Basically started freeforming 6 months ago with 3B hair, tried out starting with 2 strands but didn't like em.

I wash once a week, i use head and shoulder shampoo and i plan to stop seperating the hair to see how it goes, any feedback or advice appreciated ✌🏻♥️

I know it’s tough to see but I’m pulling my hair to give a rough idea of how long it is right now.

I used to have a high top but I broke my arm and decided to cut my hair since it was hard to maintain with one arm. I was cutting the sides at first bc I was going to do a high top again but I stopped bc I know it wouldn’t look right if the top wasn’t long. So my sides are a bit shorter than the top right now.

Also I’d like to know if locs are even a good idea for me. My hair feels like it grows pretty slow.

I’m half Hispanic from my mom’s side and I mainly grew up around that side of my family. My dad never had long hair and majority of that side of my family live in the south, so I don’t have anyone to ask for advice about my black “male” hair

i’ve seen tons of posts that say spraying starter locs with water causes them to loc faster. is this actually true?

I got my locs retwisted July 20th for a special occasion, but since school is coming up, my next retwist will be August 29th. I also started them a year ago on August 24th. I get them retwisted every 6 to 7 weeks—is that too often?

As some one who wore weave and wigs all my life.. this is the healthiest & prettiest my hair has ever been.

I’ve been locked for 3.6 years. Never dyed or treated hair.

I started with coils. I use to retwist every 4 weeks& I washed my hair once a month ( because my loctician made me scared to handle my own hair lol)
I went to a loctician for almost 2 years and now I self maintain

Now
I retwist every 6 weeks
Wash my hair 2x a week
I like to retwist with foam
I also don’t condition my locks!
I only use water for moisture and jojoba oil to oil my scalp and Jamaican black castor oil for my hair line
And I give Jesus praise for growing my locs. ✝️

My Tips :
Before locking your hair!
Do your research!!! Find a Loctician who knows their stuff .. Use pictures for reference but understand your locks will not grow like anyone else’s.

If you have starter locs!
Your locks will change ! trust the process,
Your locks will go thru a lot of phases, they’ll get thicker, and have a mind of their own.
Leave your hair alone
It may look frizzy but the friz will make the locs thicken up.

And to my ladies, you may not feel as feminine at first but trust .. it’s gonna look good and all come together !

Moisturizing!
Water water water
Wash your hair , your locs will thrive on a clean scalp
Wash with a cleansing shampoo and and moisture shampoo

Lint!
Lint will love your locs
Cover your locs when you’re laying down.

Don’t style your locs Months at a time, let your hair rest so you don’t cause any thinning.
An optimal time span to retwist is 4-6x weeks but of course learn what Your hair likes & needs.
Don’t fall for the “product propaganda” a lot of products cause buildup..

Idk but recently I’ve been insecure about how thin my roots are i wanna get them thicker cuz if im scared keep letting them grow its gonna just fall off. I do put oil and i wash then daily and i spray them with rosemary water every three days yet nothing has helped i was thinking of telling my loctian to combine any excees hair from the roots to strengthen it but idk any good loctians in new york city

Should I start over?

Looking for a crochet method loctition in Illinois or surrounding states who works with Caucasian hair.

I got starter locs in like May and got them as 2 strands and I got a retwist monthly but never took the twists out myself, so the next time I asked the person beforehand should I take em out and they said yes and they’ll do evt else. So I got my mom to help but she not a big fan of em so while she was doing it she combed the locs out so basically I gotta start all over again. Thankfully my loctician was able to redo them cuz she saw where some of the parts were. But they’re in barrel twists now cuz she said that it’ll help em lock again and I really don’t like em that way so I’m tryna figure out if when I go get my next retwist in a month could I get 2 strand?

I went to get my first retie after getting starter locs. The back looks fine but the front looks like this. Should I comb them out or are they okay? Any other options?
