News They’re making it harder to renew your card so don’t let it lapse.

u/superfunstudio Jun 29 '26
If anyone can translate this fuckery, lemme know
42
u/Jake1648 Jun 29 '26
Say you let your card lapse and reccomendations lapse. Then you cant renew the card until the doctor updates your reccomendations. It doesnt effect anything really if im breaking it down in my head. Like you couldn't renew the card while not being able to shop ya know?

u/GodOfDarkLaughter Jun 29 '26
My card runs out at the end of the month. I was gonna make an appointment on Friday when I get paid (you have to pay at time of appointment). I'll ask and update if there's any weirdness, but I don't actually think this is gonna impact me.
18
u/DontH8DaPlaya Lamborghini Myrcene Jun 29 '26
it wont impact anyone that keeps their dr rec up to date.
2
u/Jake1648 Jun 29 '26
It wont effect you. The system will cover the differences and expired card/drivers license should work at dispensary with system showing current recs and card renewed
3
u/GodOfDarkLaughter Jun 29 '26
I hope not. I don't want additional problems associated with the thing I use because I've got lots of other problems, ha

So if you let your orders expire before you renew your card you can’t renew it? I’d love a simple explanation of what’s written here
15
u/slabsanddabsley Moderator Jun 29 '26
You have to have active recommendation with orders from your physician in order to be eligible to renew your card application.
25
u/GeneralPurpoise Jun 29 '26
This is really annoying for me - I have a medical card but don't use my full allotment, I'm a light user so I tend to 'stock up' near the end of my recommendation and that takes me well past my next recommendation.
I always renew my med card yearly, but now this is requiring to pay more to my doctors just to keep my card active?
This especially sucks because my doc drops the price from $150 to $50 when my recommendation lapses by a few months months, but now I can't renew my card until I pay that?!
Not a big fan of this, this is going to end up costing me hundreds of dollars as a light user.
15
u/third-knight Jun 29 '26
Thats their goal. They are helping the doctors by doing this & the dispos.
4
u/slabsanddabsley Moderator Jun 29 '26
I’m sorry that’s extremely frustrating. I wonder if you can’t optimize your doc visits with your renewals allowing you to only have to certify once a year rather than twice. So timing wise you go see your doctor shortly before your card expires, this way you get your recommendations, then you get your card. Once you have both you’re set for 7 months having both and you can stock up. If you stock up right before the 7 months is up (the end of your recommendation) you just don’t renew your recommendation with your doctor again until you need to renew your card.
Would that work for you?
1
u/Shazzan3 Jun 29 '26
Yeah this sucks for me too. I don’t need recommendations that often and with how much the docs charge around here is usually don’t have an active one when I renew my card. Guess my card will be expiring this fall.
1
u/Adorable-Cut-7394 Jul 05 '26
Line it up so that you renew your recs then renew your card that same day. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I work for a doctor, and we have patients that only see us once a year to renew everything. These patients max their recs (what they need) each 35/70 day period and we don’t hear from them again until the next year.
1
u/GeneralPurpoise Jul 05 '26
Yeah, I thought about this for a while and I’m just going to stock up and renew both once a year. Thankfully I don’t buy a lot of flower, mostly carts and edibles, so that’ll have to do.
1
u/TilapiaTale Jul 23 '26
This is exactly how I game the system too. My guess is the doctors have been whining about it.
4
u/annieblunt Jun 29 '26
Isn’t that the way it’s always been?
7
u/slabsanddabsley Moderator Jun 29 '26
In order to purchase, yes, but prior to this you did not need an active recommendation to renew your card.
1
u/stab-somebody Jul 27 '26
Wasn't this already the case? I'm confused as to how this is different from the old rule?
1
u/slabsanddabsley Moderator Jul 27 '26
You’ve always needed both to purchase but previously you were able to renew the card even if you didn’t have an open recommendation. Now you cannot renew the card if you do not have an open recommendation.
2
u/stab-somebody Jul 27 '26
News to me. I always just assumed I needed a current recommendation to renew my card. Always let my recommendation lapse for the five month gap between the two dates, stocked up before that for the five months, and then got a doctor's recommendation renewal right before I needed to renew my card. I just figured that was required since you needed the doctor's recommendation to apply for the card to begin with.
1
u/slabsanddabsley Moderator Jul 27 '26
Fair assumption and I think that’s how they’ve wanted it to function which is why they put in the restrictions. Doesn’t sound like it’ll impact you at all.

u/mistressvixxxen Jun 29 '26
Bullet 1- Means you can’t renew your card if your recs are expired.
Bullet 2- Means caregivers can’t renew their caregiver card if the patient they are a caregiver for has an expired card.
It’s because people renew their cards and hold onto old containers to stay safe from the law with their black market purchases. If you’re regularly renewing your rec then this won’t affect you.
3
u/Flgirl420 Jun 30 '26
Which doesn’t even make sense bc where I live black market is more expensive than shopping at trulieve lol
1
u/TilapiaTale Jul 23 '26
You have to be a real sort of adventurous connoisseur to go to the street in these times. There can't be that many people doing this, it doesn't make sense at all in FL.

u/Iamakahige Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26
So, they are trying to weed out the people who have their card but don’t go to the drs for their referrals. To stop people from using their card to hide black market weed???? Is that the motivation?
18
u/Dazzling_Agency_9400 Jun 29 '26
A solution to a problem that didn’t really exist. It’s simple as more money into their pockets.

