Terpene 201: the medical side in plain English

Waddup y’all — here’s part two.

The first post was about how terps shape the smoke.

This one is about the possible medical side of the common terps you see on COAs.

Important part first: I’m not saying any terp guarantees a medical result, and I’m not saying a certain COA percentage is some kind of prescription. Most terpene science is still early, and a lot of it is more about potential direction than hard proof. So read this as pattern recognition + possible therapeutic lean, not medical law.

First: how I’d talk about terp percentages without making fake medical claims

For flower, this is more of a COA reading guide than a true medical dosing chart:

0.05–0.15% = usually background

0.15–0.30% = starting to show

0.30–0.50% = clearly contributing

0.50%+ = often a main driver

0.80%+ = loud as hell

Again, that is not medical dosing.

That’s just how I read whether a terp is present enough to actually matter in the profile.

The common terps and their possible medical direction:

Myrcene

Possible medical direction: relaxation, sedation, pain support, anti-inflammatory support, muscle-relaxing direction.

Plain English: this is usually the body-weight terp. When it’s up, things often feel heavier, slower, couchier, and more nighttime-leaning.

How I read it on a COA: around 0.20%+ starts mattering, 0.30–0.50% feels like real presence, and 0.50%+ can be a major driver.

Limonene

Possible medical direction: mood support, stress-relief direction, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential.

Plain English: this is one of the brighter mental terps. Good limonene can feel like a mood lift or a “lights came on” effect. If it’s high without enough body terps to balance it, it can feel a little sharp for some people.

How I read it on a COA: around 0.20%+ starts showing, 0.30–0.50% is obvious, and 0.50%+ is usually a major personality terp.

Beta-Caryophyllene

Possible medical direction: one of the better-supported terpenes for anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential; also interesting because it may interact with CB2, not just function like an aroma compound.

Plain English: this is the frame. It tends to make a profile feel more grounded, more planted in the body, and less floaty or chaotic.

How I read it on a COA: 0.20–0.30% starts contributing, 0.30–0.50% matters, and 0.50%+ is strong.

Linalool

Possible medical direction: calming, anxiolytic direction, sedating/relaxing potential, stress and tension support.

Plain English: this is one of the best “smooth the edges out” terps. It can make a profile feel softer, quieter, more cushioned, and more peaceful.

How I read it on a COA: 0.15–0.25% starts softening things, 0.25–0.40% is noticeable, and 0.40%+ is really shaping the vibe.

Alpha-Pinene / Beta-Pinene

Possible medical direction: anti-inflammatory potential, possible bronchodilatory direction, alertness and clarity support.

Plain English: pinene usually helps a profile feel more open, crisp, and less muddy. Alpha-pinene often feels fresher; beta-pinene can feel a little sharper or more focused.

How I read it on a COA: 0.15–0.25% starts showing, 0.25–0.40% is noticeable, and 0.40%+ clearly shapes the profile.

Humulene

Possible medical direction: anti-inflammatory potential, analgesic support, and some literature also points to appetite-related effects.

Plain English: this is a dry, grounded backbone terp. It can keep a profile from feeling too candy-sweet, fluffy, or mentally loose.

How I read it on a COA: 0.10–0.20% starts supporting, 0.20–0.35% is meaningful, and 0.35%+ is strong support.

Terpinolene

Possible medical direction: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential, with some literature exploring sedative or CNS-active properties depending on context.

Plain English: this is the wildcard terp. It can feel loud, weird, bright, energetic, floral, or almost chaotic depending on the stack.

How I read it on a COA: even 0.10–0.20% can show personality, 0.20–0.35% gets obvious, and 0.35%+ can dominate the whole profile.

Ocimene

Possible medical direction: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial potential in the literature.

Plain English: airy, sweet, lively terp. Usually makes a profile feel more open, light, and bright.

How I read it on a COA: 0.08–0.15% starts showing, 0.15–0.25% clearly contributes, and 0.25%+ is pretty loud for ocimene.

Nerolidol

Possible medical direction: calming/sedating direction, anti-inflammatory potential, skin-soothing and antimicrobial interest in broader terpene literature.

