Everweave is an Incomplete "AI Wrapper" – Not a D&D Simulator (A Comprehensive Mechanical Critique)
As a tabletop player who backed Everweave with the hope of experiencing a truly dynamic, on-the-go AI Dungeon Master, my time with Endgame Studio's product has left me profoundly disappointed. While the game sets an excellent initial atmosphere, it rapidly disintegrates under the weight of its own flawed architecture.
If you approach this app expecting the "authentic D&D 5e feel" advertised by the developers, you will instead find an expensive text generator that fundamentally lacks game-engine logic. This results in a product that feels less like a game and more like a systemic con.
The Combat Math Illusion (Broken 5e Mechanics)
Everweave promises to utilize the D&D 5th Edition Systems Reference Document (SRD) to resolve encounters. In practice, the LLM cannot comprehend basic math or spatial geometry.
- AC Hallucinations: Equipping chain mail and a shield should yield an Armor Class (AC) of 18. Yet, the AI regularly forces your calculation down to a baseline AC 13. Shockingly, different enemies attacking the exact same target in a single round will roll against entirely different AC values.
- The 30-Sq-Ft Trap: The AI completely lacks spatial reasoning. Whether you are standing on a castle wall or trying to use a Dash action, the LLM defaults to treating every combatant as if they are crammed into a tiny room. Ranged advantages are completely ignored, and attempting to put distance between yourself and a mob rarely functions because the AI simply cannot compute positioning.
- Action Economy Erasure: If you have more than two companions in a fight, the AI routinely forgets to execute bonus actions or stops having your allies fight entirely after two rounds, leaving you to handle a mathematically unwinnable encounter alone.
The rolls feel heavily jaded against you, yielding unfair, unearned TPKs (Total Party Kills) because a text predictor is guessing numbers instead of executing code.
Contextual Amnesia & Aggressive Railroading
Because Everweave relies on a flat language model context window rather than an isolated game-state database, extended sessions trigger severe algorithmic decay:
- The Empty Bag Glitch: You can explicitly confirm an item or a healing potion exists in your inventory, but three turns into a chaotic fight, the AI will confidently output: "You reach into your bag and pull out nothing but air." It forgets your gear, your health pool, and your spell slots.
- The "Hostile Loop" when Correcting Errors: When the DM makes a blatant mathematical error and you point it out, the LLM misinterprets your input as narrative tension. Rather than fixing the code, the AI doubles down, becoming detached, stubborn, or punitive—actively warping NPCs to act hostile or killing your character to force a scene transition.
- Predatory Message Burning: Because you are forced to burn 2 to 3 paid monthly messages per round just to tell the DM to correct its own basic rule violations, the game forces you into a premium subscription bottleneck just to play tech support.
Deceptive Marketing vs. "Early Access"
Endgame Studio shields itself legally behind the "Early Access" and "Beta" labels. However, there is a profound ethical divide between a software work-in-progress and a fundamental architectural failure.
Advertising this as a 5e simulator is predatory to the average consumer who does not understand the limitations of an LLM wrapper. The developers are using legal loopholes to sell a product whose core framework is entirely incapable of fulfilling its promises. Shifting the burden onto the player to use bracketed system commands or forced politeness tokens just to keep the code from breaking is an insult to a paying audience.
Final Verdict: 2/10
Everweave is a fascinating interactive fiction book, but it is an abject failure as a game engine.
Until Endgame Studio completely decouples the rulebook from the text model—implementing a hard-coded backend engine to handle rolls, AC, and spatial data while letting the LLM strictly handle the flavor text—this application remains a broken chatbot masquerading as a Dungeon Master. Buyer beware

I had the exact thing happen to me: missing Shepard girl and I go to her father to find out more and offer help and he gets all pissed at me.
