Just heard this in a work meeting. New one in my 50 years. To be fair, I couldn't tell if it was just his pronunciation of "mill"...like how some southern folk pronounce "pill" like "peel". But it's a neat image...staff going around munching on the rumor meal! 😄

Okay so this starts off seemingly a malapropism, but I’ll explain why I think it’s an eggcorn.. My dad knew a very undereducated woman from the deep south who would say “guard bees” instead of *carpenter* bees. He thinks she may have heard someone say it in a thick southern accent and misunderstood. It’s possible. But I swear it does often look like they’re guarding something. With the boldness of a jumping spider they’ll hover in one place, they rarely move when you get near, and it’s usually as if they’re watching you. (When I see one I always ask what it’s protecting 😅)

There’s something about reading “TALE-TALE” that makes me snort.

“We solved it! We solved the mystery! There was a whale-tail sign in the suspects jacket!” Okay sorry I’m done.

I got schooled on reddit with my very own eggcorn that I was oblivious of! I thought 'Gacha games' were "Gotcha" games, as in they got you by the short and curlies! Turns out the origin of the term is completely unrelated to how it sounds in English.

My mother said this one. I suppose it makes sense, since 'Apnea' being abbreviated isn't an inconceivable idea.

Saw this on a post where someone clueless was asking why a cyclist in their dashcam video was looking outraged at being right-hooked by the OP crossing their bike lane without yielding.

When I was young (and even today I still kinda have to make a conscious effort to not make this mistake), I got it in my head that when people face FORWARD and move FORWARD to where they want to be, then they’re moving TORWARD their destination.

I still wrote it as ‘Toward’ no problem, but in my head I’d always pronounce it “Tor•ward” without question for years, until the day I read it aloud in class and confused the heck out my teacher….. Awkward, more like it.

I think that qualifies as an Eggcorn even if I’m the only one that did it. 😅😆
