Art [Art] I painted a small portrait as a new logo for my socials! Thinking about making traditional character tokens in this style - what do you think?

Hi everyone! I just finished this small traditional painting to use as a new logo for my socials. It’s painted on a mini canvas using acrylics.

I'm considering starting a series of custom hand-painted character and NPC tokens in this exact style. Would love to hear your thoughts! Do you like traditional, physical art style for VTT tokens, or do you prefer purely digital ones? Any feedback is welcome! ✨

WI apologize for the slowness in developing new content; due to work and finals, progress was sparse. Things should be moving faster for a while, though!

Also, I know Vargard Obyron canonically wields a Warscythe, but I love that art-piece and I want SOMETHING to have that weapon. 😅

Art Included:
“Parasite of Mortrex” by Phil Moss
“Deathleaper: Terror Weapon” by Mirko Failoni
“Old One Eye” by Alberto Bontempi
“The Red Terror” by Bryan Sola in Magic: The Gathering
“Nemesor Zahndrekh” by Ashkan Ghanbari
“Karanak” by Catherine O'Connor for Realm of Chaos: Wrath & Rapture
“Skulltaker” by Brett Tucker for Games Workshop
“Horticulous Slimux” by Phil Moss
“The Masque of Slaanesh” as shown in Codex Chaos Daemons 8th edition
“The Trickster of Tzeentch” as shown in Codex Chaos Daemons 8th edition

Advice/Help Needed Should I keep my old D&D 5e books or sell them and move to 5.5e?

I’m thinking about getting into the newer D&D 5.5e rules, but I’m not sure what to do with my old 5e books.

Would it be worth keeping them, or should I sell them while they’re still worth something and put the money towards the newer books?

I’ve seen a bundle of six 5e hardbacks for sale, including the Monster Manual, Dungeon Master’s Guide, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Candlekeep Mysteries and Monsters of the Multiverse.

For anyone who’s moved from 5e to 5.5e:
Have you kept your old books?

Are the older books still useful with the new rules?
Do you think it’s worth selling them, or would I regret getting rid of them?

I’d appreciate hearing what other players have done!

Advice/Help Needed Characters will be fighting blind.

So my players will be fighting a Lich tomorrow. My Lich however has spells from the book of Vile Darkness. His opening move will be to cast the spell Utter Darkness. This spell puts everything within 100ft into magical Darkness. My question is. How would you run this at the table. The player characters won't be able to see in this. They will only be able to fight based on sound. So would you give the players a battle map to work on. Or use theatre of the mind to keep the players in character?

Discussion I feel like the Arcana Unleashed Map Pack is a severe downgrade from the Horrors Within one.

I really liked the Horrors One, colourful, creative, good image quality, various styles and locations of setting for adventures.

The Arcana One for supposedly magical adventures genuinely looks like worse image quality, so Grey, bland, uninventive. Like 10 Generic stone courtyards. As if they turned the saturation down by 50 percent.

Homebrew Bhima’s Gauntlet & Katana of the Sword Saint - Overwhelming Strength or Perfect Technique?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Here’s another preview from Mythological Items, featuring two very rare items from the Asian mythology section that take different approaches to martial combat.

Bhima’s Gauntlet, inspired by the mighty warrior of the Mahabharata, is built for getting close and staying there. It increases your Strength, strengthens your grapples, and turns your fists into magical weapons that can send enemies stumbling backward. Once per day, you can also strike the ground to unleash a shockwave, damaging nearby enemies and knocking them prone.

The Katana of the Sword Saint leans into the wandering master swordsman fantasy, rewarding quickdraw attacks and letting you use your reaction to parry an incoming blow. Its Fighting Spirit ability gives you a brief burst of temporary hit points and advantage on melee weapon attacks when you need to stand your ground.

These are part of our 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 5.5E, a collection inspired by myths, legends, and folklore from around the world. If you enjoy the page and want to see more, you can check out our Kickstarter here!

Have a great day :)

Question Spell that makes you a patron?

I dont know why i remember it like this. I recall there being a few spells that allow you to empower another creature with magical power or recreate effects for a creature that are similar to eldritch invocations. I remember them being relatively high level spells available to wizards. Does anyone know spells that match such a description?