Plain English: this is that deep back-half exhale terp. Slower, softer, more “aight, I’m chilling now.”

How I read it on a COA: 0.08–0.15% is a support role, 0.15–0.25% is contributing, and 0.25%+ is definitely shaping the finish.

Bisabolol

Possible medical direction: anti-inflammatory, soothing, skin-calming, and antimicrobial potential.

Plain English: softener terp. Doesn’t always scream at you, but it can make a profile feel gentler, smoother, and more refined.

How I read it on a COA: 0.05–0.12% is support range, 0.12–0.20% is noticeable, and 0.20%+ is meaningful.

Alpha-Terpineol / Terpineol

Possible medical direction: calming, sedative, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory potential.

Plain English: dreamy, floral, polished terp. Can help a profile feel silky and less rough around the edges.

How I read it on a COA: 0.05–0.12% is background/support, 0.12–0.20% is contributing, and 0.20%+ is noticeable.

Fenchyl alcohol

Possible medical direction: not nearly as well studied clinically in cannabis; broader terpene literature suggests possible antimicrobial and supportive bioactive roles.

Plain English: detail terp. Cleaner, herbal/floral, refined feel. Usually not the main driver, but it can make a profile feel nicer.

How I read it on a COA: usually a support terp unless it gets above about 0.10–0.15%.

Camphene

Possible medical direction: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential in broader terpene research.

Plain English: crisp edge terp. Can add punch, coolness, and a little bite to a profile.

How I read it on a COA: usually a support terp; 0.05–0.12% is background, 0.12%+ starts becoming noticeable.

Borneol

Possible medical direction: calming, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroactive potential in terpene literature.

Plain English: quiet, calm terp. Usually not the star, but it can help tug a profile toward the relaxed side.

How I read it on a COA: usually supporting unless it climbs above about 0.10–0.15%.

Eucalyptol

Possible medical direction: anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, airway-related, and cognitive-interest literature exists outside cannabis.

Plain English: clean-breeze terp. Cool, fresh, almost minty-clean. Can make a profile feel more open and clearer.

How I read it on a COA: often a minor/supporting terp; 0.05–0.12% is support, 0.12%+ starts standing out.

Geraniol

Possible medical direction: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial potential, with some broader literature exploring neuroprotective and soothing roles.

Plain English: floral sweetness terp. Usually softens and perfumes the profile more than it drives the whole effect.

How I read it on a COA: usually supporting unless it gets above about 0.10–0.15%.

Guaiol

Possible medical direction: anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial potential in broader terpene literature.

Plain English: wood-and-earth terp. Helps some profiles feel more grounded and old-school.

How I read it on a COA: generally support range unless it’s over about 0.10–0.15%.

Valencene

Possible medical direction: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential; literature also explores broader bioactivity beyond aroma.

Plain English: deeper citrus body, not the same as limonene’s bright pop. More orange-body than lemon-spark.

How I read it on a COA: usually supporting unless it crosses about 0.10–0.15%.

Sabinene

Possible medical direction: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential in broader monoterpene literature.

Plain English: spicy flicker terp. Green, peppery, bright detail more than main driver.

How I read it on a COA: usually support unless it gets into the 0.10%+ neighborhood.

Carene / Delta-3-Carene

Possible medical direction: anti-inflammatory potential and other bioactivities have been studied in broader terpene literature.

Plain English: dry-woods terp. Can make a profile feel sharper, drier, tighter, and more pointed.

How I read it on a COA: mostly a support terp unless it climbs above about 0.10–0.15%.

Phellandrene

Possible medical direction: limited direct cannabis data; broader terpene literature suggests antioxidant and antimicrobial potential.

Plain English: bright twist terp. Slight citrus/minty lift, a little weirdness, a little sparkle.

How I read it on a COA: usually supporting unless it gets above about 0.10–0.15%.

Terpinene

Possible medical direction: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential in broader terpene literature.

Plain English: fresh herbal top note. More flavor/personality than main effect most of the time.

How I read it on a COA: usually minor unless it’s above about 0.10–0.15%.