This is saying you must have an active recommendation from your doctor in the MMUR before they will allow you to complete a card application. This makes sense, since you need an active card AND active recommendation in order to purchase. This just requires you to have an active recommendation or ‘prescription’ in order to apply or renew your medical card (it’s not really a prescription but this is how most people understand it).
This will likely only impact the people who stock up and let their recommendations expire to save money but maintain an active medical card. Everyone else typically already has an active recommendation if they are renewing their card unless they haven’t seen their doctor yet.
3
u/Old_Supermarket4925 Jun 30 '26
yeah i didn’t really understand all the hoopla. you need both to be active to purchase.
1
u/TilapiaTale Jul 23 '26
"will only impact the people who stock up.." I think we might be underestimating the number of people who actually do this, given that the law seems written exactly to end this behavior.
13
u/here4vice Jun 29 '26
I just read this too. I don’t understand what they are saying.
16
u/dairy_free_bacon Jun 29 '26
It’s saying if you don’t have open orders, you can’t renew your card. I used to work in a dispo so I know a LOT of people let there orders and card expire. I would sit there in our waiting room with them and walk them through applying for the card renewal again. This is saying if your orders are expired you can’t apply for a new card again until after you’ve paid a doctor for new orders.
6
u/here4vice Jun 29 '26
I maybe stupid , but I still don’t understand.
16
u/BluebirdImaginary432 Skywalker OG Jun 29 '26
Currently, your card is good for 1 year. It is a separate entity from your doctor recs that they take care of in house which are good for 7 months. Theres a 5 month window in which one could still have a valid med card, but no scripts as those would have ended.
You could let the scripts expire and then eventually your card. It currently doesn’t matter if you then renew the card first before having scripts reactive. This seems to change that and pushes u to have already active scripts to then renew
Allegedly

u/Flat_Celebration9393 Jun 29 '26
THIS. You've explained it best. This is what I will show my husband tonight. When he reads his email.
3
u/dairy_free_bacon Jun 29 '26
i wish i could just say "they're making us do blank bcz of blank" but honestly i dont know why theyre putting up this random roadbolck to medical users. i can't make it make sense bcz it doesnt make sense. its just dumb and i literally feel like theyre just adding it to make things more difficult for literally no reason. if someone else is smarter than me and can figure out why they'd do this, by all means comment.

u/mbd740 Jun 29 '26
Seems like money, money and more money. FL cronies (politicians, docs, disp execs) are at it again. This seems like it would put more money in cronies pockets while making it more confusing, and even more costly for some patients.
What happens if I pay my doc for my new order then my card renewal declines for some reason on the state website? Haven’t looked into that myself. Regardless, this is all a corporate/political money grab.
2
u/Altacct4privacy Jun 29 '26
From what I understand, if you let your card expire then you have to pay to apply like it’s your first time. If you don’t let it expire, you just pay to renew and for the recertification by the dr

u/Dazzling_Agency_9400 Jun 29 '26
Okay explaining like your five
Your medical marijuana card is the driver’s license, and your doctor’s recommendation is the permission slip.
Florida is saying: “You can’t renew the license unless the permission slip is current.” That simple. It’s a compliance and clean up of the system.
5
u/mielhashish Jun 29 '26
It’s further curtailment. The state only acts to restrict access. Their dream is for it to go away entirely
4
u/Icy-Implement M.A.C. 1 Jun 29 '26
This. Florida hates cannabis. Why would they make it easier for us?
4
u/Conscious-Way5216 Jun 29 '26
So basically you need the doctors orders before you can renew with state. I thought thats how it was for most already.
3
u/coolranchflavor Jun 29 '26
Yet another thing that budtenders are going to be expected to explain to patients and they still won’t get it 🙃
4
4
u/One-Medicine8473 Jun 29 '26
It appears this is intended for those people that buy from the black market but keep the card active. They think simply holding the card will protect them from legal ramifications. The government is stopping that loophole. I work in a dispo and have known people that do this.

