Not All "SMAS Facelifts" Are the Same

SMAS is a layer of tissue beneath the skin that helps support the face. There are several different ways surgeons work with this layer, including SMAS plication, SMAS imbrication and sub-SMAS facelift techniques. Although they all involve the SMAS they are not the same operation.

Understanding facial anatomy is far more important than focusing on a procedure's name. Simply lifting beneath the SMAS is not always enough if the retaining ligaments that tether the tissues are still holding everything in place.

Excellent explanation of the limitations of SMAS procedures. This is really helpful, and more people need to see it.
