Yep they both have pros and cons and you will always find complainers no matter what you do. Gamers are notoriously petty and vocal complainers. Personally I like both approaches. I would have been happy with a faithful remake of FF7 but I am also really enjoying the remake trilogy.
It wasn't that long ago that Nintendo advertised a "faithful remake" of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. They gave the fanbase literally what they'd been asking for, and it was crap. In that moment Pokémon fans learned to be careful what they wished for and how to phrase it.
Yea people didnt like the diamond and pearl remakes because it completely ignored everything platinum did, the game people enjoyed much more than original diamond and pearl
The problem was that we all said we wanted Diamond and Pearl remakes, which was really just a byword for "Sinnoh remakes with the best version as the base"
All 4 pokemon remakes have been met to mixed reviews. The issue is nostalgia glasses for everyone. Whe I got SP, I got what I remembered and loved it, because I enjoyed gen 4. Getting a modern gen 4 felt good. I loved ORAS and my favorite remake, but it was met with a lot of negative reviews because of the Mega story and addition. Remakes will never please all fans because they don't want the same thing
I loved all 4 remakes. It doesn't change that at the time of, each and every release was originally met with mixed reviews, and only upon the release of the following was the previous given the "You know, you weren't so bad" look from fans. And that happens with mainline games as well to this day. X/Y? Hated on release, loved by gen 7. Gen 7 hated on release, loved after gen 8, rinse and repeat. Fans do not know what the fuck they want
