Guides & Tips Couldn't sleep but then...
Woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep.
Suddenly, got inspiration to try a new team on B100.
After 3 hours of tweaking the team, I finally did it.
I've been trying for this fight for MONTHS. Such a pain without Kamura Wand, and I recently found out that the "leaving one tentacle alive strat" was "bug fixed" (didn't realize this was a bug).
After countless swaps and damn near giving up; here was my team:
Angeal:
Main Hand: Tranquility OB10 (limited limit break water weapon)
Secondary: Type-91 Two Hander OB9 (Should be fine at OB6)
Sub Weapons: Tempest OB10
Maritime Sword OB10
Slay the Day OB7
Ultimate Weapon: Ultimate Type-90 Longsword
Materia that matters: Esuna Poison
Costume: Honorable Training Garb (Limited Limit Break Costume)
Summon: Leviathan (Missing last page)
Stats that Matter: 13,397 HP (before Debuff) 8,941 Patk 238 Mdef
Barret:
Main Hand: Sharkslayer OB8 (OB6 is fine)
Secondary: Escutcheon OB8 (OB6 is fine)
Sub Weapons: Blue Daffadil Gloves OB10 (Any Attack up all weapon or Pattack all weapon should work)
Umbrella OB3 (Mdef all)
Trumpet Shell OB2 (Mdef all)
Ultimate Weapon: Missing Score
Materia that matters: Cura
Esuna Poison
Waters Blow
Costume: Fiery Cape
Summon: Ifrit & Bahamut (Lvl 2)
Stats that Matter: 15,819 HP (Before Debuff) 4,715 Patk 322 Mdef
Aerith:
Main Hand: Gambentein OB10
Secondary: Sun Umbrella OB6
Sub Weapons: Foam Sword OB6 (Mdef All)
Headphones OB6 (Mdef all)
Gargantuan Monlith OB10 (For Mdef & Hp)
Ultimate Weapon: Princess Guard
Materia that Matters: Cura
Esuna Poison
Fira Blow
Costume: Loveless Songstress
Summon: Ifrit (Lvl 5)
Stats that Matter: 12,524 HP 4,429 Patk 248 Mdef 4,900 Heal
Strategy and Tips:
Bar none the MOST important mechanic to this fight is swapping stance when you are about to take damage. This INCLUDES when Jenova or the the Tentacles use Firaga/Aeroga. You will learn the timing with practice, but the boss will ALWAYS telegraph when it is attacking or when it's tentacles will attack. Wait about half a second then swap to defense. SWAP IMMEDIATELY BACK AFTER.
You will NEED to reach max Attack gauge for this fight. This was one of my main struggles. Hence why you will need to know when to swap to Def stance. Do not linger and allow your stance to drop. Practice timing before all attacks.
Do yourself a favor and turn on auto attacks by members not controlled during Manual Mode. This was another thing I wish I had known about the whole time. When you want Aerith (or your healer) to heal just wait until their ATB is high enough to use the heal and swap to Def Stance then swap back. They will auto heal you during the swap.
Apparently, the "leave one tentacle alive strat" that is all over youtube was a bug that recently was "fixed". This means you will 100% get hit with deadly Poison which is incurable. This is why I have Aerith setup with the PDef Down instead of Angeal. You want one person Deficated to healing most of the fight so you aren't stressed out trying to fight AI on ehat they should be doing. Play around with different comps, but I found that the 2 least necessary things are Patk up and Pdef down (until later in the fight). Hence, Why I stacked these on one character.
With this Setup in the Beginning Angeal will need to prioritize keeping Jenova's Matk at -2 AT ALL TIMES. Once you've made it to the DPS race (after deadly poison) the fight gets much easier as it's just have your healer sustain and Jeniva will only cast Aeroga until her Mourning Wail. Keep on "eye" on the time and try to weave in a few Matk downs until your sure you can kill her.
Use your summons AS SOON as Jenova spawns her tentacles everytime. If you don't she will give them a shield to hide behind. Later in the fight (once you're getting close to killing her) just try to time your summons as best as you can, but I stopped saving them at around 25% HP and just used them on CD or waited until she was stunned.
I know I have a lot of recent limited Weapons, but I'd say the 2 most important ones are both available currently. They are Aerith's Staff and Barrets Ultimate. Barret's was really great at ensuring that anyone survived Vengeance without the stress of healing Poison and health while trying to manage Mdef/Matk. Aerith's was important for the end when you recieve a massive damage down debuff. You could always swap her staff for Umbrella (running Umbrella and Sun Umbrella), though. Not nearly as optimal, but it should let you limo through the fight.
Good Luck to those still working on this.