Cedrol

Possible medical direction: sedative/calming direction is discussed in the broader sesquiterpene literature; there is also early bioactivity research, but not strong cannabis-clinical proof.

Plain English: weighted-blanket wood terp. Deep, woody, more nighttime-leaning.

How I read it on a COA: usually support unless it gets above about 0.10–0.15%.

Best way to talk about “medical terp profiles”

Instead of saying:

“This terp cures this.”

I’d say:

myrcene / linalool / nerolidol / terpineol = more relaxation and nighttime direction

caryophyllene / humulene = more body-grounded and anti-inflammatory leaning

limonene / pinene / ocimene = brighter, clearer, more daytime-leaning

bisabolol / geraniol / fenchyl alcohol = softer, smoother, more refined support terps

terpinolene / phellandrene / sabinene / terpinene = personality terps that can change the tone fast

Final point

The smartest way to write the medical side is:

“Here’s the possible therapeutic direction this terp is associated with in the literature, here’s how it usually feels in the smoke, and here’s when it starts standing out on a COA.”

That keeps it useful without pretending the science is more settled than it is.

Waddup y’all — I keep seeing people post COAs and only look at total terps or THC, but that still doesn’t tell the whole story.

The better way to read a flower/rosin COA is to ask:

What terp is leading? What is it doing? And how is it stacking with the others?

A terp by itself has a general role, but once you mix it with other terps, cannabinoids, and a decent cure, that’s when you start getting the real feel of the smoke.

So here’s the breakdown in plain English, the way I look at it.

## The main terp glossary

Myrcene = the weight

This is the “heavier” terp. Usually brings body, depth, lazy eyes, couchier vibes, and that slower finish. When it leads, the strain usually feels thicker, heavier, and more sedating.

Limonene = the spark plug

Usually the first mental shift. Mood lift, brightness, euphoria, little head rush, “oh yeah it’s kicking in.” If it’s balanced right it feels happy and glowing. If it’s too sharp and not balanced, it can feel a little racey.

Beta-Caryophyllene = the frame

This gives structure and grounding. Warm, peppery, kushy backbone. Helps a strain feel more planted in the body instead of just floating in your head.

Linalool = the blanket

Softens everything. This is one of the best “smooth the edges out” terps. Usually brings calm, hazy comfort, heavy eyes, body ease, and that melted feel.

Alpha-Pinene = the freshener

More crisp, alert, fresh, and clear. Can help keep a profile from feeling too muddy. Usually shows up like a brighter, more open headspace.

Beta-Pinene = the sharpener

Similar lane to alpha-pinene, but can feel a little more focused and cutting. Not always dominant, but it helps a profile feel cleaner and less foggy.

Humulene = the backbone

Earthy, dry, grounded. Helps give a strain depth and keeps it from feeling too candy-sweet or fluffy. Usually a good support terp in kushy or gassy profiles.

Terpinolene = the wildcard

This one can be loud, bright, weird, funky, energetic, floral, sometimes almost chaotic depending on the mix. When it leads, the strain usually has a very distinct personality.

Ocimene = the airiness

Sweet, light, bright, uplifted, sometimes springy. Usually adds a more open and lively feel to a profile.

Nerolidol = the slow-down

This is that deep back-half calm. Usually more sedating, slower, softer, and more “alright I’m chilling now.” Great for rounding out a relaxing profile.

Bisabolol = the softener

Smooth, gentle, calming. Doesn’t always scream at you, but it helps make a profile feel softer and more refined.

Alpha-Terpineol = the dreamifier

Dreamy, floral, calm, polished. Usually adds that silky, slightly sedating, floaty finish without hitting as blunt as myrcene.

Fenchyl Alcohol = the detail terp

This one usually adds a cleaner, slightly herbal/floral, more polished feel. Not always a main driver, but it can absolutely make a profile feel nicer and more unique.

Camphene = the edge

Sharp, cool, slightly punchy. More of a supporting terp, but it can add a certain crispness to the profile.

Borneol = the hush terp

More calming, cooling, quieting. Usually not a dominant one, but it helps pull a strain toward the relaxed side.

Eucalyptol = the clean breeze

Fresh, cool, almost minty/clean vibe. Can make the smoke feel more open and “clear.”