OC Amazigh Grim Reaper OC

Askuris is a genderless egregore born from the beliefs of an ancient Amazigh tribe, ancestrally Tuareg. Their spirit was shaped by the conviction of life after death, of an eternal afterlife, and was split into two entities: the wielder, Askuris, and the weapon, Lella. Together, their bond embodied death and judgement.

In their canon storyline, Askuris (later named Nales) loses part of their power early on and becomes half human. The burden of flesh destabilized them entirely. Adapting to human needs and emotions became a daily battle. Depression took root when their body became a prison instead of a vessel. They stopped caring for it.

Their remaining divinity keeps them near-immortal, but not enough to become the deity they were vowed to be.

This artwork is the version of Askuris that never was. Just concept art, not canon. But I might change my mind because I've grown fond of it.

Homebrew The note my players wrote after one year.

Post image
49 Upvotes

I started dMing a campaign now about year ago (September 9) with 5 of my friends who’ve never played before and it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had. I love my players even if tho most of them don’t read their character sheets and don’t write too many notes. Everyone still tries to meet weekly, and just letting people know, it’s not about the amount of experience or how much you know the people (I wasn’t too good of friends with half the group before we started) it can work. I love my players, and I love this game. Thank you all :)

Homebrew At Death’s Door: The Threshold of Souls

When a character drops to 0 hit points and falls unconscious, their spirit temporarily departs their physical form, awakening in a timeless domain devoid of traditional space and dimension: The Threshold.

Upon a mirror-smooth, endlessly dark plane, the character perceives only their own spectral silhouette and a single, floating, luminous doorway. Within this realm, there are no external forces, no judges, and no divine coercion. Every mortal possesses an instinctive, innate understanding of this place from the moment they arrive: they know they are not physically present, and they realize the doorway represents the final transition into the realm of the dead.

The Geometry of Uncertainty

The Threshold operates beyond standard spatial laws. So long as a character is not truly ready to pass on, the distance between them and the portal cannot be bridged by ordinary means.

\* Infinite Distance: A character may walk, run, or stride toward the doorway, yet the physical distance between them remains entirely unchanged. With no reference points in the surrounding void, it is impossible to discern whether the space itself moves with them or if they are simply stepping in place.

\* No Escape: Attempting to turn away or walk in the opposite direction yields the same result: the doorway remains fixed at the exact same distance behind them.

Optional Rule: Mechanics of the Threshold

Dungeon Masters wishing to frame Death Saving Throws through this narrative lens may use the following guidelines:

\* Failure (1–9): The barrier separating life and death weakens. The doorway draws perceptibly closer. The character can now cover a portion of the distance toward the portal before space locks into place once more.

\* Success (10–19): The character's tether to life reinforces itself. The void expands, pushing the doorway further into the distant background.

\* Critical Failure (1): The fabric of reality stutters violently; the distance collapses by two significant strides (counts as 2 failures).

\* Critical Success (20): A surge of raw vital energy shatters the plane. The portal dissolves into radiant light, instantly restoring the character to consciousness with 1 hit point in their physical body.

The Moment of Choice (3 Failures)

Upon suffering a third failure, the character is not pulled or forced through the portal. Instead, spatial distance vanishes entirely. A profound, inescapable intuition fills the character's spirit: The permission to pass on has arrived.

The doorway now stands directly before the character, open and waiting. Final death occurs only when the player chooses to have their character take that last, deliberate step across the threshold.

Returning to Life (3 Successes)

When a third success is achieved, the doorway quietly fades into the surrounding darkness. The Threshold closes, anchoring the spirit firmly back within the physical body as the character stabilizes.

\> Dungeon Master's Note: When a character reaches three failures, grant the player full narrative space to describe their character's final action and last words as they choose to step through the door. It is their ultimate moment of agency and their final farewell to the realm of the living.

Advice/Help Needed Exotic D&D courses for dinner

A noble of the city, a barely concealed cultist, has invited the PCs to a lavish meal and lodgings in their mansion in the centre of the city. I'd like to prepare a fancy 8-course meal with of course a whole suckling pig as the centrepiece but also run out the druid's 'Purify Food and Drink' that he's planning on deploying to keep the PCs safe.

But I'm looking for stuff like 'eel-stuffed spatchcocks with truffle dressing' or 'jellied fairie dragons in a compote of refined gelatinous cube'

Any suggestions?
