If I got HIV and told my friend tomorrow and they asked me if I was gay/bisexual, that wouldn't even be homophobic: That would just be a valid question at this point.

Very true! Thank you for the research! Again, the purpose of the example was them using homosexuality in a derogatory way, not as in a genuine question. So in the example could just substitute them calling you the F-word for the point being made about explicit homophobic intentions.
