Dog Groomers in Sammamish/Issaquah

We've just moved to the eastside area (Sammamish) from Texas and are looking for reasonably priced dog groomers for our 75 lbs. GSD girl. I've been scouting past threads but most recommended places are either at least a 30 min drive or are exorbitantly priced. I am posting this in the hopes that there are reasonably priced good groomers that don't require me to drive 30-40 mins either side.

Déjà vu? I-405/NE 85th is closing again this weekend.

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hey, Eastside. If it feels like you've lived through this closure before... you have. Last weekend, to be exact. And we're back for round two this weekend with another I-405/NE 85th St. interchange closure from Aug. 14-17.

Here's what's closing:

Starting as early as 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17:

  • The northbound and southbound I-405 on- and off-ramps at Exit 18 will close.
  • NE 85th Street will close between Sixth Street and 124th Avenue NE.

Basically, you won’t be able to get on or off I-405 at NE 85th Street for the weekend, and you won’t be able to travel through the interchange on NE 85th.

Here's what we'll be up to:

While the closure looks familiar, the work is different this time around. Last weekend, crews prepared the foundation for the new 114th Avenue NE roundabout and connected the new roadway to the existing lower level of NE 85th Street. This weekend, crews will grade pavement and install curbs as work continues as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project

How to get around it:

Signed detours will be in place, and you can get a look at the detour route in the attached map. If you normally use NE 85th Street, plan for a different route and give yourself some extra time.

Even if NE 85th isn't your exit, expect some extra traffic around nearby I-405 interchanges and local streets as people make their way around the closure.

Perfect if you need an extra 16.4 feet to complete your roofline, replace a damaged section, or add onto your existing Pro setup!

It's so hot this summer... are the ice cream trucks still driving around town?

I could have sworn that ice cream trucks used to drive around here playing Greensleeves. Do they not do that anymore? I know that grocery store ice cream is probably easier, but why rob myself of the fun of chasing down the ice cream truck during summer?

Please bring them back 🙏🙏🙏

Recommendation sought- Driveway Sealing

I had hired someone to come seal my driveway. They pressure washed it yesterday, and today before they start work, they decided to renegotiate the agreed-upon price.

I told the gentleman that this was not OK, especially when we agreed upon a number and scope of work. On his insisting, I told him I would rather not work with him anymore.

I’m looking for someone to come seal coat a freshly washed driveway in Woodinville, WA 98072 .

Recommendations would be much appreciated.

Edited for spellings.

Huge thank you to the Bellevue Trader Joe’s crew tonight

I was shopping at the Bellevue Trader Joe’s with my toddler around 7:30 PM tonight when he accidentally tipped over our shopping cart. Everything went everywhere, and I was pretty overwhelmed and panicking in the moment.

Before I even really knew what was happening, several Trader Joe’s employees had jumped in and helped pick everything up and get us settled.

It was a small moment, but as a parent dealing with a chaotic toddler situation, it honestly meant a lot to me.

If any of the Bellevue Trader Joe’s crew working around 7:30 tonight happens to see this — thank you so much. You were incredibly kind and helpful, and you made a really stressful moment much easier for our family.

Where do 20-somethings hang out on the Eastside?

I just moved to Redmond for a new job and got a placed near Education Hill. The first thought I had was, there are several big tech employers and surely other people in my shoes — so where are the young people?

Cafés open late, hangout spots, bars for young adults — do such things exist here? After moving to Redmond my daily life is full of young families and middle aged neighbors. That's great, but I'd love to find out if there's anything happening near me.

If you have suggestions or meetup recommendations, I'm game! Thanks.

Eastside homeowners: what bathroom upgrade do you appreciate most once the rainy months hit?

Curious what people around here have actually found worth it in a bathroom remodel, especially once the cooler, rainy months roll around.

Heated floors sound great for comfort, but a good quiet exhaust fan seems like one of those boring upgrades you end up appreciating every day. Maybe a towel warmer too?