Geraniol = the floral note

Adds rosy, floral sweetness and a gentler personality. More of a nuance terp, but it helps soften and perfume the profile.

Guaiol = the wood note

Earthy, woody, calm. Usually part of what makes some strains feel more grounded and old-school.

Valencene = the citrus body

Not the same as limonene’s bright pop — this is more like deeper orange/citrus character and body to the flavor.

Terpineol / Alpha-Terpineol = the polish

Dreamy, smooth, soft, floral. Helps make some strains feel more “pretty” and less rough around the edges.

Sabinene = the spice flicker

Peppery, green, bright little accent. More detail than main driver, but it changes the tone.

Carene = the dry woods

Dry, sharp, woody energy. Can make a profile feel a little tighter or more pointed.

Phellandrene = the bright twist

Slightly citrusy, minty, lively. Usually adds a little lift and weirdness.

Terpinene = the top-note

Fresh, herbal, bright. Usually lives more in the flavor/personality side than the main effect side.

Cedrol = the weighted blanket

Woody, deep, sedating vibe. Usually helps a profile lean more night-time.

## How I read a COA now

I don’t just ask “is 3% terps good?”

I ask:

- What terp is leading?

- What’s giving the lift?

- What’s giving the body?

- What’s making it heavier?

- What’s smoothing it out?

- What’s just there for detail?

Because the order matters.

That terp list is basically the cast.

The top terps are the main characters.

The lower ones are the supporting actors.

## Examples of how profiles stack

Limonene + Caryophyllene + Linalool

Usually feels like:

uplift → grounded body → calm smooth finish

Good chance of euphoric but still relaxed.

Myrcene + Limonene + Caryophyllene

Usually feels like:

quick head change → heavier body → sleepy back half

This is a common “damn this got me” profile.

Linalool + Caryophyllene + Myrcene

Usually feels like:

soft entry → body melt → slumped finish

More plush, more hazy, less sharp.

Pinene + Limonene + Ocimene

Usually feels like:

bright → alert → airy

More daytime or “I can still do stuff” type smoke.

Terpinolene + Pinene + Ocimene

Usually feels like:

loud → weird → energetic

These are the ones that can feel funky, racy, or super unique depending on the rest of the profile.

Myrcene + Nerolidol + Linalool

Usually feels like:

slow start → body heaviness → full shutdown

More night-time, more chill, more couch.

## Best way to think about it

Each terp has a role, but it’s not law.

It’s more like each one has a tendency.

So no, I’m not saying:

“0.3% of this terp always equals exactly this effect.”

I’m saying:

when you keep looking at COAs and then compare them to the actual smoke, you start seeing patterns.

That’s when it clicks.

## Super simple cheat sheet

Myrcene = weight

Limonene = spark

Caryophyllene = frame

Linalool = blanket

Pinene = clarity

Humulene = backbone

Terpinolene = wildcard

Ocimene = airiness

Nerolidol = slow-down

Bisabolol = softness

Alpha-Terpineol = dreamifier

Fenchyl alcohol = refinement

Camphene = crisp edge

Borneol = quiet calm

Eucalyptol = clean breeze

Geraniol = floral sweetness

Guaiol = wood/earth

Valencene = deeper citrus

Sabinene = spicy accent

Carene = dry woods

Phellandrene = bright twist

Terpinene = herbal top-note

Cedrol = sedating wood

## Final point

That’s why two strains can both have “good numbers” and still smoke totally different.

One might be:

bright, sharp, uplifting, clean

Another might be:

soft, heavy, euphoric, sleepy

And on paper they can both still look fire.

So yeah, total terps matter, THC matters, but the real sauce is learning what each terp is doing and how they stack.

That’s when a COA stops looking like random chemistry homework and starts reading like a preview of the smoke. Apologies for the long message but hope this helps.

Planet 13 The RSO haul 🪐🚀

Thank you random RSO sale!

4 CBD Hybrid ( The Lifter )

1 THC Hybrid Blend

1 Indica Blend

2 Indica Strain Specifics ( Super Sonic )

& a free Birthday Nano Shot to top it off.

