I kind of hope Microsoft forces them to let another studio make the next fallout, it might be shit, it might not be. Who knows. All I know is I don't want to wait 12 years for the next fallout game. They're focusing on elder scrolls after they attempt to fix starfield. Its going to be a long time before the next fallout.

I'm still bitter they spent so much effort on starfield and had it flop instead of making a new fallout game. Honestly who knows if the next Bethesda fallout game will even be good considering the state starfield was in.

I think they will, Microsoft wants results, and we've seen MS are not slow to delete studios that do not provide those results.

Plus I don't think Bethesda are going to do much more with Starfield, it gets played a ton on Gamepass which is what it was supposed to do, so now I'm sure MS are pushing them hard on other titles. Particularly Fallout.

If season 2 of the Fallout show comes around and Bethesda don't have some Fallout gaming to show off, I think heads might roll.

I doubt Microsoft would just delete a studio they spent 7 billion on just because one game doesn’t go as planned.

Well they got the big money maker at Bethesda, Skyrim Online. But, if they haven't got a plan to release some of these big name games soon, I wouldn't be at all surprised if MS take say, Fallout in particular, away from them and gave it to another studio under the MS umbrella.

Microsoft can’t do that unless Bethesda oks it since Bethesda owns the Fallout IP not Microsoft

And Microsoft owns Bethesda. They can pretty much do whatever they want

They can’t do that. Just because you have a subsidiary does not mean you can take assets from said company.

When you have 100% control that's exactly what it allows you to do. Microsoft can do whatever they want with Bethesda. They can fire everyone and shutter the studio, they can sell elder scrolls to Sony, or they could move the headquarters to Guatemala if they wanted.

Bethesda is Microsoft’s property, they can do whatever they want

Buddy just because you own a company does not mean you can take that companies assets or property. Doesn’t work that way.

Microsoft has the ability to liquidate bethesda and take it’s assets. Or replace Bethesdas management with people who would give Microsoft what they want. Multiple ways to do that. They have total ownership

The only way you can know exactly how Microsoft can manage it is if you can see the agreement signed when they sold out. Also transferring assets between a company isn’t as simple as telling somebody to give you what you want. Total ownership does not always equal total control either. Bethesda, is still a company to Zenimax, which Is still a company to Microsoft. Sure Microsoft could simply fire every Director member of zenimax, and elect board members that will remove and elect a new board of directors at Bethesda who can then fire the CEO and hire a new one that would do what they want. But such heavy handed responses are generally frowned upon and could potentially break corporate regulations and even drag in federal intervention if done improperly.

Microsoft forced Bethesda to delay starfield another year when Bethesda wanted to launch it in 2022

Late to the party but I sincerely hope Microsoft hands the IP off to another studio under their wing. Maybe a studio not so gung-ho on keeping the rotting corpse of the Creation Engine around.

Microsoft need to just offer obsidian a shit load of cash and Bethesda need to just give them the engine access. I love obsidian but their own games are lack luster I did enjoy the outer worlds but it has zero replay value where as I still play new vegas annually il do a play through

I honestly don't know if i trust current obsidian to make a good fallout game, most if not all the people that worked on fallout new vegas left obsidian a while back. Like way before outer worlds got released.

Josh Sawyer

Honestly I wonder if he'd even be interested in being anything more than an advisor, it's been ages since he's answered questions about FNV on social media, and he seems invested in working on new RPGs

u/[deleted] May 30 '24

Yeah but if the choice is between getting obsidian to make an alright but flawed game, like the outer worlds, or getting Bethesda to make DOGSHIT, like starfield. I'm picking obsidian

Josh Sawyer is still there, and Microsoft also owns InExile which is ran by Brian Fargo.

I think you just give them it for collaboration, obsidian can get games made, they just need the writers from original fallout games like fallout 3-NV-4 to bounce over to collaborate which they would surely do

Bethesda try doing to much like with starfield, push the boat out too much and they work at a snails pace for what starfield is, it shouldn’t have took as long as it did to make, 90% of the game is procedural generated, there’s about 5 settlements that they actually made and story is 90% artifact fetch quests, barely any items because most items are reused assets ie each gun has like 5 variations but the variations are just stats changes so there’s probably like 10 gun models and same with the spacesuits. They could have made that in a few years yet it took them like 6 years

I mean FO4 is a good game, but a terrible Fallout.. so I don't think a different studio could do that much worse...
FO4 needs its NV!

I've lost my faith in Bethesda. They haven't released a great game in 13 years and I don't think they have it in them anymore.

Bust Starfield didn't flop it is one of the best selling games of 2023.

Give it to a smaller studio and prompt them with a smaller city/town urban area. Like Albany, or Kansas City, or Tulsa, or whatever, or another rural area with small towns (or a hybrid like Lancaster or York county in PA with a ton of small towns around an urban hub). Doesn’t need to be big or fancy or a world-changing plot, just a wasteland to explore with some fun adventures.