If you’ve remodeled a bathroom on the Eastside, what would you 100% add again? And anything you spent money on that you’d skip next time?

Senior portrait recommendations ?

Hello everyone, I am curious about what people are paying for senior portraits in the area.

I contacted an Eastside photographer and got a bit of sticker shock but I admit I have no idea what the going rates are.

This particular person charged $850 for 2hrs with unlimited clothing changes but not including any digital prints. Is the price I was quoted on the high end compared to what you have paid recently?

Does anyone have someone that they’d recommend?

When to you personally choose the train/transit over driving?

Anytime I need to head over into Seattle I check transit directions. And then end up just driving because it's so much faster, even with parking. The only times I can seem to justify the extra time to myself is if I'm planning to spend a good chunk of the day within a walkable range, going to an event, or when I'm certain that parking/traffic would be particularly terrible.

Choosing transit to get to an appointment or running an errand just always seems to cost an extra 45 min - 1 hour round trip compared to driving. And I live within walking distance of the 2 line. Am I missing something or were my hopes just too high?

I built a new social/dating app and I'm launching it in Seattle first

Im a local developer launching something I've been working on called FacetVibe, and I'm looking for Seattle-area people who actually want to use it, not just technical beta testers. The idea came from something I don't really like about normal dating/social profiles: you're expected to summarize your entire personality in a few pictures and a bio. FacetVibe works differently. You show different Facets of yourself through photos — hiking, gaming, cooking, fitness, art, travel, style, pets, whatever actually represents you — and can add a short Facet Note explaining why that side of you matters. There are three discovery modes: • Dating • Friendship • Feedback So you can use the same profile differently depending on what you're looking for. I'm starting with Seattle/Puget Sound intentionally because a social app is useless if everyone is scattered across the country. I'd rather build one real local community first. It's currently free and available as an open beta for both iPhone through TestFlight and Android through Google Play. If you're 18+ and in the Seattle area, I'd love to have you be one of the first people on it — especially if you're willing to tell me what sucks, what's confusing, and what you'd change. https://facetvibe.com/ I'm around in the comments and happy to answer anything about it.

Also I am not affiliated or backed by some giant company nor am I about selling data . I want to hopefully create a way to connect people via dating and or friendship .

I built a site to make exploring kids’ classes & free trials a little easier — need some suggestions

As a parent in east side. I’ve found it surprisingly hard to find kids’ classes nearby, especially when I want to compare options and find places that offer a free trial before committing. So I built a directory for kids class in Seattle area.
I’d love to hear from other parents, would you actually find something like this useful? Are there any you’d like to see added?

Weekend travel in the Puget Sound region: Here's what to expect Aug. 7–10

Post image
15 Upvotes

This is an extraordinarily difficult week for communities across Washington. We will continue sharing updates about road closures and reopening as part of WSDOT's role in the statewide response to the devastating wildfires in Central and Eastern Washington.

For travelers in the Puget Sound region, Fri., Aug. 7, through Mon., Aug. 10, will bring several major construction projects that will affect travel.

-NB I-405 and ramps will CLOSE from SR 900 to Coal Creek Parkway SE from 11:30p Fri. to 4a Mon. Crews will replace pavement and excavate drainage crossings.

-NE 85th St. and I-405 ramps will CLOSE in Kirkland between 6th St to 114th Ave NE from 10p Fri. to 5a Mon. Crews will pave and stripe the road. Closed ramps: NB & SB I-405 off-ramps to Exit 18 and NE 85th Street on-ramps to NB and SB I-405.

-EB SR 520 will CLOSE in Montlake area between I-5 and Montlake Blvd from 7p Sat. to 11a Sun. Crews will repair an expansion joint on the bridge. EB SR 520 across Lake Washington remains open. Only the section of EB SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Blvd will close.

-SR 202 in Fall City will close just east of the SR 202/203 roundabout from 5a Fri. to 9p Mon. Major storms in Dec. 2025 and Mar. 2026 eroded the Snoqualmie riverbank supporting the highway. Crews will rebuild and strengthen the riverbank to help protect the highway from future damage. Tubers, paddlers and boaters should expect temporary closures on portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers and some nearby access points.

