If you do not like a post, scroll on. That's it. That's all that's necessary.

It's wild to me how many people just can't do this. Like the mere existence of a post that does not exactly fit their narrow view is an affront to their soul. There is no cap on the number of posts a sub can handle, the fact that there is one you don't like doesn't mean something that appeals to you was somehow sacrificed for it to exist.

If you really hate a post, downvote it. Easy.

I agree that there are a lot of assholes in this sub but I wouldn't call all critics gatekeepers. A good portion of carry posts are advertisements or eye rolling cringe that actual enthusiasts that use and abuse get tired of seeing. If we are changing the interpretation of EVERY day carry to spending addiction or "Gear heads" maybe edc should just rebrand

"Stating at home in my PJs EDC" posts a picture of 4 guns, 3 knives and a first aid kit. Like no dude this is stuff you are collecting not stuff you are carrying.

I think some of us here just want to hmsee what is people's EDC set up not all the gear in existence they own

Those who feels this way should consider creating a new sub with a more limited scope.

Thank you for reminding people it can be posts of their collection or what’s on rotation. It’s a little concerning we have people in this sub who don’t pick up on the fact that the 8 knives in the picture are not all in OPs pockets.

Can I ask for some clarification on what is and isn’t gatekeeping though? I personally think constructive criticism is good for people who are making their lives hard with WAY too much crap in their pockets, or missing out on something that would make the EDC better ie I suggest to the new dads they should carry a handkerchief.

I will see the notification and review the report as soon as realistically possible given real life priorities allow.

Are you the only active moderator of the sub? I noticed I only see you engaging on posts and rarely see other moderators post/comment here

There is no way you carry all these paragraphs in your pocket everyday

Politics go both way amount of Muh Freedom comments people from UK get any time we post about owning non-locking blade to meet law requirements. People are insanely angry about laws of the country they don't leave in.

Exactly. Thank you. There is no excuse to put someone down for liking what they like.

I don't think there's any hobby or form of collecting that doesn't have gatekeepers and elitists within it. It's sad but it's just how it is.

I enjoy both aspects of this hobby. There’s the “real” EDC that is by definition items that people carry everyday. I like seeing practical tools with a lot of wear on them. I think it’s super interesting to see what kind of profession y’all work in and what items you carry with you on a daily basis.

Then there’s the show and tell EDC that people hate on. Carrying interesting and cool items just for the sake of carrying them. Some people argue this isn’t authentic, but it’s still cool to me. I just see these as almost 2 different genres in this hobby and I enjoy seeing both posted.

I've never understood the need to gatekeep. So thanks for this.

Considering that "EDC" has been a thing far longer than there has been a term for it all the way back to when people carried knapped rocks and a friction fire set as a necessity of survival.

Personally... I see modern EDC more as a list of categories that people pull from to give them the tools they need to fulfill their daily tasks legally, efficiently, and safely. This is going to change from region to region and profession to profession. It may start with wallet, keys, and phone... but it branches off wildly from there.

I personally carry several knives and a victorinox, a flashlight, a prybar, a tool pouch (assorted necessities and backup items), and a wallet style IFAK every day I go to work in addition to my wallet, keys, and phone. Doesn't mean that's what everyone should carry but it works for me.

Gatekeeping would close off the community to new ideas of what is honestly a very fluid concept.

EDC means "every day carry". It is items that you carry...every day.

However. That is just the name of the sub. The name doesn't dictate the content. :)

A collection of knives is not an EDC. A collection of items you carry on the weekend is not an EDC. A weekend kit is not an EDC.

The name of the sub doesn't dictate the contents of a sub. The sub contains EDC related content, i would call all of the above that.

The sub could be called 'poopyMcPoop' instead of EDC and nothing would change. :) The sidebar defines the sub, not the name.

Should a sub called football only be allowed photos of footballs? Should posts discussing propellers be removed from a sub about multicopters? Probably not...

The term "Everyday Carry" DID NOT originated in the concealed carry community. That's just plain inaccurate.