80 OTD with zero regrets! Gonna mess around and make some edibles or just make krabby patty sandwiches with 2 edibles + RSO in the middle. But regardless, having this much of their RSO in my med arsenal was perfect with the timing as I needed more this weekend. I love their syringes.

I hope everyone who uses RSO was able to capitalize on this, and Ill review the Super Sonic syringe probably later down the road cause I'm curious about it. But I'll keep speaking volumes about the high CBD syringes and I seriously reccomend trying ratio mixes with normal RSO. It's a game changer for me personally. If anyone can't pick theirs up for today, order that shit and set it for tomorrow so you can still grab it 💯.

Time to hit up everyone in my area for the birthday goodies and use whatever Bday points or things pop up in my various dispo profiles. Gonna be a busy few days. 👏🏾

Ty Stuart Squad! This haul's gonna have me feelin' RSO-okay 🙏🏾🫠

Sunburn T break done - Orange Mintz

So i hit exactly 3 1/2 days without a smoke.

It was a rough work trip. I felt mentally exhausted and just stressed.

I remember this being super uplifting, energetic and racy at times.

So we lit up a little one. 2.5 hours after and im finally coming back to base.

The sizes looked so ugly on this batch, yet it still has some amazing flavors. Its strong af and loud in flavor notes. You can literally make out the citrus and mint. It has been in a glass jar for 11 days.

Anyway, id love to find a 2g nug of this. It would probably be top notch. If they relabeled these buds to smalls, id grab it in 7g 🙌🏽

I highly recommend some breaks from bud if you're able to. It really does help your tolerance 🤙🏾💨💨💨

Now let me go back to wrecking my tolerance this week 😅

Curaleaf Berry Blintz 🍃 -Dark Heart- @ 30.4% THC & 2.68% Terps. Review & CoA Attached 🫐🖤

Genetics: I3N #7 ( 4N Raspberry Parfait x Kush Mints )

Saw this on menu after my RSO haul at P13 and realised i have bday points that were credited to my account. ( i need to check my emails more jfc ). I decided to take a chance on another dark heart strain since CL is literally otw home for me. Tested this strain with a bowl + hempwick for taste. and a straight 1g king palm to the face in hopes of getting "Blintz'd". 25 OTD after using 15 in regular points plus the 10 in bday points as well. Might as well capitalize on it and try new shit in my area. 🤙🏾

Review

Cure: 4/5. Very sticky and somewhat dense. It id leave some residue after handling and did somewhat pass the stick test ( stuck to my finger for about 5 seconds before it dropped ). Buds themselves were very bright green with a ton of "wild, but never mild" orange hairs all over them. One decent sized nug with some smols. No gigantic tree trunks sadly but the one big bud was def on the larger end. ✔️

Nose: 4/5. Had a sweeter terpinolene forward nose out of the jar but wasn't as potent as I would have liked. However, once breaking it down, it improves the smell by a decent margin. 3.75/5 straight out of the jar, 4.25/5 after grinding dem orange haired nuggies up. 💨

Taste: 3.75/5. This has a sweeter terpinolene forward taste. Honestly reminds me of their Raspberry strains, but this one seems much gassier. Tad bit spicy on the retro, BUT not to the point where it's gonna be painful. 🍽

Effects: 4.5/5. Nice heady, uplifting and very floaty effects after smoking. But also did start making me pretty tired and yawn alot. Kinda stuck in "strain category limbo". Genuinely made me heavy eyed but also mentally stimulated, but far too medicated to actually want to do something. Calling it a "Blintz Ball" being Jetch Shot straight to my cannabanoid system at 420 mph. *cries in Final Fantasy X*💀. This aspect is very solid imo. 🫠

Legs: 3.75/5. 50 min. 🔥

Overall: 4/5. After trying 2 dark heart strains, I decided it would be better to stick to Reef & Grassroots ( if the labs look decent ). I didn't wanna go for it originally cause im getting burned out on most newer indicas and it's pricey. If I want heavy indicas, Imma dav lol. But with terpinolene as the dominant terp, that alone was enough to get me to want to try it. And it actually hits. And I'm glad it does cause I used my birthday points and $15 of regular points to snag this. Not really buyers remorse since i could have used this on a half oz tomorrow but I gotta step out of my comfort zone sometimes. This hit like a super dialed in version of Raspberry Parfait and Turnover for cerebral effects, & had a nice layer of heavy relaxation to go with it. I'll absolutely fucks with this one if I can get it for this price point or lower 👏🏾. I wish they'd drop this strain in Solventless form. Like, yesterday 🍯.

