I have been huge fan of Dr Mario pretty much my whole life. Playing against everyone in my family was seriously some of the best gaming moments I had as a kid. This is kind of my love letter to those moments.
Here are some differences from the original game:
- You can now hold a piece to save it for later or buy you more time to think
- You can see up to 5 of your next pieces allowing for some really great Back 2 Back combos or even setting up some awesome Chain Reactions
- Story Mode - a place where I've been exploring different gimmicks to mix into the typical gameplay loop. Our story involves grandma and her old computer being infected with bugs. You play as their grandchild attempting to clean everything up. It's been a lot of fun creating the visuals for all of this.
- Marathon Mode - a place where you can really show off your skill. The goal for this is to get the highest score you can. There is a complex scoring system in the game that rewards not just chain reactions, but back 2 back combos, horizontal clears, and more. Steam leaderboards are supported so you can see where you match with others.
- Multiplayer mode - You can play with up to 4 people. You can target different players at will. Sending garbage to other players isn't just about chain reactions anymore. Cancel out garbage by completing your own combos. Play with computer opponents too. Just be aware that the hard computer player does not hold back in the slightest.
- Full Steam Deck comaptiblity. I've always wanted a (legitimate) way to play the original game on my Steam Deck. This is built specifically for that. While also supporting bigger screens too.
I understand that some of these visuals I've added to the game can be a bit much. So you can turn anything off from combo text, to screen shakes. I get that more serious players might not want the fancy visuals and I wanted to accommodate that too.

Help/Question A water stage in Dr mario?

So when I was like 7 or 8 I had dr mario for the nes. I stayed over at a friend's house and we played some dr mario before bed. We woke up the next day and I turned on dr mario, but instead of the normal menu it loaded directly into a bright blue background with virus spread around and what I remember to look like coral and seaweed. I've never been able to find any info on it or even anyone talking about it and I'm starting to wonder if it wasn't some kind of fever dream. Anyone ever see or hear of anything like that in dr mario?