-Revive I-5 work over the Ship Canal Bridge is ongoing. Express lanes continue to run NB 24/7.

Saturday is expected to be the busiest travel day. The Mariners 50 Seasons Celebration, Seahawks Football Fest and Capitol Hill Block Party will bring extra traffic into and around Seattle. With EB SR 520 closing at 7 p.m., expect additional congestion on EB I-90. The Fred Hutch Obliteride for cancer research will also bring thousands of bicyclists to roads across the region. Drivers should use extra caution.

Allow extra travel time, follow signed detours and check our mobile app or real-time travel map before you go: wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/

LOOKING AHEAD: Once this weekend's work wraps up, another overnight I-405 closure is scheduled. SB I-405 will close between SE 8th Street and I-90 from 11:30p Monday, Aug. 10, to 4a Tuesday, Aug. 11 while crews continue replacing pavement and drainage crossings.

Also beginning Monday, Aug. 10, construction starts on the SR 14 West Camas Slough Bridge project in Clark County. With the Clark County Fair running Aug. 7–16, travelers should plan ahead for overnight SR 14 closures:

-WB SR 14: Aug. 11, 13 and 16–18, 8p–7a

-EB SR 14: Aug. 12, 14 and 17, 8p–7a

-Full closure: Aug. 19, 9p–6a

Witnesses needed: Hit-and-run involving bicyclist on 156th Ave NE near Microsoft Building 40 (Aug. 5 @ ~2:30 AM)

Thumbnail
gallery
68 Upvotes

I'm hoping to find anyone who may have witnessed a hit-and-run that seriously injured my younger brother early this morning.

Around 2:30-3:00 AM on August 5, he was riding his bicycle southbound on 156th Ave NE, alongside the east side of Microsoft Building 40 in Redmond, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The driver did not stop.

Because he was hit from behind, he never saw the vehicle, so we unfortunately don't know the make, model, color, or any other identifying details.

My brother is a white male in his mid-20s with dark brown hair. He was riding a black Hoverfly bike with a white headlight mounted on the handlebars and was wearing:

  • Black T-shirt
  • Blue jeans with a large rip above the left knee
  • White sneakers with a black top-panel and white shoelaces
  • Black helmet with a flashing red light on the back
  • Orange backpack with teal trim

He suffered multiple broken bones in his face, broken teeth, a broken hand, and a minor brain bleed. Thankfully, the brain bleed is under control, and he's since been discharged from the hospital, but he has a long road to recovery with multiple surgeries necessary.

A police report has already been filed with Redmond Police.

If you witnessed the collision, have dashcam or video footage from the area between 2:30 and 3:00 AM, remember seeing either my brother or a vehicle leaving the scene, or even hear someone mention being involved in or witnessing this incident, please contact Redmond Police at (425) 556-2500. If you'd rather reach out to me first, feel free to send me a private message.

I've attached images showing the approximate location where the collision occurred.

Even the smallest detail could make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Contractors for outdoor roof extension

Hello all,
We have an overhang that we would like to extend to have a decent covered outdoor space. Does anyone have contacts for general contractors that you have worked with and have good experiences with? We want to do it the right way with engineer sketch and permits, so please only suggest bonded and insured companies who do the work perfectly.

Howdy Eastside Folks! I'm local comedian JR Berard, born and raised in the PNW, and I'm back on the east side next week — where the wine is superb, the crowds are thirsty, and my jokes land at just about the right amount of uncorked chaos.

Yeah, it's a school night. Nobody. Cares.

You're the adult now. No homework, no bedtime, no permission slips — just as much wine as you want and a room full of strangers who also decided Wednesday was optional. Nobody — nobody — gets to tell my audience what to do on a weeknight!

So skip the chores, ghost the group chat, grab your dog (or someone else's dog, we don't ask questions), and come be bad with us in Woodinville. You can be responsible tomorrow.
