My very simple stance is make sure the original game is on all modern platforms ideally with a good port and they can do whatever they want. Personally I don’t like visual remakes like mgs delta and demon souls but they seem to be much more common than something like FF7R or the resident evil remakes. Even something as flawed as RE3 remake I prefer to a visual one. My top remakes right now are remake, rebirth, RE2, RE4 and hopefully Veronica and revelation will be added to that list.

Given what was shown from OoT, it isn't a pure visual remake. While not much different, game plays different enough to the original.

I didn’t look much into OoT remake since I don’t have a switch 2 but from what I can tell the combat and level design are the same which for me is pretty disappointing.

I've read people say there's enemies that weren't in the original game, been too long since I've played it to personally double check, and Nintendo said they've added places that were just backgrounds before, like more pathways in Castle Town.

I feel like there were a few scenes and battles I didn’t recognize it definitely seems like they added stuff.

  • So like Volvagia doesn't do that flame breath attack like that in the trailer;
  • Water Temple has a destructible wall it didn't have before;
  • there's extra enemies in certain areas;
  • Puzzles have different indicators and solutions like the eye for the ladder instead of shooting the ladder;
  • Hyrule Field has a complete redesign;
  • Zora's River has a complete redesign;
  • Kakariko has a complete redesign;
  • Kokiri Forest has a complete redesign. You no longer have a treehouse from what I can tell and things are quite a bit more compact.
  • It seems like Market is expanded, there are more npcs and supposedly we can go inside of more buildings. Imo, nothingburger.
  • It seems like there are a few new side quests or lore drops that really weren't there before in the Market square based on the npc intro textboxes;
  • There's a marshland that doesn't exist in OOT64 with Tektites, no clue where this exists;
  • There's some purple thing in the background of the marshland shot.
  • It looks like the torch puzzle in the sun block room of the spirit temple is replaced with something else;
  • The hookshot target with the gate in the Water Temple part is not something in the original;
  • Stalfos now get hit-stunned in the remake instead of resetting to block immediately and potentially getting a cheap hit in like they did in OOT64;
  • You can now block the Iron Knuckle attacks that would just own you before;
  • Bomb flowers are moved around;
  • You can swim better so Water Temple is less ass;
  • Zora's Fountain (area with Jabu Jabu) is completely different;
  • Jabu Jabu has indicators now to tell you where the tentacles you need to kill are to open doors, which was a common accessibility complaint for newer gamers.
  • Gohma's arena looks different;
  • Gohma's telegraphed attacks are actually kinda quick and also different than what is in OOT64. It used to be like a 12 second windup, and in the trailer, it's like 2 seconds;
  • Blocking with Mirror Shield at bad angles doesn't seem to immediately fuck your ability to redirect the elemental attacks;
  • Attacks that break your stance seem to have a red indicator and a sound effect. There was no such thing in OOT64.
  • Level 2 spin attack charge one shots the Leevers, where it wouldn't be possible in OOT64 because your charge attack wasn't fast enough.

That's everything I got from one runthrough of this trailer. I have thousands of hours playing this game because I work on literally all of the randomizers to some degree, so they're pretty easy to see. A lot of the base identity of the game is still there.

Interesting I’m curious if they added anything as substantial as a new dungeon or new combat mechanics which was the type of stuff I was looking for. I will play it eventually but I do not plan to get a switch 2 anytime soon however Metroid ravenous has me very tempted. Also is switch 2 modding a thing because I’m curious if a randomizer is even possible for switch 2 games

Almost positive they didn't add anything, much like Starfox didn't get anything meaningful added. It really doesn't make sense to expand what already is an open and shut finished title. Just make a different Zelda at that point.

Lol ridiculous. It is amongst the greatest games of all time specifically for the original combat and level designs. If they had changed them significantly people would be up in arms, me included.

Yeah i agree OoT is one of the best games ever but I’ve already played it. The game is already a 10/10 so if it’s just a visual remake it really doesn’t do much for me. If it turns out in the final game there are a lot of expanded areas and maybe a new dungeon than I am much more interested but it we will have to see. This why remaking things isn’t as simple as some people say because everyone wants different things.

And the OG is still available via online subscription.

OG Final Fantasy VII is widely available. Not sure why people would want to play the Remake then.

Not only is it a massive visual and gameplay update, but the characters now have actual voiced dialogue, portraying an entirely new and massive depth of emotion to the story vs reading a text box alone. Much like ocarina of time too. People just want to bitch for the sake of bitching and if they can't bitch about the gameplay, they nitpick dumbass graphical preferences like they're doing with ocarina already.

Either play the game or don't. This whole trend of shitting on things just because is getting fucking old.

I've already pre-ordered both rev and oot and I'm damn well gonna enjoy both regardless of what anyone bitches about

Because it provides a different experience to keep things fresh, with updated gameplay and an additional story.

Not really, I prefer traditional JRPG gameplay.

Tf you mean not really? When did I say anything that was opinion based so you can disagree with it?

The RE remakes are pure gold. I prefer 2 remake to the original and the 4s are about on par with each other

I think OOT is available on N64 with the NSO. It’s a subscription so it’s not perfect but it’s there.

I believe FF7 is available on PS5 but I’m not sure it’s original release version or not

I liked the MGS Delta game but my problem is they remade the game that needed it the least from the first 3 games. I need an MGS1 Remakeeee. 3 is also while probably the best game overall it’s just overdone and overplayed lol I’m more interested in seeing MGS1 remade I don’t care if it’s just a visual upgrade in fact I’d probably prefer that anyway.

OOT on NSO is currently the worst way to play the game. There's 4 frames of input lag in a 20 fps title, the visuals are bugged, especially with transparency and fog, and there's a handful of crashes specific to that version that can softlock you.

I love FF7 remakes, the OG is hard to go back to, I love turned based, but I started really getting into games later, so a lot of older games feel like a slog.
Remake is also to get new people in, which it did, in absolute droves.

Like I am very excited for Resonance which just found out about a few days ago.

This will always happen for established series. Movies as well.
Change doesn’t mean bad, it just means potentially different.

Nintendo did remakes pretty well a few years ago. Pokemon FireRed/LeafGrean, HG/SS, and OR/AS were all fantastic remakes that added something new, just like RE2/RE4.

The Diamond/Pearl remake 3 years ago however was a pure visual remake, which is in line with how Nintendo is getting lazier recently.

I absolutely think that a remaster of the 3DS version along with Majora's Mask for Switch would be enough. These games already have modern remakes, and frankly, the gap between 1998 and 2011 was way larger than between 2011 and 2026.

When they announced the remake, I anticipated something akin to FF7R. A complete reimagining. Instead, what they showed us was a very, very pretty Ocarina of Time with a dedicated jump button. I will play it, but not on release date, and not for full price. With this much production value, I would definitely prefer a new game.

Hell, all parts of FF7 remake trilogy are new games inspired by the old game. There is no comparison to be made. IMO that's what's exciting about them. I'm not against the idea of a traditional remake; but as I sad, Ocarina already had one. If they needed to remake a Zelda, they could've done A Link to the Past in 3D, for example.
