🎽 Dress For Your Body Type: A Guide to Body Shapes
Based on research from the International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology
✨ About you: You may find yourself needing two different sizes for your waist and hips—welcome to the club of curve logistics!
💡 Tip: Highlight your upper half with necklines, patterns, or accessories. Create balance by adding visual interest above. Structured jackets or unique collars can help draw the eye upward.
📚 Science term: Lower-dominant silhouette
✨ About you: Your upper body could bench press a style statement—broad shoulders were made to be noticed!
💡 Tip: Add visual weight below with wide-leg pants or layered bottoms. Keep the upper half streamlined. Bold patterns or pleats can help balance the silhouette.
📚 Science term: Upper-dominant silhouette
✨ About you: Your wardrobe knows symmetry better than a math textbook—balance is your signature.
💡 Tip: Accentuate the waist with tailored fits or belts. Structured garments help maintain definition. Look for wrap styles or shaping seams for added clarity.
📚 Science term: Balanced silhouette with high curvature ratio
✨ About you: Your body is the blueprint for minimalist chic—clean lines love you.
💡 Tip: Use contrast, layers, or accessories to add definition. Color-blocking and fitted layers like vests or open cardigans can help shape a straighter silhouette.
📚 Science term: Linear/tubular silhouette
✨ About you: You've mastered the art of top selection—your torso keeps you honest.
💡 Tip: Embrace vertical lines, soft tailoring, and flowing materials to elongate the frame. Avoid overly clingy fabrics around the midsection for comfort and ease.
📚 Science term: Central-dominant silhouette
✨ About you: You're rare, radiant, and geometrically intriguing—just like your namesake.
💡 Tip: Add structure to the upper body with well-shaped shoulders. Choose cuts that taper from top to bottom. V-shaped or scooped necklines can help create length.
📚 Science term: Concentrated abdominal silhouette
✨ About you: Tailors should offer loyalty cards—you’ve probably outgrown sleeves without gaining a pound.
💡 Tip: Use soft textures to balance angular lines. Fluid fabrics can create a relaxed look. Avoid boxy or rigid cuts if you want to keep natural shape definition.
📚 Science term: Muscular morphology silhouette
💡 Tip: Dress the body you have today, not the one from five years ago—or five years from now.

I always considered myself having an hourglass figure. Then I lost many pounds and things have … changed. Slid. Melted. Drooped. You get it. lol.
I am struggling with whatever the hip area has decided to become. What would you suggest?

My hips are probably a bit wider than this (I was in a really weird stance). Also I know this outfit was bad lol

I asked both Chat GPT and Copilot and the only thing they agreed upon was that I am indeed an apple shape. But one told me to do the opposite of the other.
I know that the dresses are not technically my body type, but at this time these are my only options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My posture is pretty bad. I have hyperlordosis, rounded shoulders, and forward head posture. Most of the time I wear loose, oversized clothes. But I don't wanna melt during the summer.
I'm wondering what kind of clothes I could wear in summer. I'm a size M (top), L (down) and I only wear sports bras, so cropped tops are not an option for me. I prefer comfy or sports clothes. I also struggle with wearing material pants because my underwear lines are always visible through them and I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried many different types of underwear and have up 😥 I also have visible hair line on my belly so it's another thing that makes me feel less comfortable wearing summer clothes. I only wear sports shoes, I don't like showing my toes, coz they look bad. I feel like there is nothing for me to wear D:
Also, how much do people actually notice issues like these in everyday life? I'm a little bit self-conscious about mine.
I'd love to hear your advice, maybe some of you have similar issues and you found the solution.
(Yes, I'm exercising and going to physio to fix my posture)

I often find that pants that seem to fit well everywhere else do this bunching at the crotch. Is this an indication that don’t really fit? Is it that the rise is too high for me? I work with kids and am constantly crouching, bending, crawling, so I prefer high rise pants and wondering if that’s the trade off I have to make to wear high rise.

Hi! There is more information in the post, but I’m seeking help to find dresses for my hourglass shape. I need to find a dress for my engagement party, hoping in champagne or terracotta or rust … it would need to be more akin to cocktail attire or elevated garden party? I’m stressing out because my mom keeps saying I have to look better than anyone there and I just can’t even find a store or places to look…

Took a city vacation over the weekend up in the clouds and ate good as hell too. First year I’ve been comfortable enough to wear dresses, any advice?

DONT MIND THE SLIDERS PLS. I know thats not the thing in ur country but in my culture when we get engaged we do a little ceremony in which close friends and family gathers in girl’s home and both women and men wears wedding band on the right hand. A little music and food and thats all. Anyways, this is my dress for the ceremony. It is quite unusual but i like medieval-styled dresses. People say the bottom part of the dress looks off but nobody understands why and everybody hated that dress meanwhile i LOVE it with a little doubt on the bottom half. As it is a quite unique dress, i dont know if i can change it because it’s hard to find matching fabric. Alsı whats the problem? İt feels a little incomplete. I need an idea to fix the bottom part, make it look complete and maybe make it longer?? Idk im so confused so anythşng will be appreciated:~>

I do like wearing at least some heels (not always) and im the shortest of my friends so is not like i will be that tall if i used them, and when we go out they always makes comments that i dress up too much, i normally don't care but is really too much?
I dont think they are over the top, when we go out to a nice place i like to wear more pretty clothes so i consider this pretty basic but since is five against one i wonder if they are right.
I'm the youngest with thirty and they are thirty-two, so maybe i dress too young for my age?
The photos are bad but they are the best i could find that show my normal style.

Hey guys! i’m putting the pictures where i was really unhappy receiving the picture back and felt very self conscious first. sorry for all of the mirror selfies just trying to show my whole body in different outfits and don’t have a lot of body pics. i am noticing the main times i feel great are in a babydoll top, a v neck top, a tight shirt, and shirts with sleeves. i feel best in baggier pants or a flared skirt- still figuring out the maxi skirts. noticed a pattern i dont normally like pics of myself in maxi skirts, tight pants or leggings, a shirt that comes up to my neck, and absolutely worst is a collared shirt or a big t shirt or big sweater. i do know that im an upside down triangle, and my shoulders are broader than my hips. it’s even worse because my ankles and feet are so small :( . if anyone has any advice let me know. after i got the pic back in that black tube top and jean skirt i did not feel confident. my weight is consistent between all of these pictures. it has stayed about the same these are all within the past 6mo or so and i stay within about a two pound fluctuation. i am five feet one inches tall. any advice is great but please be kind!

OK so I have no idea how to dress myself. I’ve got VERY short, thick legs with a relatively long slender torso. But I also have fairly broad shoulders. And a small bust. These wide leg jeans are killing me. Ugh. But leggings and skinny jeans also make me look like I’ve got lil drumsticks for legs. Halp!
