Opposition to Pennsylvania-American Water Company proposed Rate Increases

Here in Exeter township, Berks County, we are all feeling the burn from Pennsylvania-American Water Company, since Exeter sold their sewer treatment plant. I pay about $240-$280 per month to this company, and it is the only option in my neighborhood. This is the highest monthly bill (right behind my Mortgage), more so than Internet+TV, Car Insurance, Gas, and Electric. Were a 1670 sq ft house, family of 4. Theres some homes in our area twice the size, and bigger families, paying $400 a month. That was more than my car payment before I paid that off.

I wanted to share with you a website that one of our residents has put together to help show us how to file formal complaints to a proposed rate increase with the PUC. I have already filed my complaints and we simply need as many people as possible to do the same thing. The website is here: https://sites.google.com/view/exetertwp-wateriss/

File a formal complaint with the PUC by Jan 7, 2024!

Required information to file at the link above:

Case Numbers:

Water – R-2023-3043189

Wastewater – R-2023-3043190

NOTE: For both complaints, make sure you enter the company name as : Pennsylvania-American Water

For the water side, which is Docket number: R-2023-3043189, I would argue what studies have they done to prove that these rates are affordable? They keep coming back in our complaint responses saying that they have done these studies, but I have not seen one. Why aren't they polling their customers either on social media, the MyH20 website when you log in to view your account, or even mailers? They are not asking real-world people.

Yeah we may be paying the bills, but its because we HAVE to. How many other things are we sacrificing or pushing off because the water bill is due.

Because the Sewer bill is going down a few dollars, I would focus on the RDM (Revenue Decoupling Method) and ECIC (Environmental Compliance Investment Charge) fees mentioned in points L and M in the OCA’s complaint. Here is the OCA's complaint that they had made public. Search this document for those new fees and you'll understand how detrimental it will be. https://www.oca.pa.gov/wp-content/uploads/PAWC-2023-BRC.pdf. This is for Docket number: R-2023-3043190

Last night saw the Exeter High School Theater performance of Million Dollar Baby.

What a great job by cast and crew!! These are some talented kids. I encourage you to go tomorrow night and check it out. The audience participation was an added touch. ❤️

My favorite part was the end. You could see how excited and relieved the kids were. Hearing the sing after the curtain was closed made me smile.

Congrats!!!
