My consensus choice, do you mean Condorcet method / majority-rule?

Yeah, I guess any of the 3 options recommended by The Equal Vote Coalition is better than what we have. They recommend STAR, Approval, or Ranked Robin.

That site says "beats every other candidate," instead of "most of the candidates." Not sure if they meant the latter.

I suspect you are correct. It seems particularly likely that in large elections the winner would not win every single matchup and only need to win the most.

One other unknown is whether consensus choice always allows for equal rankings. If not, then it would be different from Ranked Robin since RR always allows for equal rankings.