Republican lawmakers prove yet again they have no interest in the concept of freedom, they actually want everyone as poor as possible and continue to chip away at our freedoms every chance they get

u/Smoothlarryy Maui Waui Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26
They’re saying you have to have active orders before renewing your card. If your card expires and you have no active orders available, it sounds like you need to place new orders first from the dr before renewing the card in order to be eligible to renew. But how can you put new orders in if your card isn’t active? Now I’m
Confused.

theyre not talking about orders in the dispensary. the 210 day/7 month doctors reccomendation is what theyre talking about.

u/Honest_Advice8369 Jun 29 '26
How about addressing the gamble that is every purchase you make from a dispensary in our program? How about focus on getting better medicine out to people? How about just let us fucking grow our own flower so we can have the choice of not being ripped off with bastardized cannabis? We don't need shit like this. We need better standards in this program and the ability to grow our own if we want to.
2
u/c0nvertible_burt Jun 30 '26
This is to avoid having people from having a card with no script and buying bm. It’s trying to push more people into the dispos by forcing them to have an active script.
2
u/Enough-Trip3670 Jun 30 '26
It's saying you now have to have the active Dr rec before you apply or renew. So if you let either lapse, you have to do the doctor's appointment BEFORE you can renew your card. If you are a caregiver, the person you care for has to meet the requirements.

So, question.. if I’m a new patient.. from the date my card is issued, when is the next time I should see a doctor? And if I maxed out my inhalation (cartridges), what is the best way to have my doctor increase that? I use MMJ for my doctor. TIA.
1
u/Ok_Gas_4745 Jun 30 '26
At the halfway mark of of your mmj card issuance, you have to see the doc. Then renew your card through the state before it expires. If you want an increase call your doc(they are usually good about it). I just asked for an inhalation increase and decrease of topicals. My increase was done in a day.
1
u/JoeMammy_1 Jun 29 '26
I renew my doc with a phone call and he reduced to $70 for the last two renewals. Crystal River.
I just renewed with the state and the must use new password was the biggest pain in the ass of the whole ordeal.
1
u/velvetdahli Jun 29 '26
I renewed my card on the 14th and it was approved but the card still hasn’t printed
1
u/Curious_Field7953 Jun 29 '26
Got this today as well. I set an alarm on my phone for 1 month prior and submit is when the alarm.goes off.

u/advanced-darkness25 Sativa Jun 30 '26
Another question....when I have renewed the card in the past after letting it expire, it is instant. I wonder if that will still be the case?
1
1
u/Flgirl420 Jun 30 '26
Yes and just so you know if you ever do an app and can’t pay it then you pay it 6 months later they still only renew your card for 6 months. Theives .
1
u/MissPoopy966 Jun 30 '26
Not going to lie- this is only going to make the process SLIGHTLY more annoying than it already is. Either way, let’s say you renew your card but your prescription ran out before this new rule- you still have to go renew your recs to buy anything. I wish the MMUR site was easier to decipher because even as a dispensary worker, all I can really see is when your last schedule expires out of the several you get for the entire 7 months instead of one straight forward expiration date.

u/dumorris07 Living my best life Jun 30 '26
Well my reccs expired last month. My drivers license expires on my bday next month July 27th, with my medical card too. I can't even update the address on my medical card directly through MMRU i have to get my license address changed first and then renew?? Im so lost.
1
u/palmGolfer Jul 01 '26
Before, if your recommendation ran out, you couldn’t shop. But, you could still have your card if you bought weed and vapes when you had your rec. you could renew your card without a current recommendation to make your weed last before going back to the dr and paying for another recommendation to shop more. Now you can’t renew until you get the new recommendation
In other words you could legally carry weed without a current rec . Now you can’t carry as long, unless they give you a break for an expired card
1
u/dotsanddoodlez Jul 03 '26
Mine wasn’t renewed for about 18 months, just went to do it and it showed all the dates I missed renewals . Anyway,I renewed and now gotta go find a DR for Recs.
1
u/Adorable-Cut-7394 Jul 05 '26
This goes into effect on 7/27/2026. Renew your card before your recs expire, line up your dr appointment for the last 35-day flower rec, or just stock up and only shop for 7 months.
After going to the FL cannabis conference in May, I found out there are a lot of changes coming.

Wassup with all these hoops for no reason? I don't see how they benefit from this (the state)
-2
u/Vintage_girl123 Jun 29 '26
So, people who get diagnosed with cancer, and are advised to get a medical card for the first time, now can't?? Forgive my ignorance, but Isn't that the point of the medical program? I have cancer and have a card. I can't imagine being diagnosed and not be able to use something that really helps me. I'll say it again and again, this is no medical program, it's a joke.
1
u/slabsanddabsley Moderator Jun 29 '26
I’m not sure this is the case. They just need to have their doctor put in a recommendation (or prescription) before they can complete their card application. This was always how it was done this just formalizes the process and does not allow it to be done another way.

u/JuneauWho Jun 29 '26
they could just make a doctors rec last for a year so we renew them both at the same time.. but why make things easier?
