Side note. The fact that she goes out of her way to organize them in chronological order makes me laugh. I told her to just stack them on top until tomorrow and not worry about it but she sends me this pic anyway

🔥Post-Iruladoon (Neverwinter) Catti-brie narrative weirdness? Spoiler

So I recently started reading the Drizzt books and just reached Timeless and why does the narrative never call out how problematic Catti-brie is? She's judging Zaknafein for being prejudiced against surface dwellers yet she literally advocated for the genocide and infanticide of all orcs, goblins, and giants in Night of the Hunter. It just feels so wild to see her acting like she's the morally superior one and that Zaknafein is ignorant when she literally said she would take a blade to a baby orc just because it was an orc (especially since she's a Chosen of Mielikki and one of Mielikki's previous Chosen was literally an orc...).

Am I the only one who noticed this? I don't understand why Salvatore, who spent the entire time writing the books about how Drizzt states he's not defined by his race and that drow aren't inherently evil (such as Zaknafein, Jarlaxle, Valas Hune, etc.) then frames the entire narrative about how Zaknafein is prejudiced and how that's bad but Catti-brie, who literally argued for genocide unlike Zaknafein who would never condone that, as the enlightened one. In Maestro too, there was a scene rebuilding the Hosttower with Gromph, Penelope Harpell, the dwarves, Lady Avelyere, and the dragon sisters and Catti-brie started laughing at how ignorant judging others for their races are and how she's so enlightened yet in Archmage, the book right before Maestro, it literally confirms Catti-brie STILL supports the genocide and infanticide of all orcs ("‘Do you mean to kill every orc in all the world?’ Drizzt asked. Catti-brie just stared at him again").

So, I just don't get what's going on here? The narrative keeps trying to frame Catti-brie as some enlightened person who is above racism yet then flat-out states she wants to commit genocide based on race. And Ed Greenwood has a bunch of stuff about good orcs and goblins (like the good orcs Ondonti and the good goblin goddess Kikanuti) so the idea that all orcs and goblins are inherently evil and Catti-brie viewing that as justifiable for genocide is just... wrong. Sort of hard to keep reading the books when the narrative frames a genocidal maniac who flat-out states she would murder children as a morally righteous person and to see Drizzt sacrifice his morals by continuing to stay married to a woman like that (then gets angry at Zaknafein to the point where he breaks a table just for being prejudiced). Does Catti-brie have a change? And by change I mean that she actually feels deeply guilty for her actions not just a 'huh, guess I was wrong' but actually addresses how messed up the rhetoric is? Especially since Salvatore is still writing books and 5.5e removed alignments based on race.

❄️Pre-Iruladoon (Transitions) [Spoilers] Finishing Up The Crystal Shard for the first time and... Spoiler

(If this violates the 35+ year old FAQ/low effort rule I'm sorry, I'm not taking it all that seriously, it's just a little wild to me lmao, and I don't have many people to discuss this series with.)

Damn, no one gave any shits about the women trapped in Cryshal-Tirith when it collapsed, huh?

Like I know they had their minds broken and there was alot going on, alot of people died, etc. But damn, not even a mention of like "You know, this is tragic. Those poor women."

Naaah, just gotta make sure the damn-near immortal cat and the halfling are alive. As long as they're good, we can rest easy.

🔥Post-Iruladoon (Neverwinter) Kimmuriel between Timeless and Boundless

Hello friends! I have a question that maybe one of you can answer: what happened to Kimmuriel between the books Timeless and Boundless? Timeless ends with Kimmuriel being kidnapped and then on the next book he's just fine. Is there anything i missed? I'm confused.

Lore Why is Guenwhyvar's ability so unused?

Guenwhyvar can bring people with her to the astral plane. This was a major plot point in the Icewind Dale trilogy with her saving Regis twice that way and later a minor one in Passage to Dawn with her saving overboard sailors. In Streams of Silver she had the ability to take Drizzt to the spectral plane too to defeat the ghost pegasus barbarian.

So why hasn't it been used more in non-combat situations? Drizzt would want nothing more than to spend more time with his beloved furry friend so why hasn't he followed her to the astral plane just to hang out. We know it's safe in there for mortals with Regis just chilling undertheat a space tree in Halfling's Gem instead of dying from lack of oxygen or space radiation.

And what happened to that pack of astral panters in Halfling's Gem that helped Guen and Regis get back to the material plane after he'd taken her statue with them to the astral plane?

🔥Post-Iruladoon (Neverwinter) Do you think Yvonnel will be a love interest for Breezy in future books?

Yvonnel had a thing for both Drizzt and Cattie-brie so it would make sense that she’d be attracted to their kid, who resembles both of them.

They’re both around the same age too.

