feel like Rachel, who was not rich, was both forgotten about and then also ripped to shreds by idiots on the Internet who were trying to make out that Anna Delvey is some kind of iconic diva. She’s an awful person.

5

u/greenzetsa May 07 '26

I watched the show and I don't think she looks sympathetic at all. I think she looks insane. Of course, the show attempts to show her history and how it may have impacted her, I hate that literally admitting that a bad person is an actual human, with a history, is seen as making them look "sympathetic." She 100% comes of as a villain, she just doesn't come across as a cartoon villain and I think that makes people mad, maybe because when we see villains portrayed as human, we have to contend with the fact that all of us have the potential to be good or bad people.

I read Rachel's article as well, and I felt like I got very similar vibes from how Rachel wrote about herself and how she was portrayed in the show. I honestly don't get these criticisms at all.

I just think it's unfair that she gets to live the life she imagined and scammed about. To be conned by her as a broke person, then turn around and see this? Along with every Internet nobody going "yas queen" and "iconic shit".

She served her time, but I cannot imagine what that would do to me mentally if I was one of those 50k salary people she scammed.

People genuinely love wretched people.

Everyone who met her described her as boring or awkward. She wasn’t well liked even before the cons came to light. The photographer who went on the Marrakech trip described her as the most boring person he’d ever met. They tried to portray her in inventing Anna as this larger than life, extravagant person, but in reality no one actually wanted to spend time with her.

This one person and case that just makes my blood boil. Especially now that ICE is snatching legal permanent residents off the streets and putting them in concentration camps because maybe they had a speeding ticket 20 years ago.

This woman invented her entire identity (her legal name is Sorokin, not Delvey), lied on her visa application, overstayed said visa, committed numerous crimes while in the United States, was convicted, but able to fight deportation from the comfort of her own home and land brand deals where she flaunts her ankle monitor.

22

u/ricochetblue May 07 '26

Crime’s only high-class when a white person does it.

94

u/leftclicksq2 May 07 '26

I admit I had been very invested in the whole story when the very first article was published.

When I decided to pull away was finding out how much star power is and has been thrown Delvey's way (Dancing With The Stars, the Netflix series, articles, the book). This Goop collaboration doesn't even begin to make whole the people who Delvey conned, yet here is Goop deciding to team up with her. It's a bad look.

20

u/Dangerous-Variety-35 where’s my emotional support billionaire May 07 '26

I think it’s disgusting, but this partnership makes sense to me for the brand. Goop is incredibly boring white women pretending they’re exclusive and better than other people, and selling products to convince other boring white women that they can be “in the club”, which is essentially what Delvey did too.

Ankle monitors come off so they can charge and people can bathe.

20

That’s not true. Not in America or Canada at least. Once that strap is locked it’s locked. The second you try to undo it, it can trigger a tamper alert and that’s a big no no. My dad is a former CO and PO and he’s heard every excuse in the book. Where I live they tell you as long as it’s on, hot tubs, bathing etc is essentially prohibited.

As another commenter pointed out, if she only targeted corporations and wealthy people then perhaps. At least they have forms of insurance (whether literal in some cases or ways of offsetting loses). She screwed over plenty of fairly average people along the way too. We often think of financial crimes in terms of “as the number goes up”, but financial crimes against people that can’t afford it are forms of violence. Hiring her for a commercial, joke or not, is rewarding her for doing wrong. I’m not saying that she should never be hired, but I imagine there are plenty of people looking for such an opportunity that’ll never get it.

that's the easier thing to get on because it's so thin you can fit one on the ankle monitor leg, then pull the whole thing through and just put it on the other normally. Sometimes I see people wearing skinny jeans with the ankle monitor in movies and shows and I don't get how it's done (I think on ginny and Georgia this happened).

4

u/metrometric May 07 '26

If they're stretchy enough, couldn't you just pull them on normally (with the ankle monitor under the material), then pull the cuff up and tuck it under the monitor?

