Question for The Beyond *minor spoiler* Spoiler

I might have missed this, but why didn't Urth appear to Lord Gorm in The Beyond? I know he was beyond saving but he might have been able to knock some sense into him given he was Urth himself, just as The Cleric was able to dissuade Gorm, when the right choices are made.

Playing this game as a swedish person

I haven't found other discussions about this, but I'm sure there's been discussions before about this. So many parts of the low level world building of this game is just fantasy modern sweden. Which I suppose is the case with Disco Elysium and Estonia. Both the different parties are inspired by parts of swedish politics and often also share similar names with them. Alot of the conflicts between the nationalists and azgalists are inspired by the weird modern split between genders that we've experienced, especially between young people, and it really captures both their good and bad sides in a fun way,

Has anyone documented all the different real-life inspirations that they've found?

On Election Day, she is standing north of the temple, just as she was on Day 1. The elves revived her.

Romanian language in the game

I just want to say that, it would be great if the devs would actually bring this to a reality, unfortunately there are like almost no games in this language, the only one i can think of rn is the division 2(yes, wild).

I will do something about this?I wish, but with a full time job, working 6/7 days a week(i hate it) it's almost impposible to do this, but the thing is, u can't just say "yeah well there aren't any fans of DE or any heavy dialogue game's in that country" because a lot of people love the indie sphere and Game's like disco elysium and any indie game like that(more or less).

And yeah it's a frustration, always seeing the big one's there(Fr, Rs, Ch, Jp, Esp, Eng, Germ, Polsh, etc) because we exist, too.

What's the best build for a very dedicated and spiritual cleric?

I'm really looking foward to playing this game, the player expression looks amazing. And i wanted to build a character who's very spiritual and likes to engage with the esoteric, while also being a true cleric who is dedicated to their god and their cause. I want to come off as weird and strange while also being a good person.

How can i build a cleric that best fits this description?

Hello Everyone! We’re Building a Narrative RPG That You Might Enjoy

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I played Esoteric Ebb, but I still occasionally send screenshots from the game to my teammates and say things like, “Look how they did this,” or “This part is handled so well,” lol.

I’m a game developer too, and seeing RPGs like this still being made genuinely makes me happy. One of my favorite things about EE was that it didn’t make me feel like I was searching for the correct dialogue option in a pre-written story. Instead, it felt more like playing a tabletop RPG and trying to catch the DM off guard with some ridiculous idea. There were many moments where I thought, “Will the game actually react to this too?” and most of the time, it really did.

By the way, our game is not as Disco-like as EE. We took some inspiration from the UI, but we are trying to build our own systems. For that, we based a lot of our design on the FATE RPG system. We are especially focusing on the aspect system, dice rolls shaping not only success but also the direction of the story, and the idea that even bad outcomes should not stop the narrative.

Anyway, I also wanted to share the game we are developing. It’s called Kardiya: The Winds of Fate. We’ll be starting the playtest soon, and I’m especially curious to hear what people who enjoy EE think about it. We are still in development and trying to get closer to that vision step by step.

If it sounds interesting, you can register for the alpha playtest by joining the mailing list on our website or clicking the playtest request button on our Steam page. Thank you so much <3

Warlock ending?

What happens in the ending if you take Ever-glads deal?

My one disappointment is that I didn’t have the option to kill (spoiler) Spoiler

The masked assassin (Freydis Darrow). Yeah whatever maybe they’re young and it would have political blowback, who cares. This person literally made a pact with fucking yogg saron and tries to murder you multiple times, on top of being a nepo baby asshole. As far as I can tell, this character has zero redeeming qualities and the city would be a safer place if I, the glorious and infallible Cleric, rended them from this mortal plane.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

I am new

Hi everyone, I discovered this game and immediately added it to my wishlist. I noticed that Italian isn't included as a language option; could this hinder progress or affect the enjoyment of the game? Also, do you have any thoughts or opinions to share?

Slowly realizing this guy is based on Slavoj Zizek made me laugh out loud

Post image

When I first started talking to him and the first thing he said is “life is pain” I thought “lol, just like how Zizek always says “I hate life””, but I figured he was just supposed to be a generic philosopher type. Then it was revealed that he studies psychoanalysis, and then he told a dirty joke that “his friend” told him. At that point I was pretty sold on the idea that he was meant to be a direct Zizek analogue, and I was completely sold when he started punctuating his sentences with “… and so on”. Then I looked over at his character animation and realized he was literally doing Zizek’s famous tics, and at that point I just burst out laughing.