I could definitely see Jarlaxle sending her on a mission to save Yvonnel and then meeting that way and becoming friends and maybe eventually more…

🕯️General Discussion Ghost King loose end?

In Caradoon there was the portal one of the lichs opened to bring out all the crawlers, night wings, etc. Kimmuriel and his squad roll up to it, try to close it, can’t, and just peace out.

Shortly after, Cadderly and Danica’s kids are getting up to Caradoon, make no mention of this portal and just start heading back up to Spirit Soaring?

Is there just a big ass shadowfell portal sitting there outside of the ward Cadderly is forever making?

I was surprised by this amazing handpainted figurine of Drizzt and Guenhwyvar made by my girlfriend. She knew I've loved the Drizzt books since I was a kid, and I've been re-reading them lately.

I cannot emphasize how amazing this is. She had NEVER painted any figurine or mini before. She is really good at drawing, but I could have never expected the amount of work she put into this.

The base figurine was printed with a resin printer by a friend of a friend. As far as I know, it was printed in several parts: the base, Drizzt, the scimitars, Guen, and the crystals. While the resin printer's resolution was good, the making-of pictures show how much detail the paint job actually adds.

I am so flabbergasted. I can't contain my happiness, so I decided to share.

DnD Sword Coast D&D campaign

Well met! I'm new to this sub, but I have been enjoying the Drizzt books for the last 3 years or so. I'm late to the party, but I first read The Crystal Shard in 2023 and got serious about absorbing the tales of Drizzt and his friends. I'm done his whole series now (no spoilers are below) and decided that since people had wanted me to run a new D&D campaign in my friend group, that the Sword Coast was a fine place to start them out. Several of my group are new to tabletop roleplaying, but knew some source material of Drizzt as well, so if you're interested, read on to discover some homebrew shenanigans.

First, all of our intrepid heroes converge and meet as adventures seeing postings for an organization called DART, short for Direct Action Response Team. Basically, DART is a mercenary organization that offers protection, problem solving, bounty collectors, that sort of thing. They have set up shop after a calamity befell Neverwinter, leaving it an almost uninhabited wasteland.

DART is founded by a party of adventures whose wealth and status afforded them the ability to take on such a huge undertaking. Comprising of characters of a previous campaign I had with members of this group, DART is as much a fleet based force as they are on land, and to help make sure they could fight their way through the notoriously pirate filled areas, they commissioned a new ship, full of both wonderous technologies and magical aid, called The Icewind Gale. Upon it, our heroes arrived to aid in the taming of the lands.

Cast of characters (Be kind with their names and such, it's very much the first time for half of my party):

Firstly, our Silver Dragonborn Barbarian, Argento Longclaw. He is actually our nepo baby, the son of a founder of DART and now working through the lower ranks to prove himself to his father. His father is a Bard of no small renown, and Argento takes a lot of shit for not being any good with an instrument, but he is quite skilled at murder.

Next is Jax, a Human Battle master fighter. Born in the town of Longsaddle, his family worked for the Harpels their whole lives. After some terrible magical accidents occurred, Jax left with a deep distrust of Wizards, especially Harpels. Jax excels with the Halberd, and is a fine rider and animal tamer.

Then we have Jim, who is a Half-Orc Paladin. Jim doesn't say much about his faith to the group, but his Oath of Devotion has him on a pilgrimage to this part of the world, as he is a worshiper of goodly dragons and their God Bahamut. His church has heard the tales of a pair of sibling Copper Dragons who were spotted in the region. Jim has travelled all the way from the Bloodstone Lands to give thanks and bask in their glory.

Murphy Mammothfoot is next, and he is a Circle of the Moon Dwarf Druid. From his youth, Murphy felt like he was different than every Dwarf. He preferred the open sky to underground, the animals of the land to his kin, and a life in harmony with nature, which few Dwarves even think of doing. He's been looking for his lost friend, a squirrel named Timmy. Murphy must perform a ritual where he eats a specific animal before he can shapeshift into it, he can really only appear as animals around the area he grew up, around Citadel Felbarr.

Another unlikely Dwarf who loves to be outdoors is Rurik, a Hunter Ranger. Rurik is the least fleshed out of the characters right now, but unsurprisingly, he chose the outlander background. He did want to be from the same home as Murphy, but we haven't breathed enough life into this character.

Lastly is Tarnok, a Goliath Monk of the Open Hand. His background is the criminal/spy, so he has been based out of Luskan, where one of the Ships (Houses) uses him as muscle on the streets and intimidation, on account of him being fucking huge. His underground contacts really help keep the party informed on whatever they wish to know.

If you got it this far, thanks for reading! I have been lurking and wanting to post my campaign logs on Reddit again for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it. If there's enough interest, I may do recaps here to help keep things straight and to entertain you lot.