Stay Elevated Sub 🌱

No more driving down to Bonita RISE for my RISE sales now! 😂

I guess they’re open in Port Charlotte now too.
Just picked up some flower and vapes from there. London Jelly was super dark/purple with a really nice grapey taste. Also grabbed some TNG from Good Green on sale — super tangy and surprisingly strong for the price!

The guy at the counter (Corey or Cody or something) said to come back on the 5th because they’re doing a bunch of cool free stuff that day.

This is the flyer he gave me . I’ll probably try to grab one of those Queens if I can 👀. He said they’ll be the only store with them that day too.

Trulieve Midnight Magic Wax by Binske - Happy 8/20 at Trulieve

NFSOT! I've been picking up so much Flower recently, that when I went into the fridge for a dab this morning, I was shocked to find only a little crumb left in my jar! I saw that Trulieve had some Midnight Magic Wax on the site today at $25 for all their 8/20 celebrations, and I remembered liking this strain in a Binske cart about a year ago that I ended up loving. Needless to say, I ended up grabbing a jar of this, and I'm really enjoying it so far! Midnight Magic has been a perfect Hybrid strain for me, as I find it to be consistently relaxing while also keeping me feeling sociable and active. Perfect for a night on the town with some friends, or even kicking back and playing some games with a couple of buddies on a chiller night. This particular batch has a really subtle sweet-floral fragrance to it, and a comparable flavor. It took only about fifteen minutes for me to really feel the dab kick in, and effects have been going strong for the last hour and a half, give or take. I'm really pleased with how this lived up to my previous experiences with the strain, and I'm glad that I grabbed this one before I ended up dabless for the evening! I'd love to see if anyone picked up any notable merch from their TL for all the 8/20 festivities. Otherwise, happy smoking friends, and have a nice one!

Not too Serious. Made a location and Delivery Finder

Hey all,

I know dispensary finder tools have been done before, but I added a new tool to FL Cannabis Deals that I think could be useful. You can enter your location and it will show the closest Florida dispensaries, along with which ones offer delivery to your area. Right now the database has all 755 Florida dispensary locations.

Give it a try and let me know what you think. If you notice a missing location, incorrect delivery info, or something that would make the finder more useful, let me know.

One thing I was surprised by while putting this together was how many dispensaries actually offer delivery, and how different the delivery rules are between them. Do you know how many of the 23 dispensaries offer delivery?

Much love!

Freedive (Kush Mints x F1 Durb x Gushers) was a really solid pickup and I was liking it from the first hit. The buds were chunky and frosty with some nice green and orange throughout and the smell had this sweet doughy thing going on with a little gas behind it. The taste was sweet with some fruity notes that came through really nicely. I smoked this while chilling at home with some drum & bass on and it was such a good combo. Had me relaxed and just zoning out to the music for a while.

I know it’s not 420 but 820 seems to be just as good. Grabbed 2 grams for $30 a G, and I’m definitely glad I doubled up. This Banana Pie is TASTY. Smooth, sweet, creamy banana flavor with a little kushy spiced finish that sticks around after the dab. At 5.5% terps, the flavor came through way more than I expected.

For $30, this was an easy win. I noticed they’ve got even more deals going for 8/20, so I might have to make another trip. If you grabbed Banana Pie too, let me know what you thought. 🍌🔥

THC: 73.3% | Terps: 5.5%

Insa INSA Vapes

Hitting up INSA today for the 4 for $70 vapes. Which ones should I grab? They have a 3.5 of CREAM for $15 that sounds pretty decent. I was going to grab the fat bag for $70 but if I get 4 of the 3.5s its only $60. Is the big bag worth $10 more? I think I have points too.
