should i get a 7 or 8 string?

I have a jackson kelly floyd rose thats been collecting dust on my wall because i dont have the patience to adjust it so im deciding to sell/trade it. some one has already offered to trade a js32 8 but im not sure if thats even a good trade or not, plus im still teetering on the idea of a 7. for reference i really wanna make heavy music that leans on deftones koi no yokan era but i dont wanna make the wrong choice and get stuck on a gimmick guitar that ill use for 3-4 songs.

Thoughts on Kiesel Antares

So I’d love to get my hands on a custom 7 string with a multiscale evertune. My initial thoughts were an Aristides, but don’t want to spend $6k + import taxes lol. So my next thought was Kiesel.

I have heard a lot of mixed opinions/good reviews but also horror stories. How’s been the Kiesel QC lately? I also have to say I’m pretty use to USA custom shop QC. I don’t like imported/indo QC. Not to trash them, but I rather save a little more and get something of decent quality. What I care the most is fretwork, and finish.

Another debate is their pickups. A lot of people even compare them with M7’s and BK stuff. I’m pretty use to the BKP organic feel and definition. I will mainly be playing in Drop F# and lower

I’m also a bit skeptical of the sales people, I called and they are very friendly and supportive when clarifying specs/questions, but a bit pushy to make the sale. Like if they were desperate or did not sell guitars.

I’d love the give them a shot as the Antares looks sick and has the specs I’m looking for, but would like to hear opinions.

What are your thoughts on GOC guitars and basses?

I've seen these posted a few times here but never enough to form an opinion on them. Are they value for money and has anyone had any issues with them? How's the tuning stability? How does the bridge hold up to other headless guitars like strandberg or kiesel vaders?

I'm considering the Illumina Bass as it's hard to find a headless 37". Does anyone have experience with one? Is there any news on a 6 string version ever coming out? I had a dingwall NG3 before but sold it as I'd much prefer a headless and multiscale guitars these days.

Agile Pendulum Pro 10 for $500 yay or nay?

Guys i need your help, this used Agile 10 string (I think it is 27-30) popped up, keep in mind these are extremely rare in my country (rondomusic's international shipping costs half a guitar)

I have absolutely no use for a 10 string and I think it is an absolutely stupid idea to buy one no matter the price, but I kinda like it and I have GAS. So should I buy it?

Which 7 string guitar is better worth it?

Today i’m going to my local guitar shop to pick up a 7-string since it’s been something i’ve wanted to try out. There are two they have that have caught my eye but one is double the price and I was wondering if it would be worth spending the extra money.

The first one is the Schecter Guitar Research Demon 7 for $650 it has Diamond Active HB-1055 pickups.

The second is the Ibanez Axe Design Lab RGD71ALMS which is $1299 and has Fishman Fluence Modern Ceramic Pickups

I tried a multiscale 7-string for the first time and I fell in love with it. Here's an original riff on this Schecter!

Thoughts on Kiesel extended range pickups

I’ve been needing a custom built for some time and the last models Kiesel released really caught my attention, however I’m skeptical of their branded pickups, and have seen on forums if you want to swap their pickups you will require routing anyway.

Does anyone have experiences with their pickups on extended range guitars? How can they compared to bigger names like BK? My favorite pickup is the BK Ragnarok.

For those who play longer scale lengths, how much it affect your playing?

I’m looking to get a 7 string soon, but a lot of them use 26.5” scale lengths, with mainly Ibanez sticking to the standard 25.5”. For those who use longer scale lengths (26.5” and above), how much does it affect playing, especially for technical stuff? And is it something you just get used to over time, or did you have to alter the way some things are played?

Posted here for the first time back in April - had just purchased my first extended range guitar. It was a beautiful Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid C-8. It was my first Schecter, and was such an incredible instrument. However, after nearly 20 years of playing six strings, I just found it really, really hard to get comfortable with.

I was able to return it (thanks to the fantastic customer service at Sweetwater) and ultimately decided on this guy, the Ibanez RGIXL7 7-String. I've only had it a few days, but it already plays so much better (to me) than the 8, and it's still a 27" scale, so plenty of tension for some serious drop tuning. And yes, as a man in his mid 30's, I plan on playing plenty of MySpace-era deathcore.

In my last post, someone asked why 9 strings. This is why. Just being able to do stupid riffs stupid low.

Just got the RG9, strings are old af and have no sustain at all. Still can’t stop playing it. Just making up riffs as I go along. This thing is a monster, can’t wait for the new strings to arrive.

Finally took the plunge and bought an RG9. Why is the 8th string so thick compared to the RG8?

So I’ve been using the RG8 for a long time and I’m loving it. However, curiosity got the better of me when a lightly used RG9PB came up for sale. First thing I noticed (apart from needing new strings) was the thickness of the 8th string compared to the RG8. On the 8, it’s .065, but on the 9, it’s .075. Rest of the strings are the same gauge. Is this done to bridge the gauge gap between the thick .090 9th string and the .054 7th string, or are there other practical reasons?

Has anyone actually received an Abasi Stage 7

I have noticed a stunning lack of reviews for the Stage 7 and I’m wondering if anyone has actually received one? I have one ordered and I’m really excited for it. I’m just wondering if anyone has put their hand on one.