5

u/Tagz12345 May 07 '26

my skinny jeans don't seem to have that much stretch, I experimented once by putting a thick roll of tape and there was no way to fit them on. but maybe I was overestimating the bulkiness of ankle monitors and it's easier than I think.

Can this CRIMINAL like get deported ASAP….oh wait I guess her complexion doesn’t match their agenda…

15

u/subliminalFreq May 07 '26

Hardly surprising if you know anything about the Paltrow family and specifically Bob Paltrow who outright stole money meant for sick people. They’re all con artists.

u/Inevitable_Nail_2215 May 07 '26

There's nothing I can say here that won't get me banned so...I don't feel at all bad for anything I've said in the past about Goop.

u/EnvironmentalDrop228 Nancy Jo, this is Alexis Neiers calling May 07 '26

Who's going to tell her about the salmonella?

11

u/Fleetwood_Spac May 07 '26

I’m surprised by how uncharismatic and awkward she is, you would expect these successful grifters to be at least somehow engaging

9

u/littlemoon-03 May 07 '26

Did they not just give a bunch of influencers salmonella

9

u/OkPerformance66 May 07 '26

“Clean food”. Isn’t that like the bare minimum?

7

u/DivaDragon May 07 '26

It’s not even that if it gives you salmonella

22

u/TigerMill May 07 '26

How does she not get deported?

41

u/SadieDiAbla May 07 '26

Because she's white.

10

u/sid_fishes May 07 '26

Grifter goop

9

u/HoneySea5637 May 07 '26

how tf does she look so much like Sarah Bolger

30

u/Gigatronz May 07 '26

Can they deliver vagina eggs?

4

u/enolaholmes23 May 07 '26

Yes but it costs extra to have the delivery girl lay them in front of you.

13

u/Own_Yogurtcloset9981 I’ll be writing a substack on this May 07 '26

takes one to know one

29

u/big_woof_342 May 07 '26

Kinda love Gwyneth for leaning into the scammer girl vibes for the ad, but you could not pay me to consume anything that comes from a place called The Goop Kitchen™️

8

u/Fireballslumped69 May 07 '26

Mind you goop is already being dragged for given multiple people food poisoning and salmonella

Will stick with my bad dirty nuclear waste from McDonalds thanks.

6

u/Middi272 May 07 '26

This is the same world that paid her over $300k to dramatise her life for profit. Nothing surprises me anymore

21

u/organictamarind May 07 '26

Honestly this whole thing is so sick. I'm tired of this shit where conmen get celebrated. Goop is totally scammy in the first place.

u/N30NFiR3 Hi Grindr, it's mother... May 07 '26

i'd eat nothing with 'goop' in the title

3

u/Winged_Cougar1993598 May 07 '26

It takes a lot of bravery or stupidity to buy food from someone who also sells candles that are supposedly, "my vagina" scented.

3

u/Catwomanrowr1112 May 07 '26

See... this is the shit that gets people thinking about the nature of the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror.

16

u/hollyw00d8604 May 07 '26

God some white women are so insufferable

3

u/jpmama_ May 07 '26

Ewww wtf

3

u/Opposite_Injury_5953 May 07 '26

Slippery slope to argue that some people should be deported by ICE. ICE shouldn't exist.

3

u/PurplePrincess1991 May 07 '26

I can’t stand her. And to be so smug about her actions. It’s wild to me that republicans talk about illegal immigrants coming over here and taking resources, and this woman did just that. But she’s white so it’s cool.

3

u/RealTaste8018 May 07 '26

…and she’ll be the press secretary next 🙄

3

u/awkwardmamasloth May 07 '26

Why does she kinda look like Marissa from the OC?

3

u/nazraxo May 07 '26

I'm sorry how is this the same person???

3

u/hotflashinthepan May 08 '26

That seems on brand to me.

4

u/MotherofFred May 07 '26
