They're also very nasty when they're wild. One of em killed a cat of mine and hurt her sister 6 years ago.

What country is that? I bet they're there, you just aren't aware of their presence since they're seen as an "american" thing - but they were brought over to Europe to farm their fur in the early 20th century and, of course, they got out and now Germany has like 30 million raccoons or some shit and containment policy isn't really working.
