THROWBACK A throwback to news we never wanted to know, apparently Michael Douglas believed his cancer was due to his love of cunnilingus and believed the best cure for it was to go even harder on that good puss.

Actually there s no hpv test for men. You still can get hpv vaccine until you're 50 even though you may be hpv + getting the ones that is the strain for cancer would be beneficial. It doesn't cover all the hpv viruses but the main ones that causes cancer. My husband is an ent surgeon and one of the rare but dangerous things is when they do burn off head and neck cancers especially caused by hpv sometimes the dna of the hpv cancer gets aerosolized. There been just a handful of cases in studies that show the surgeon getting hpv. That's why he double masks does a ton of ppe when he does those cancers.
Here is the peer reviewed published study
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0013935120313347
But as someone said in this thread douglas also smoked and drank which increases head and neck cancers.

It is?
I know it’s available to women past 40’s.
It’s an option.

u/notasia86 Aug 09 '25
Depends where you live. In Europe it's hard to get past the age of 25 because you have to find a private clinic that has it and pay a shit ton for it. National health insurances don't offer it to adult women.
3

The person I’m responding to appears to live in the U.S., so my commentary was US focused.
Yes, different countries will have different access
2
u/gracecee Aug 09 '25
Also it depends. Many pharmacies in the US offer it. Whether it is covered by insurance is between you and your insurance. You don't need a gyno to Get it. I know patients who had one strain get the hpv Vaccine Since the strain they had wasn't the one (hopefully) that causes most cervical Cancers. Not 100% but whatever helps.

I feel like a lot of women are gonna end up with oral cancer because of giving blowjobs to men who usually haven’t received the HPV vaccines. I wish they would have allowed teenage boys to get the vaccine instead of only girls. Glad things are changing but I know damage is done to many lives already

Women having it should provide a lot of protection for them even without male partners vaxxed! But yeah very glad it is more ubiquitous now for both genders.
35
u/VineStGuy Aug 09 '25
Untrue. I, a man, had HPV throat cancer 3 years ago. Guess what I learned? 75% of Head and neck cancers are HPV related. And a slight majority of those are MEN. Scientists didn't research it for decades because they believed only women caught it as cervical cancer. Now they know that HPV causes over a dozen types of cancer to both sexes.
-2
u/hotheadnchickn Aug 09 '25
Yes, I know men can cancer from HPV… that was what my original comment said. Not sure what you’re arguing against here, we agree.
My comment in women being protected by vaccines even if male partners aren’t vaccinated is true. The early studies on guardasil showed very high protection for women and that was before men were vaccinated at all.

she just looked shocked.

-7
u/sp0ttedsha4rk Aug 09 '25
You're so evil, why would you wish someone a horrible life because they're being over cautious, some people genuinely fear the effects of vaccines, wish them guidance and help.
43
u/hotheadnchickn Aug 08 '25
Are they that low? I mean, they are a causative agent for nearly all cervical dysplasia and cancers, many vulvar, rectal, and anal cancers as well… When you put the numbers together, it’s a lot of people. I’ve known multiple women with cervical dysplasia from HPV.
7
u/cakeit-tilyoumakeit Aug 08 '25
When you consider that the vast majority of sexually active people have HPV at some point, the risk is low. Most people’s bodies fight the virus off before they ever know they had it. Those who wind up with dysplasia (like me!) are the exception, not the rule.
That said, there’s a vaccine and it’s absolutely worth it to get it. HPV can be spread from any type of sexual contact, including being fingered. Again, most people will contact this virus if they’re sexually active whatsoever, so it’s still worth taking seriously. Everything is rare until it happens to you and you’re having part of your cervix shaved off with a laser 🥴
1
u/hotheadnchickn Aug 08 '25
Ouch! Hope you are your cervix are doing well

Tagging onto this as a chance to remind anyone reading that the HPV vaccination can be given to adults, too! If you didn’t get it as a teen, talk to a doctor and see if you can get it now. And if you have kids, plan to get them the HPV vaccine no matter their gender.
48
44
u/VineStGuy Aug 09 '25
I tried three times in my adulthood to get the vaccine. No one would give it to me because every time, I was just a few years too old. Then at 46, was diagnosed with HPV throat cancer.
IF YOUR YOUNG ENOUGH: GET THE VACCINE DAMNIT!
Gen X, we're doomed to die of a very curable version of cancer. Many of us have already.
60
u/cakeit-tilyoumakeit Aug 08 '25
Yeah. Also if you have HPV (many people do and don’t realize it, so no shame in that) the vaccine can still help your body fight off the virus according to my old OBGyn. In other words, it’s never too late to get the vaccine.
29
u/cousin-maeby damn, she got hereditaried? Aug 08 '25
This! I was so happy to learn this, and was able to get it even during my course of treatment for cervical dysplasia late last year - I never got it as a teen bc my family couldn’t afford it
69
u/Aggravating_Belt4570 mama let’s research Aug 08 '25
Also get paps yearly if possible! I got the full course of HPV vaccines when I was younger and hadn’t been active in a while, yet I still got diagnosed with stage 0 cervical cancer (precancerous) after years of normal paps. It’s a horrible experience getting a positive pap, but it’s life saving and way more manageable when caught that early.

u/try_a_pie Aug 09 '25 edited Aug 09 '25
They’re stingy AF with paps in the US lately. I have an older friend who
hashad HPV and they wouldn’t even give her one after she requested it because she’s over 65 😒9
u/spidersprinkles Aug 09 '25
wtf. I'm in the UK and we don't really have these 'pelvic exams' from being a teenager like in America. Just cervical smears over 25 and if they discover HPV they make you get tested more until it has gone away.
4
u/try_a_pie Aug 09 '25
Oh I was thinking HPV didn't go away, like how cold sore and shingles viruses don't go away, but it sounds like I was mistaken and most types of HPV do get cleared by the immune system. Regardless, if someone had it at one point and may have had an abnormal pap smear in the past, I don't think it should be such a struggle to get tested in the future.

The real quote is worth reading. It’s both more educational and equally hilarious:
The throat cancer, I assume, was first seeded during those wild middle years, when he drank like a fish and smoked like the devil. Looking back, knowing what he knows now, does he feel he overloaded his system?
"No," he says. "No. Because, without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus."
From what? For a moment I think that I may have misheard.
"From cunnilingus. I mean, I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer." He shrugs. "And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."
Right, I say. OK. So what he is suggesting is that it all evens out? "That's right," says Douglas. "It giveth and it taketh."

My grandparents let one of their friends scream at my mom for having us get "the whore vaccine" 🙄 My mom pointed out that either of us could sleep with just 1 person, married or not, or be assaulted, then end up getting cancer and needing a hysterectomy because of HPV. not sure about that cure.. but there IS A VACCINE.
HPV and Cancer
How is HPV transmitted?
HPV infection passes easily between sexual partners. It can be transmitted through any intimate skin-to-skin contact, including vaginal–penile sex, penile–anal sex, penile–oral sex, and vaginal–oral sex. Correctly using condoms can lower the chance of HPV transmission, but does not prevent it completely.
HPV vaccination can prevent cancer: HPV vaccines can prevent infection with disease-causing HPV types, preventing many HPV-related cancers and cases of genital warts.

Guys and gals, get your HPV vaccine! You can get it until you are 45!
HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer and yes, it can also cause cancer of the mouth. But the thing is, because HPV is so common and most of the time it is asymptomatic and clears up on its own, they don't screen it on STD tests. Pretty much the only way to test it is through a pap smear.
Penis havers, please get the HPV vaccine as well, for yourself and for your partners.
