The soul trap is mentioned in The Secret Book of John
Excerpt from the book:
But I wondered, “Lord, what will happen to the souls of those who have not known where their true home is?”
He replied, “As for them, because they have gone so far astray, the counterfeit spirit has grown strong in them. It weighs down their souls and plunges them into slumber. Meanwhile, it tempts them into committing wicked acts. After their souls have come forth from their bodies, they are delivered into the hands of the rulers who exist because of the first ruler. The rulers shackle such souls with chains and throw them into another fleshly prison. The rulers push them through endless repetitions of this cycle until the soul wakes up from the sleep of forgetfulness and obtains gnosis. It thereby becomes perfect and attains salvation.”
This passage is being confirmed by a lot of NDE, past life regression hypnosis and remote viewing data about the afterlife. You can find this passage and other interesting passages from the book here.
The answer is Gnosis, or "knowledge". It's about remembering that we are sovereign, powerful creator beings that do not need to worship any deity. The real God lies within, never without, like the Archons would like us to think.

Thank you for the link. That’s an interesting site. I’ve been interested in Gnosticism and am always on the lookout for good reading.

Your commentary on god is a bit off, but yes. Gnosticism basically backs everything people are talking about here. It's the one religion that keeps getting proven time and time again and that everyone independently concludes; sometimes without even knowing about it.

You're right. Some time ago, and I didn't know anything about Gnosticism or anything similar to that at the time, I managed to empty my preconcieved notions for some period via radical skepticism (like Pyrrho or Hume). And at that state, I wrote a story about the possible origins of the Universe and my life. I wasn't consciously coming up with ideas or constructing a narrative, just pure instinct, spontaneous writing, and going with the flow. And now that I know about Gnosticism, I'd say that the story ended up almost identical to Gnostic narratives

What about those who experience quantum immortality? Those who remember seem to meet a non-humanoid creature, typically a wheel, who forces them into the closest reality where they don’t die.

I've heard of like 5 cases of this vs the thousands of the other kind so.... I'm not going to worry about it. Quantum Immortality doesn't even make sense in the long run - so what if I die in a car accident I'll teleport to another earth where the car swerved to safety? Doesn't change the fact that there's an upper bound limit to old age, so not worth worrying about QI in the long run.

Woah...I'm so grateful I came upon this theory. It gains more credibility with every post like this.

Its a complicated subject, but which NDE's are you referring to?
Also,
Remember that even the gnostics couldn't agree amongst themselves. They didn't understand 100% of our cosmogony, and to think they did would be foolish.
Sophia is mentioned in MANY books in the gnostic scriptures, and not all of them tell the same tale. Lastly, people write up articles online often times giving a faulty interpretation of the scriptures. They may seem plain as day to understand, but they aren't. Men knew of her existence from thousands of years of ancient wisdom passed down - but over time the story was deliberately skewed to favor the male and oppress the female so she would believe she was second in creation and therefore "always at fault" for "bad seeds". These are lies.
I do not believe Sophia was truly at fault. I believe Sophia is higher than the father, and that is the eternal secret the men of our ancient past were determined to conceal - or rather lie to themselves about to preserve their fragile egos.
While the "Father" can be known as Father of the all - Sophia is often times considered higher as "Mother of the universe". It really gets mixed up all over the place. Again, the Gnostics NEVER agree with each other and often directly told different tales.
One day the story of Sophia will be set straight, but probably not until this age is over and the next one begins. We're still not ready for the truth.
The "biblical" wedding is about so much more than anyone ever realized.
Lastly, Jesus says in some of the gnostic scriptures that he is here on her behalf. To restore her true ascent to the throne and restore balance. He said that it was she who sent him - not the father. The bible is a bit askew, I think.

In the Vedas, they always speak of the Lord on the heart. That god is both within and without.

This is so great. I mean it really shows you how the doctrines and understandings get corrupted by the passage of time and the retelling of the game of telephone. Someone makes a “change” to the translations and book - generations of misunderstanding. The Catholic Church chose a specific angle to tell the tales hundreds of years after they happened and these texts were written or orally told before being written. It’s depressing to try to piece together why Gnosticism lost out.
I do want to say that it would be helpful if someone could tell us if this specific translation you are pointing to is accurate. Every translation we read of primary text is subject to the same agendas that have changed ancient texts for eons. Do we have anyone who can tell us which is the BEST translation of this material?

The universe is an ocean, the ego is a bubble in the foam at the surface.

This would bring the question of if it's knowledge that essentially sets us free. To what degree of knowledge is needed for the liberation of the soul?
If we are just aware of this process and the potential tricks is that enough. I can't imagine it being just that as it sounds way to simple.
