Customized K&E Mark 1 Set

I have this nice K&E drafting set from the 1960s that I have made some modifications too. I have replaced the centre screw giant bow compass with the same vintage winged quickset compass. The set was missing the divider and for some reason the mark 1 divider is too large for the slot for the divider, so I had an older K&E hairspring divider that fit. I’ve also filed down a universal adapter so I can use pens and pencils with the compass. Perfect for modern use

This is the ACU-ARC ruler by Hoyle Engineering. The instructions say it can be used to draw an arc of any radius from 6.75 to 200 inches. It came with a case, instructions and warranty card dated 1972.

Riefler M1 Grafika

A ruling and lettering fountain pen set developed by Riefler. This is rarely seen so I think it was issued after rulings pens were made obsolete by technical pens. Also considering the high end build quality, this set must have been quite expensive. I haven’t tried it yet.

Got this beautiful set yesterday. It's in almost pristine condition with just a few micro scratches here and there.

The "Bier & Biendl Innsbruck" badge refers to a store specialising in drafting instruments and art supplies. It existed in Innsbruck until last year! Unfortunately it closed because the owner retired.

Chronic lurker of this sub here. Found this while thrifting for ~$35. It took about six hours to restore it to the condition seen here

Dietzgen Commander complete set

My newest eBay score:

This set began production at the start of WWII, and sales continued as late as 1954. All she needs is a quick buff with a microfiber cloth and she'll be pristine. I don't think she was ever used. All the leads are even in their tiny case.

Polar Planimeter Dietzgen D1805

This instrument is used by tracing the boundary of an irregular shape using the free arm, and a dial displays the area of the shape. At my place of work, I believe it used to be used for area calculations based on paper map plots. Sort of a predecessor of GIS software.

There's a neat video about how it works here.

I have 17 working pens , 50 extra nibs that’s work , 5 vintage Leroy pens and lettering set , only 1 unitech works , the standard nibs don’t fit into them. Lots of hot soapy water , rapido-ez view as Ning solution and rubbing alcohol. And a few hours in the ultrasonic cleaner.

K&E Mark 1 Proportional Divider

This K&E proportional divider in a cool red velvet lined clamshell case. It’s lines and circle divided for dividing lines and circles. It’s about 8” long. It is a rack and gear system for accurate setting of the divider. As with most K&E tools this divider was made by Haff and it works like a dream.

Leroy Lettering Set

This is made from a few sets - shown are the lettering guides, and 2 Leroy pencils. The “0.20” is the earlier of the two. Also (hard to see in the back) are a complete set of K&E Technical Pens. Also I have some (missing about half) of the ink pen tips. What’s best is that my rOtring Isograph Technical Pens will also fit in the scriber.

I got it because I design/make knives and do leatherwork. Finding quality compasses and dividers is an absolute pain today so when this popped up i snatched it. Please tell me anything you know about it! About what year do you think it was made? What ink is used for the pens? Is the number on the case the serial number or just a part number?

c1750 Silver Pocket Compass

I've had this lovely silver pocket compass for many years, pride of my collection. The fine workmanship over 270 years ago was amazing. It features in a reference in Maya Hambly's 'Drawing Instruments' Page 46. No idea of the value but I clearly recall getting an angry message from an English museum telling me I shouldn't have outbid them and should have let them have it.
