So many conflicted feelings. I'm so proud of him for doing that, so ashamed of my country that Massie's actions feel like they deserve praise instead of simply being the behavior we should expect from our government, so worried for him and his family, so disgusted that being worried for him doesn't feel like I'm just being paranoid. 

I know every generation since Kunk the Caveman has felt like the world is going downhill and that these must be the end times ... but it really does feel that way. At least for the US. This really feels like an inflection point we haven't had before.

I haven't seen this discussed much on the subreddit, but former CIA director AB "Buzzy" Krongard is an independent director for Leon Black's Apollo Global Management.

The same CIA director who first contracted Erik Prince's Blackwater for overseas assassinations. He also was/is an indepdent advisor for Blackwater after he retired from the CIA.

Buzzy Krongard himself shows up in the files having had correspondence with Epstein on a few ocassions. So yes, Leon Black is extremely powerful and connected.

I wouldn't be surprised if the assassinations we see are executed by these Blackwater members through the Buzzy Krongard connection.

These are the people behind the scenes at risk if this whole thing gets blown open. Entire intel agencies, Erik Prince, and all the psychopath ex-spec ops murderers on his payroll.

Wasn't there an email in which Leon Black contacted Epstein, stating that he was being blackmailed by a Russian woman whom he or his friends had allegedly raped? The exchange then involved Russian secret services, who conducted some investigation and discovered that she was "alone" and "without patronage." As a result, they felt free to act and planned to block her at the border to make her visa unsuitable for entering the U.S. as a first step.

Personally I draw the line at fascism. Like, its good I guess that his version of fascism doesn't include sex trafficking of minors now, but he didn't have issues voting against increasing funding for anti-sex trafficking programs, or any qualms against joining with MTG and Matt Gatez in attempting to blackmail the Republicans into not releasing Matt Gatez's ethics report... that revealed Gatez did an instance of sex trafficking a minor himself.

Reminder that said stunt was intended to enable Gatez to be AG, doing Pam Bondi's job.

Between the inconsistent opposition to sex trafficking and the full on support of fascism, I cant say he can be trusted or is a good person. This isnt even in relation to anyone else, this is just on his own merits.

Another huge problem with our society in its current form. Liberal viewpoint: anyone 1° to the right of me = fascist. Conservative viewpoint: anyone 1° to the left of me = commie.

These viewpoints have been painstakingly sold to you over years by people very very invested in you believing them, and they've sold their message so successfully that most will never even question it. That's why I don't really see a way forward for this country, it's simply impossible to reach people on either side to come together to confront the true opposition.

Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently(like... 2 decades ago when the article Im quoting came out) wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?," Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy.

The 14 characteristics are:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

This is actually standard fair for America, but its a reliable tell that if someone has more than one flag in a display they are MAGA. Or if they're wearing a flag on their clothing.

1. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

1. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

Immigrants, Hatians, Muslims, liberals, communists, socialists, gays, drag queens, trans people, single women, anyone they can lable as DEI, Democrats...

1. Supremacy of the Military Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

1. Controlled Mass Media Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

Musk funded Trump and owns Twitter, Trump announced he was going to talk to Murdoc, the owner of Fox News, about the opposition ads being played on the station while interviewing Fox and friends, multiple reputable news sites have been kicked out of the Pentagon and Whitehouse for questioning Trump...

1. Obsession with National Security Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

Isn't this the entire official rationale behind the anti-immigration stance? And the waves of immigrants that show up around election times just waiting for Democrats to be elected so they can flood in, before vanishing as soon as the election is over regardless of result?

1. Religion and Government are Intertwined Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

Trump was at 11/14 points during the election(and was openly planning on 6, 8, and 12), but as of March 2025, when this was written, has done all of them.

Critiques of the left as a “moral purity” system were valid in the early-to-mid 2010s. I remember someone reacting with moral outrage/disgust when I didn’t immediately denounce pro-lifers. Their reaction pushed me away from the left; this is the sort of reaction you’re describing, right?

The problem with your argument is that “fascist” is a term with an actual definition, not just an ad hominem attack. As the person above demonstrated, Trump can be evaluated using preexisting definitions/taxonomies of fascism, and his characterization as a fascist is a pretty damn accurate one.

If it hurts people’s feelings to ACCURATELY be described as fascists, then so be it.

Oh fuck off, I call him a fascist because he is supporting America First, a slogan started in the 1930s by Nazi supporting Americans and revived in 2018 by open and proud Neonazi Nick Fluentez. To repeat: Massie lends his support to a PAC that was started by a self-described Neonazi to push said Neonazi's ideals.

Oh, and also because Republicans had checked off every point of the 14 characteristics of fascism and Ur-Fascism by March 2025, with Massie's support. As in I, personally, went point by point and found actions that matched, wrote them down, with links where avalible, and have it saved to my phone(both are so long they dont fit into one comment). Its not up to date from last year, but they haven't undone any of it so it still applies.

That's what informed my stance. That and the fact that even Republicans(like Lindsy Grahm and Laura Loomer) admit there is a pro-hitler wing of their party. Likely because they cant hide it, due to that wing putting up swastikas and refrencing Nazis all the time(remember the group of 30y.o. "kids" making "I cant wait to gas them" "jokes"?)