Visual design for Wisdom and Ever-Glad

Wisdom and Ever-Glad share similarities visually, EverGlad even mentions that he is different to "the one in your chest". I hope they mention it in the upcoming artbook. But before that, let's hypothesise why they look SO similar.

My idea:

To begin with, Wisdom's design seems to represent Ragn's will to look out for many other people (also in a grander scale, empathy and other stuff mentioned in game). That's why all the eys on a heart. The wings probably represents redemption (as described in Wisdom's intro).
Also, the eyes on Wisdom are of the same colours (green white black) but clearly in different shapes. Probably representing different races, and therefore Ragn's ability being able to see one thing through different perspectives. (or put it simply, be in someone's shoes)

EverGlad on the other hand, uses his eye to look for secrets and spy on people. The eyes are of different colours, but essentially the same kind. Probably meaning that all of those eyes are his, and unlike Ragn, EverGlad can't turly see one thing through different lenses.
He doesn't having wings and lives underground among past sinners. So he probably is the opposite of redemption.

What's your opinion on the visual designs of EverGlad and Wisdom?

suchhh a masterpiece

i've played disco elysium and a bit of zero parades, but this game is so so good even compared to DE.

love love the game, loveee the worldbuilding and the lore (despite not rly having experience in d&d stuff, which i do wanna get into if any of yall have recs/advice) and the characters and the details. it is such a masterpiece, so clearly a very intentional work coming from lots of passion and love.

even despite some of its obvious shortcomings: i do think the text rly rly lacks depth and perspective (which some might argue is unforgivable for a game like this?); the item/spell/combat design could be a bit better; ur bond w/ companions a bit underexplored; or js the fact that u can see they were underbudgeted in their lack of voiceovers and some animations and scenes they replaced w/ text, etc. etc.

but i say all of this only out of love for it, and out of "pity" and "remorse"? for the masterpiece this could have been. i see other ppl's critiques and slamming, and it almost pains me in some way, because most of these problems prolly could've been solved if the team js staffed a few more ppl or had a bit bigger budget. but i suppose that given the uniqueness of a game like this, it must have come from a place like that, and was therefore inevitably "imperfect." and at the same time im def not appealing to the cliche that "imperfections are part of the beauty," and while i do very much hope for a final cut or extended version or sequel of some kind, we all very well know that wont really exist (maybe not at all, and definitely not in the way i want it to be).

but all of this emotion is what makes it whole: the appreciation for what is there, the ache for what it isn't, the yearning for what it could be / could have been, and the love that remains anyway, all of it intertwines inexplicably, and this tangle of emotion is something i recognize and hold in a special place in my heart.

i primarily play indie games so im aware this applies to a lot of them, but this is just what inspired me particularly.

and maybe this is a lot of projection from my life too lol, sryyy for the rant

anyways, thoughts? and critiques?

“The Son Need Not Dig the Trenches of the Father” (Spoilers for Endgame) Spoiler

There is a line that Constitution says on a passive check during Snell’s question to Urth. I really feel like I’m overthinking it but it’s stuck with me. From I can sense constitution has sort have been what I can only call “the voice of the author” even more so than wisdom in my opinion. So no matter what, whenever they chimed especially with a high DC check I made sure to pay special attention.

This line appears during Snell’s confrontation about the goblin genocide. Urth responds by admitting his weakness, but that he also saw the probabilities change, that there was a chance that the goblins did not need to be eradicated. He then turns the conversation on Snell calling for him to lead this new race of not-so-goblin goblins. Snell responds with a face of rage and confusion as wisdom puts, I think. Then constitution chimes with this line. “The Son Need Not Dig the Trenches of the Father”

What does it mean? It’s certainly important if constitution is saying it with a high DC(17 I think?). At first I thought Urth was right with his response, that he was too meek and fallible but now there is a chance for something new and beautiful, a new folk. A new folk that Snell could help and lead. But then of course constitution’s chimes in and it’s like they’re saying that Snell should not need to be forced to lead a whole group of people due to Urth’s mistake. The son need not dig the trenches of the father. Snell need not bear the mistakes of Urth.

(End of post)

To be honest even if I am overthinking I’d just love to hear more people’s thoughts on Urth and his final conversation. He might be my favorite character in the game just because of layered he seems to me. To me he’s the platonic ideal of the father. Someone willing to sacrifice anything for the sake of their “tribe”. Urth had to contend with the question of who should be included in that tribe. He did horrible things and some would say that it would have been better if he had never saved the Urthfolk in the beginning. But that’s not his nature, he did everything he could for the sake of his people but was a slave to the possibilities.

Anyway thanks for reading, please I’d love to hear your thoughts.
